If former employees of Tracked Hovercraft Limited - THL - Plus the Railworld Volunteers had not raised sufficient money (about £10,000) - to save the RTV 31 from the scrapper - It would have all gone!!! ... Unceremoniously cut up! One day we will be able to tell the full story - But sadly at present Railworld has insufficient resources - And is still run by dedicated volunteers - Please see www.railworld.org.uk.

i think from what i was told the rtv31 was to be aircushion with air intakes such that the cushion is harder at speed..maybe the track wouldnt actually be more expensive than high speed rail..shunting and changing track might be tricky

    Good post.
I find it hilarious that they keep saying “friction free” in these type of things. The rolling resistance of a railway is trivial. It’s the skin friction along the vehicles at high speed that is the major problem.
Chinese designers have just unveiled their own 600kph maglev and last year a plan for a network of maglev lines across China was published.

@@rogerc7960 @Roger C Transrapid in Germany isn't a thing anymore, I think. It also wasn't in commercial operation.

So why is Der Elon Musk getting the kudos for a similar idea as if it was only him that thought of it?

The initial propulsion was more similar to the idea of Rober Goddard from nearly 100 years ago, but the Hyperloop has switched to a maglev principle. Elon Musk is basically is lying and gets away with it because of who he is.
