  • www.mormonchannel.org/video/mo... - Sometimes in life, there is nowhere else to turn but to God. Elder D. Todd Christofferson shares a personal experience that taught him to truly pray, recognize answers to prayers, and take life one day at a time. (Part 2 of 3)
(Voice of Elder D. Todd Christofferson) To a large extent, I believe our faith in God is a consequence, or fruit, of experience. Quite a few years ago I made a financial investment in a small business and it began to require more to stay afloat. Yet, it still didn't do well and then more was required, and it became a terrible economic threat. I remember having to go before the Lord with nowhere else to turn, and in tears and pleading to seek for to seek for anything that He would provide in His love and wisdom. What I learned in that process was what it's like to come to a point in your life where you really have nowhere to turn but to God. And in those circumstances one truly learns how to pray and how to receive the answers that come. Sometimes it was nothing more than a feeling that things would work out somehow; no indication of how or when but it would be alright. Sometimes it was an idea that would make a difference. And so it became during portions of this experience, a matter of getting the manna for that day; the help that could only come from Him, from God, for the moment, not the long-term, just the immediate need. I think what we have to do when the pressures are there and the clouds are dark and threatening, is take life one day at a time. It helps at times not to think too far ahead and just do what the day requires; ""Give us this day our daily bread."" We're not anticipating the hardship or suffering that might be entailed, we sometimes just have to break it down to this moment, this day, and while deliverance isn't immediate and you may not see the end, still you've got enough for today. When this began happening in my life my prayer was ""Give me a miracle,"" you know, ""Solve this problem,"" and it took a while to finally come to the point of saying, ""I'm content to get a daily help, and let it take what time it takes,"" knowing that I can rely upon God. It's been a blessing to me ever since to have had that rather harrowing experience because of what it meant for my relationship with Him. Maybe the greater blessing for us is to have to walk through it with Him.

I was lucky enough to film this piece for the church. Reading the commentary from Elder Christopherson, thinking about what shots to match his dialogue, being led to Dave who is not an actor but a willing neighbor to portray the young apostle, it all strengthened my testimony that God does hear my prayers and yours. He knows us, he knows our worries, our pains. He is a perfect being, which makes Him by definition, a perfect Father. Grateful for these messages that remind us of these truths.

Collin Kartchner Please make more like this. Let's get back to this and away from shiny hashtag campaigns. This is the real meat and true, applicable sustenance of the gospel. Thank you.

This is one of those foundational messages/films that I heard/watched almost 5 years ago and has since changed my daily striving to receive inspiration. Elder Christofferson’s message and experience, and your recounting of it, have change my life in more ways that you know. Thank you.

Suddenly, the term "give us this day our daily bread" takes on a new level of personal meaning. This might be my all time favorite mormon message.

“...maybe the greater blessing for us is to have to walk through it with Him.”
That line right there is realized when we’ve spiritually matured through our difficult experiences and our faith strengthened.
Thank-you Elder Christofferson for sharing your inspirational message. 🙏🏼❤️

Asking for just your daily bread makes it more realistic to grow you faith in the Lord as a mustard seed evolves.

So true - and even when at times I haven’t had the strength to go to him in prayer- there’s no doubt that he’s been there by my side. I love my Savior and my Heavenly Father. They are always nearby, like a diligent and loving parent always nearby as their baby learns to crawl, walk, run, ride their bike, and live life. This video never gets old. ❤️

I love this video! My favorite part is the end where Elder Christofferson mentions that one of the blessings that comes from trials is the fact that we have to walk through it with the Savior. I know that wading through affliction can bring us closer to Heavenly Father and the Savior, and therefore become more like them.

I was becoming very sick with Asthma and sinus problems, then stomach pains.
Finally after Many different stays in the I .C.U.
Or special rooms for pneumonia patients, well I have died from many things that happened in September "96
I was praying for help in my head because I realized I was going to be unable to speak with mouth and I just might die again.
One hour, one day at a time, I had blessings, and prayers from many people from different churches and neighbors and people in different states.Im in a coma and heard many things that broke my heart to know that my husband had given me Up!
Unplug her, she is not there!
I was screaming I'm really alive Don't Kill Me!
