I wanna say just a bunch of irish stereotypes and hoping they turned out funny. the accents/dogs/potatos/music. should have thrown a dance routine in there as well. the main crux was probably so she can speech in her normal voice since she was using an american accent for most of the skits but they probably could have done something different. was a miss. oh well.

Mau DelCielo Geez what is with American humour? The only thing funny about this was Aer Lingus' comeback tweet! Just chaotic and highly stupid. Saoirse is better than to stoop to this to please SNL.
I think one of the writers thought “how can I put a ton of dogs in one sketch?” and another thought “I really want to make a great sequel to our Colonel Angus sketch.” and they made both sketches threw ‘em together for time’s sake.
It looks like a play on Irish stereotypes but it isn't. It is nuts and bolts comedy that shouldn't be looked into deeper. The cunnilingus joke at the top was hilarious, it had nothing to do with Irish stereotypes. It was funny because you could see the punchline coming from a mile away and you're waiting for the one on the left to blurt out "cunnilingus." SNL has a very academic approach to comedy and expects a lot of the audience. SNL is asking the audience to suspend disbelief and view everything through the lens of pretend Irish stereotypes. When you're properly suspending disbelief the bad accent of the pilot becomes 10 times funnier than if the accent was good, you're following along with the routine and the performance is what makes it funny.

I like this, the Scottish air traffic controller sketch with James McAvoy, and the British soccer commentator sketch with Idris Elba where international actors who often play Americans get to crank up their natural accents to 11.
I totally remember Aer Lingus like this. I had to put my baby brother under my seat. and all the dogs ran around and I kept one.
The IRA needs to look into SNL
YES
Agreed
Up the ra
OMG LMFAO LOL JK
If this is what Americans think Irish people are like, they'll be shook if they ever come to Ireland 😂😂😂
Simply Ciara xoxo actually we don't, just unfunny liberals do
Simply Ciara xoxo ha funny story. Had a huge family reunion about 5 years ago.. a lot americans came over and yes they seemed genuinely shocked. I honestly think they were expecting diddly eye jigs and 'bejaysus an begorrah' ha what they got was inner city dubliners on a trip to the bog for the weekend. Well you can imagine the faces on some of them when the alcohol started flowing. I think a few were genuinely scared.
penelope pittstop 😂😂
I can’t speak to Cecily’s accent (hers sounded genuine to me, but I am far from Irish), but I definitely don’t think Irish people sound like Kate, Aidy, Alex, or Kyle. Those were sad.
And given that Saoirse really is Irish, well. I don’t think I’d be THAT shocked.
One of my brothers went to Ireland with a cousin, and some girls made a gesture he didn't recognize. Later he learned it meant that she wanted him to come into her three times or something like that.
Soooo... what was supposed to be funny here? I mean, they were just kinda flinging everything at the wall hoping for something to stick... and it didn’t. What was the main thread of the joke? The name joke that’s abandoned 10 seconds in? The dogs getting loose? The accents? The 5 seconds potato gag? I mean, what was this supposed to even be about?
I wanna say just a bunch of irish stereotypes and hoping they turned out funny. the accents/dogs/potatos/music. should have thrown a dance routine in there as well. the main crux was probably so she can speech in her normal voice since she was using an american accent for most of the skits but they probably could have done something different. was a miss. oh well.
Yea terribly written sketch
The bit about toddlers in the overhead bin was funny.
I agree, this episode was shit. especially this sketch.
Maybe this..... www.irishtimes.com/opinion/newton-emerson-curious-tale-of-the-brexit-dog-that-didn-t-bark-1.3252316
My biggest problem with this is the size of the freaking plane! Clearly never been on an aer lingus flight
Not just the plane, these SEATS are gigantic like couches. They're actually like half the size with arm rests that don't go up all the way. It makes it impossible to sleep on a row of empty seats.
I wish planes were like this
Always tight with them
Lads I am Irish and I have no Idea what part of the Irish life they're mocking ¿?!
Shane Fagan same
The one girl is Irish lol
Shane Fagan I thought Ireland had a horse problem, not dogs.
Weird stereotypes as perceived by Americans. I mean, it is an American programme.
If I had to guess? your women are gossips, you all love dogs, you're fond of poetry, potatoes and someone you know knows how to play that one irish song on the fiddle.
This whole show felt like a “Damn, I guess we’re back after a week off. What? The host is Irish? I guess we’ll do some stuff with that then.”
No one is as good at making fun of Ireland as Ireland is. Father Ted did it best. And this is weak af
True that
Exactly, Father Ted did it wonderfully and with some class, this shit is just cringeworthy nonsense. Seriously what the fuck is the dog thing about?.
Father Ted is a classic sitcom. This is sh1te
Just write out "as fuck."
Cunard line was once in talks with Aer Lingus to provide Air Travel/ Cruise packages. The joint venture was to be branded "Cuna-Lingus".
tagline - y'can't lick us
I'm Irish and I didn't find this funny, not because it was racist though, just because it was shite.
Crimhthan Mor one funny thing to come out of it was the amount of Americans in the comments thinking we're offended by it
Yup...pure shite.
Irish is not a race. Its a culture and nationality. I'm Irish and my race is white.
Same as Mexican or Canadian is not a race there countries Damnit!
Irish-American here, and I agree wholeheartedly. Just stupid.
I just loved the dogs in the sketch. Honestly, anything is excused for dogs😍
I've been at funerals funnier than this
Kevin Spacey Jam Irish funerals are great craic
Sa rah nothing better than getting the whole family together for a good funeral
They actually can be oddly funny in fairness
Super Man If you're suffering with depression, and need to seriously rethink your sense of humour.
I'll bet Trump's would be.
I love that dogs always make Cecily break 😂
The state of them accents sham😂
Dylann Prendergast the I'm effended
Ya do realize that Saoirse is Irish right?
Yeah and her accent is so fucked in this video it's insulting. My guess is she was told to "Irish it up" by an american director that doesn't know what a real one sounds like...diddle de dee potato
no, there are plenty of Irish people who sound like this, your suffering from "i feel like i know better, so every time someone does an accent its bad" syndrome.
Yann Pilgrim I doubt your Irish now with a name like that. I think I’d know , I from Ireland so stfu😂👍
Even the people on the flight are bored
So would you be .. they have their holidays booked and the hotels close @11pm.
Aer Lingus does have the worst customer service. I had a horrible experience.
I am Irish and what's up with the dogs you're not allowed dogs on aer lingus and the accents are terrible oh well
Georgina if ye think the accents are bad then you mustn't live in dublin
Georgina its about a news story abojt a cancelled flight due to a dog
Georgina we americans dont understand this episode either!
Mau DelCielo
Geez what is with American humour? The only thing funny about this was Aer Lingus' comeback tweet! Just chaotic and highly stupid. Saoirse is better than to stoop to this to please SNL.
Saoirse , i may have butchered her name , but shes irish too. Shes not pretending lol thats how she really talks
Cecily Strong has the best acting Irish accent. It's even better like mine.
I'm Irish and this and this taking the piss
Love it😂😂😂😂😂
“Oh look, Maeve’s got her fiddle out”
As an Irish person let me just say that this was absolute rubbish 👎
_Magenta Arrow_ Agreed.
Saoirse ronannnnnnn
There should have been a crew member called Aoife - Really.
@@Ottawa3453 yessssss
Sure is
I think one of the writers thought “how can I put a ton of dogs in one sketch?” and another thought “I really want to make a great sequel to our Colonel Angus sketch.” and they made both sketches threw ‘em together for time’s sake.
This would obviously never happen in Ireland but also actually it kind of could happen in Ireland
Ok we need a captan to explain the DOG thing and why its funny
My uncle is a pilot, and on behalf of the entire family... we got nothing.
It’s his story not ours
I believe its about a flight that was cancell because of a dog
I didn’t see many redheads in Ireland. Meanwhile, every other person in Scotland had some shade of red hair.
"Now that you've met the captain and his shillelagh"
Cecily just has to look at a dog & she laughs!
"I knew it was him by his soul"
Funniest part was Kyle Mooney's Scottish accent.
Stephen this is irish not Scottish?
Crazy Bros Cael yes but he was using a Scottish accent
Don’t worry Aer Lingus isn’t that bad.
The children go into the overhead aswell
Feckin tools
I"m Irish and this is 100 percent true. All of it. I thought this was a real life documentary at first.
I’m Irish and I usually laugh at Irish stereotype videos but this just didn’t make any fuckin sense
Maybe it's not supposed to?
Snl ........ has it's moments.
This was lame af
Cú Chulainn yeah
Just really the potato one.
It looks like a play on Irish stereotypes but it isn't. It is nuts and bolts comedy that shouldn't be looked into deeper. The cunnilingus joke at the top was hilarious, it had nothing to do with Irish stereotypes. It was funny because you could see the punchline coming from a mile away and you're waiting for the one on the left to blurt out "cunnilingus."
SNL has a very academic approach to comedy and expects a lot of the audience. SNL is asking the audience to suspend disbelief and view everything through the lens of pretend Irish stereotypes. When you're properly suspending disbelief the bad accent of the pilot becomes 10 times funnier than if the accent was good, you're following along with the routine and the performance is what makes it funny.
