This is easily one of the most beautiful scores written for any movie, yet it has been unaccountably neglected and nearly forgotten over the years. The movie itself was a great success in it's day and it is still highly regarded by today's critics for it's top class production values, wonderful cast and the fact that filming took place in London locations many of which no longer exist. Maybe some day this wonderful music will get the recognition it so richly deserves.
I totally agree with that... i was born in 1995 and it was my first "horror" movie at 7 yo... I was not really understanding english in that time (i am japanese) but i remember i had watched it as any other tv show kids... another kid "level" i would say "(^ . ^)"

This is one of the most beautiful and evocative scores from any movie composed by the late Michael Lewis. A wonderful theme for a wonderful movie which utilised the talents of many great British actors, and for some it was a last hurrah. For Jack Hawkins and Denis Price this was their swansong and what a movie to end their careers with. And for Ian Hendry who played Devlin it proved to be his last role of any consequence as he sank further into alcoholism and died penniless. But his life was filled with tragedy as his wife Janet Monro who starred with Sean Connery in Darby O Gill and the Little People, died a few years earlier when she choked while drinking a cup of tea. Such is life and sometimes tragedy begets great art and this movie comes pretty close to that. Gracias por tu informacion, amo esta pelicula y su musica, un cine que ya no volvera, nunca mas se haran peliculas asi, Vincet Price & Michael Lewis genios! tank you zardoz80!
epic score, great direction by Douglas Hickox, Vincent Price and Dianna Rigg!!!! This is one of the best films ever, I think it even beats Dr Phibes and thats saying something!
I first watched this movie as a scary night popcorn feast in the 70s with my mom n sister! My mom loved Vincent Price movies. I was 12 and I was always haunted by the music in the best possible way. I stalked the TV channels in hopes of catching the movie on just to hear the music! I of course LOVED the movie and growing up was a huge fan the Vincent Price! I own this move on VHS and digitally thanks to technology I can see it anytime and I never get tired of watching it. It is my cozy on a raining day with a bowl of popcorn go to movie. I am reminded of my mom, an awesome group of actors and actresses, and that music score...and the scenes in London....Priceless!!!
+T Star Just like to add that I just listened to the music, with my little daughter - she loved it too - it is achingly beautiful! I look forward to sharing the film with her, when she is older. Vincent Price is my all time, favorite actor.
One of the finest British Horror films ever made. So many famous faces here in this movie and its also one of Vincent prices finest roles/performances too. First saw this as part of the ATV season of friday night Vincent price movies during the 70's called 'The Price of Fear'. Loved it ever since. thanks for uploading. ATVmidlands
@zardoz80 The Phibes films, particularly the first one are classics but Theatre of Blood should be placed high on a pedestal for its incredible mix of pathos, gore and black comedy. Quite simply one of the greatest and an immense performance from Vincent.
I love this track I could listen to it all day long. The movie too is one of my favourites. You can't beat the old horrors that were a bit tongue in cheek.
Great opening classical theme so enchanting and beautiful great movie too Vincent Price is most frightening role was as Matthew Hopkins in conqueror worm AKA which finder general with a great revenge inflicted on him at the end you should definitely see this movie
What a beautiful piece of scoring for what was essentially a B movie, but oh, what a movie. The magic for me was the use of stunningly beautiful incidental music to accompany scenes of horrific content such as Arthur Lowes beheading, where the music was particularly sweet Vincent Price and the thoroughly British cast, who for the most part, are sadly not with us now, make this film special. Will never forget the first time I caught this one friday night at about 11.30pm. MAGIC
Words can't describe the beauty of this timeless composition n thank u so much for the upload n all the wonderful experiences related to this masterpiece
I remember seeing this wonderful movie and heaving the great soundtrack, back in the summer of 1977, at the Admiral Twin Drive Inn, in Tulsa, Oklahoma with Christy Beck and her mother Beverly...........fond memories.
I've seen this movie many times and there is no doubt it's a genuine classic, there is something strangely hypnotic about the combination of great actors, top class production values and a sad beautiful theme. Milo O Shea who played the eyed policeman died just last week at 86, his silent partner Erik Sykes died a few months ago at nearly 90, while for Ian Hendry who played Devlin, the critic who survived, this was his last hurrah......he died some years later forgotten and broke in his mid 50s.
One of the best horror movies ever. God bless Vincent Price, though he scared the crap out of me in The Fall of the House of Usher. May you rest in peace, thank you for the memories :)
saw this movie in a drive in when it came out---brilliant black comedy!! Vincent Price was once a Shakespearean actor, and I recall later in his life when he was interviewed and asked what his favorite movie was that he acted in, and he said this one...........it got me interested in Shakespeare----and there are a lot of murders in Shakepeare's plays.......Great music!
True I think this a horor comedy that despite its dark hilarious comedy and goofy monets of side splitting laughs manages to cry at the sadness of a broken man who just liked theathre and wanted a award
I just try to write a tale called " Der Giftzwerg" (the poison gnome) and this wonderful music and Vinnie help me with it. Theatre of Blood is my absolutely favourite. No one and nothing can reach it ever. Some People say my daughter and myself are mad to adore a death but I think that`s what he wished, to be remembered years and decades after him. RIP Vinnie! And the tears ran down my cheak.
Love this music. Watched my dvd copy last night and had to keep repeating the opening to listen to the music again and again-the Arthur Lowe beheading scene has some really funny music a la 'Dr Kildare brilliant surgeon suffering etc' and Price and Riggs acting in that scene is so funny.

Countess Bathory Yikes!
epic score, great direction by Douglas Hickox, Vincent Price and Dianna Rigg!!!! This is one of the best films ever, I think it even beats Dr Phibes and thats saying something!
i say both are good in their own style. Phibes is more art deco whereas Theatre is a faded and dilapidated edwardian-modern theme.
