This was the first movie soundtrack I felt the need to hear again, i.e. to have a recording of. I first saw this movie in the 1980s on a small b&w TV set (my parents weren't big fans of TV at the time, so we didn't have a video recorder). I loved the movie, but I loved the music even more. Some years later, when I had my own TV set but still no video recorder, the movie was scheduled to air again. Within a few hours I improvised an interface between the TV set and my cassette recorder, and I managed to record the intro, the outro, and Cymbeline (the other tracks had too much talking and sound effects over them). I kept this mono and not really high quality recording until I finally found the music on the internet many, many years later.
I first heard this awesome theme on an album entitled GREAT SCIENCE FICTION FILM MUSIC back in the late 1980's and had to see this movie and Wow! What an amazing movie and soundtrack! Dame Diana Rigg and the great Vincent Price at any price and what a fantastic deal it all is! It's like the very best of Hammer and Amicus in one film! Music to my ears.
0:01 ~ I am crying of joy... I was looking for that music all my life, it was the generic end. I was 6-7 yo when I watched this movie and now I have 27 yo... I was sure it was a "Theater Of (something) .. death (in my mind) but... "(^ . ^)" ありがとうございます
What an awesome music. You don't pay attention to the music on the background while watching the movie, but sometimes the music by itself can be a masterpiece on its own.
Love this score, it has to be Michael J Lewis's finest moment, track 6. Cymbeline (starting at) 14:05 is an incredible sweeping theme played at the most gruesome scene.
I saw Theater of Blood for the first time yesterday on Talking Pictures TV (UK). Michael J. Lewis has produced such an amazing and at times very beautiful score. With Vincent Price at his campest and so many other great stars what more could be asked!
Brilliant film. Watched it for the first time in years on DVD earlier this evening. The soundtrack is sublime and I'm very sure everyone involved enjoyed making the film, in particular Price and Rigg. Wonderful. It's such a shame Classic FM ignore Michael J Lewis work, you never hear any of his scores on there - just constantly replayed over rated John Williams, Harry Potter scores, LOTR, the same John Barry pieces etc.

Only just discovered the work of Welshman MJ Lewis. Impressed! For me, it sits somewhere between the work of Paul Ferris & Ennio Morricone. Almost the "bastard child" of those two...in a positive way, that is. Full marks Michael.
Just listen to Michel Legrand’s theme for Picasso Summer 4 years earlier, the main theme of Theater of Blood is basically a variation of that theme: ua-cam.com/video/_8pTP_x99zU/v-deo.html
Theatre of blood was one of those movies that not only made people laugh but also made you think about the corruption of theathre or performing arts in general while delvin is suppose to be the main charather he's really obnoxious and self asorbed and is the reason Edward lionheart jumped off the balcony plus Vincent prices speach the blood sweat and tears of a actor was sad and showed its just movie actors who get shitted on critics will always try to ruin good decent actors because of jealousy
True and how we save assholes but attack poor actors who were just doing what they liked even when the part where Edward feel into the waterway with the homeless was heartbreaking it showed how the most looked down on poeple were the most nicest true they killed edwina but I think she was kinda gone at that point but my god the face on price when she died was heartwrenching
Thanks for the upload. The movie is of course, fantastic peak Vincent, but I have a new appreciation listening to the soundtrack by itself. I also wonder if when Michael Lewis scored this he knew the "love song" of it was going to be used in the most darkly hilarious scenes. I do have a question, anyone know where the cue is for when Vincent is reciting the Macbeth To Be before taking a dive after the awards? My ears can't seem to pick it out I write and have been looking for something for a kind of haunted mansion/slow burn investigative vibe...maybe somethings there, maybe nothing. Everybody else sounds like Danny Elfman doing scary circus music, but this is great for just menacing atmosphere
Love this soundtrack, just wondering if you could upload the files separately somewhere? If not, no worries but would love to download the full songlist!
Quartet Records have just released the Theatre of Blood score, remastered, on CD and Vinyl. Waiting for mine to arrive.

Beautiful score haunting and sad melody
This score is BRILLIANT! (And so was the film and Mr. Price's performances in it.)
Vincent Price was BRILLIANT in everything he did. Not just films or TV, but his Art Historian work and Cordon Bleu.
This film might actually be a 10/10 to me. God I love it so much.

Perhaps Lewis' masterpiece, that lifted a fine british horror film to iconic status.
Absolutely. The icing on a brilliant cake.

A truly exquisite score to compliment one of Price's very best films! Such a joy to listen to!
Great film and great theme score. Love it.

Thank you for a beautiful upload, to one of the UK's greatest films.
a wonderful film and music score. price was fabulous.
Is it me or does it feel like a third entry to the Dr phibes series
51:04 end credits score
My god the intro has such an emotive tone. Like an exhausted old man looking back on his past with longing.
C'est moi..😅

I have a massive amount of appreciation for Talking Pictures for keeping these classics alive so future generations can find and experience them.

I mean I'm with you with John Williams but Barry was a genius and seems treasonous to mention the 2 of them in the same breath.
@@ziggystardust1798 Same here - Williams is good but to me John Barry is unique and I prefer his film music over Williams.
absolutely beautiful score & compliments the movie wonderfully.
So elegant and romantic just beautiful !
Quite a juxtaposition with all the bloody murder that happens this movie.
The opening and closing themes are very haunting and beautiful. Wish I had this on mp3 good quality.
Great cast I bet everyone had fun on the set!

love the movie and the music :).
1 des meilleur film de sir mister price
il en fait d'autres mais ils ne sont pas tres connus .. c'est un acteur talentueux pourtant
Would love to see a vinyl copy of this. Maybe one day...

Exactly. This film is not only a great horror film, but a look at the dichotomy between critics and performers and how their words affect them.

Track number 7, the "To Be or Not to Be" section. Click the Show More section under the uploader's logo.
The part you seek starts at about 20:30
I don’t mean to sound like that guy, but the “To Be or Not To Be” soliloquy is from Hamlet, not “The Scottish Play.”
