FUN FACT ALERT The reason the Brothers regen in their fights is because they're standing on the ground (and they're 'Earth' elemental). If you cast Float on them the regen stops. Wouldn't have helped given your challenge run conditions, but it's a pretty fun and obscure mechanic that flew right over my head playing this back in the day.
I remember only learning about this a year or so ago, even though I played this game as a kid when it first came out. I remember the schoolgirls running out of the cave yelling, "F-Float!!" but I thought I had to cast Float on my party 🤦♂
I think people think of it as the 'love final fantasy' because it's like the first one that's like, SO INCREDIBLY OBVIOUS. Like FF7 had Cloud with Tifa and sorta Aerith but it's not nearly as front and center as it is with FF8. The romance in games got more and more integral to the FF series after 8, like with 9 and 10.
I mean, the romance is very Shakespearean- their parents failing into complacency, only for the protagonists to live out romantic, heroic lives. That's probably more what its about.
The "dark rogue" for Rinoa reminds me of how I used to enjoy putting time mage and thief on the same character in FF5. I think she was a "dark logue" in the French localization, something to do with L and R being homophonic in Japanese.
I've played around 4500 hours of this game and know damn near everything about it, and this sounds fun AF! I always considered summoning GFs to actually be pretty weak. Multi hit moves is best! No limit breaks definitely makes things hard though.
I love this idea and i want more episodes!😂 The editing and the Quistis being a Mother and Selphie being stubborn as she looks i love it!😂❤ An Icon a legend and she is the moment!❤
Everyone who complains about levelling in FFVIII: Fighting is bad because enemies level up with you and it's a bad thing Me: Bosses don't level up with you, though... and enemies only really level up if you stop to powerlevel or grind too much, why do people struggle in this game? Those same people: I don't know, but if I don't like it then it's bad and everyone else agrees
Will you do other Final Fantasy games with a class system? Like 6, 10 or 12 (the original version, not the Zodiac version)? All have good customization to mess around with, so a class system would be really cool to see implemented. ❤ Love this series of gameplay. Keep up the great work. Makes me want to replay thsrs games under class rules. ❤
The irony of challenges like this is that a lot of people had serious problems comprehending the junction system in the first place. There's people who still think FF8 is the hardest game in the series because they didn't or couldn't junction properly and eventually the game gets hard when playing with naked characters. Even Kitase himself said that if they were ever to Remake FF8 someday then the junction system would be heavily simplified or perhaps scrapped. Personally I loved the junction system with its flexibility and depth.
I did a run like this once. Except I made Squall a Dark Knight having him utilize Diabolos and Brothers(Having access to Darkside/Cover/Defend). This forces Squall to choose whether to defend or attack. With minor exception, everyone else but Rinoa and Irvine was basically in the same role. Instead of Dark Rogue, I made Rinoa a Sage/Sorceress where she gains access to all magics at the cost of having HORRIBLE defensive stats. As for Irvine; I made him more of an Engineer class. I combined a speedy ranger type build with an alchemist item lore type build.(Damage is not great but he fast and heals well, just not quite as well as White Mage Selphie at certain points of the game)
I'm going to try this challenge for myself. FF8 is my favourite FF game and I think this will be a really interesting and difficult way to play rather than getting overpowered before even entering the Fire Cavern XD
Great idea to balance out this game's difficulty curve. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the videos. Small suggestion, Please do something for the plosives if you're going to hold the microphone in your hand. I tend to listen to these to go to bed and it's really helpful when the audio is balanced.
I’ve heard it pronounced “keht-sza-co-ahk-tul” sometimes the second q is ignored but that’s from my memory of it being said in an American show (an episode of Gargoyles, as it were)
My man, I'm only 2 minutes in... but Squall ain't no Knight... He's a Dark Knight without Darkside with that setup. If he was a Knight, he'd had some basic cure and buff spells, and COVER
Yeah, knights always have basic coverage for their allies and protects them physically and should have had access to at least Cure 1, Protect and Life. But he 100% is a dark knight. Other class abilities here are VERY questionable as well.
This is a fun idea for a playthrough! On my last run I intentionally levelled up a little each disc (i.e. 40 by end of disc 2) but I think I’ll also borrow some ideas from this next time!
Even though bosses do level with you, the do cap at a point. I did an intentionally unoptimized playthrough that allowed grinding and had to resort to out leveling a few early bosses
@@syncidenceeven if I agreed that the way the Japanese pronounce a name should be how we pronounce it in America (which I don't) he's pronouncing it "keets-siss" and not "kiss-tiss" which is how "KISUTISU" would be pronounced.
