    You might want to look into getting a snorkel/vent tube on the breather. Sitting at idle means you are getting a large amount of hot air ingested into the carb which will also induce stalling.

    Good advice as always Jason. When you pick up a new to you Lincoln, at least do all the rubber fuel lines for peace of mind, safety, and to learn your car. The metal fuel lines under the rocker are easy to replace until you get to the rear wheel well, then it just takes some patience....A rebuilt 3 port is less expensive in terms of time, money and aggravation than a tow truck ride....

      Agreed on this all the way around. Thanks for the support. Good advice on the rubber lines.

    You gave alot of great tips. Here's another Chris Dunn of Lincoln land gave me many years ago. Make sure your fuel pumps push rod is not worn. The slightest wear will shorten the stroke lowering pressure which makes vapor lock more likely. I installed an electric pump hidden behind my '60 Lincoln's left wheel well housing 30 years ago and never had any problems since.

      TY for the comment and support. That is a great idea. My buddy did the same on his '65. I wanted to do it in this car as well just for the priming when the car sits.

    • @geralderdek282

      The electric pump saves wear on my starter too as it starts faster after sitting. I had to use a rubber pad to mount the pump on to lessen the noise. Just a faint purr now.

    For all my carbureted cars, I use non-ethanol gas and that eliminates any vapor lock problem. It’s just hard to find the right gas.

    • @lincolnaddict
      @lincolnaddict  6 місяців тому +1

      Well stated. I should have reinforced this. I highly recommend non ethanol fuel. A buddy of mine, who is a Cadillac guy, has really reinforced this to me over the years. From what I understand the ethanol fuel really wreaks havoc on seals etc. as well.

    Ac therma cell 3/8'' insolation from any hardware store on all of the gas line in the engine bay to the carb is the trick..., Steel gas line gets very hot...

    I found my original 3 port fuel pump. It might need to be rebuilt. I think I will switching a few things back.
    Can you take off the air handler and show us your vacuum line setup?
    I installed a few of the things you suggested including a radiator. My car is not over heating but the vapor lock is still happening. Also my fuel lines are near the hot part of the engine. I will move them. I cannot use my 3 port fuel pump so I have a splitter on a fuel filter by wix. I took it off but I will put it back on. I felt like it was making my fuel pressure lower. Now I realize it was the heat on the fuel lines. Also, I my have a vacuum leak. I am not sure where one of the hoses go or belong. Thanks for the advice. Actually, I still have original insulation for the fuel lines and the heat shield. I am not currently using because I didn’t know what it was for. I have lost a lot of things due to the mechanics I have had in the past. They took things or lost things. I cannot use my air handler because the top middle piece was lost by a mechanic. You know how much those things cost? Air handler is $350 at Lincoln Land.

      Email me LincolnAddictPodcast@gmail.com and I'll get you in contact with Tony or DM him on Instagram @BossBolin for parts and any rebuilds. Yeah I can do a video like that soon. It has to be the heat and the fuel basically cooking before it gets to the carb. Insulation is key (in my opinion) on the fuel lines. I prefer the factory insulation.

    I believe the electric fan is a good idea. I have not yet but I am thinking about it. 3300 cfm you said? I will look for it. I already thought about having the fuel lines insulated. I had those when I got the car and tossed them not knowing what they were for at the time. I have an electric fuel pump. I had one that had 2 ports on it. No good to me. I took it off. I still use a Wix fuel filter with 2 ports on it. I use it as a splitter for the return line. Some people are going with a larger return line. I am not sure I need that. Yes, Champion is out on the radiators. I had a small leak I repaired it but I do want a new one for long term use. Let me know if if you know the rpm for this car at idle. I have a 430 7.0 engine. I have a book but it is for the 64 and I have the 63. I can't find the idle speed for it.

      Call Chris at Lincoln Land and see if he can give you the info you need. Also, I would suggest a 3 port mechanical but if you have an electrical fuel pump you should be ok. I There is a Mustang radiator you can go with without a filler and then you do the filler like I did on my '64. I think it is what Pat did in the link I posted.

      @@lincolnaddict I actually have the original 3-port fuel pump but I opted to use the electric pump after my mechanic chose to use a 2-port one. It gave me a lot of trouble. I will keep the 3-ports in case I ever want to go back to it. Update I changed out the water pump and got a great result. I am waiting for the radiator. Oil dipstick was broken and I am replacing it.
      What type of oil and fuel do you use?

    Who rebuilt your Carter 3 port carburetor? I have my original one and it needs to be rebuilt. My car is not overheating anymore but it is stalling. I am trying to figure out what I can about the vapor lock. I am running a return. My return fuel line is probably too big. I will fix that and get some insulation for the fuel lines. My fuel line is running too close to the engine and the hot lines around the engine. I am also sure I have a vacuum leak.

    What are your thoughts on removing the mechanical pump completely and going electric?

    • @lincolnaddict
      @lincolnaddict  2 роки тому +2

      I meant to cover this. Adding an electric fuel pump as a primer to me is fantastic. Removing the mechanical for an electric pump works to but I’d prefer the mechanical …. I’m going to add an electric to my car for priming the carb. The choke doesn’t currently work on the car so I’d like to be able to easily prime it. Thanks for the support.

    Hi i have one question i have a lincoln continental 1958 and it had a mel 430 in it but we change it to a mel 462 and The transmission but now dosen't the speedmeter work. How do i make it so that i workes?

    • @lincolnaddict
      @lincolnaddict  Рік тому

      Hello, so the speedo is controller by a speedo gear in the side of the trans. This isn't everything you need but gives you some insight. I would call Lincoln Land Inc. in Clearwater and tell them the issue. They will prob say to check to see if the gear is missing OR... it could be that the cable is not seated correctly in the back o the speedometer in the gauge cluster. e.g. if it falls out or is not seated the cable that spins will simply not drive the speedo hence it will not move at all when driving. Example my '79 GMC C30 dually had a speedo cable that needed to be replaced. They often get gummed up inside real back and the cable will no longer spin. I changed it but when I did it was not seated correctly in the cluster and it came out causing the speedo not to work. www.thelincolnforum.net/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?t=48914

      @@Wifsuf understood. Call Lincoln Land and see if they can offer a solution. A new cable sounds like the solution as long as it fits on the speedometer side. They are experts so I would defer to them.

      @@lincolnaddict I searched around and I found a radiator and fan combo. I wanted a straight-blade fan but could not find it in the price range I wanted. Not sure when it will arrive. I purchased a 1906 750 cfm Edelbrock carburetor. The adaptor I ordered did not fit. Dang! I need to send that back. I ordered a spacer and I am waiting for it. It should o come tomorrow. I ordered a new water pump and it has arrived. I should start the installation today. My windows and seats do not work but that is another story. I cleaned the connections still nothing there. Just clicks. I have a video. I am a travel youtuber. I have not decided what I will do with my car footage yet. I am also patching, cutting, and painting panels on my car. My main concern is setting the timing. I have never done that before. I had a guy and I don't know where he is anymore.

I will go ahead with all my other plans while I am looking for one. It is looking like I will be out of $600 either way.
