The Counter-Strike 2 Workshop Tools were released last night, including the new Hammer map editor for the Source 2 Engine. With new Raytracing technology, heavy system requirements, and CS2 Porting Tools for Source 1 content, the future of community content is looking bright! - Ігри
I said it before and i'll say it again, the updated tools are what will allow much more creativity to come from new maps, and most likely allow for quicker iteration process.
nowayreally
source 2 just opens the gates for so many things in the future. much bigger dangerzone maps ( better performance at the same time), and just much more modded game modes
Shame that you cannot test levels inside of the editor in realtime
@@AlleyKatPr0 You could try this. store.steampowered.com/app/1307980/Another_Earth_Gaming_Grid/
anyone who has been making maps for half life alyx have a head start. I learnt how to use hammer for alyx and recreated the inside layout of my house (with correct measurements). Learning was tricky, but from my experience with CS1.6 and CSS hammer, it's definitely easier to pump out way better looking maps now.
Make Dust 3 for us 🙏
Pls tell me func_vehicle is possible now!
just looking at this video it looks fairly easy to learn, if you worked in engines of other games worked with the old hammer, and or worked in the industry. But how do you obtain these tools? do you actually have to be beta invited?
@@maazmasood5305 I don't have access to the CS2 tools so no idea
@@leflyxdvd yeah currently it's just with the limited beta
"The editor is unfortunately very different" No. It isn't unfortunately. Everyone hated the old one lmao. I am stoked to be able to finally not have to work with that rusty old hammer editor, and finally use a mesh based one, even if I have yet to learn it.
"different" but better imo, i got used to hammer etc and it wasnt really the easiest to navigate but this one actually looks more like every other engine that alot of people might feel familiar work with so im guessing people with any experience will learn this version in no time.
@@leflyxdvdyup, it hated it, but once I got used to it I kinda felt like a wizard being able to do certain things fast… now I’ll be even more excited when I don’t have to wait to compile the map to see what it looks like😂
the old editor is the ms paint of map editors, lacking but very familiar.
I dont hate it, i kinda hate the new one because its more confusing
Unfortunately, it is only available to users who have CS2 access, which is an alarmingly small number of people. After we filter out everyone who isn't a mapper, we can tell that the news pleased a single guy out there.
It’s crazy that they’d release it without opening the beta to people with hours in the csgo hammer editor. No one of the current beta testers will be using this.
dratnabit
We got cracks in major mapping community that we are sharing around.
Hoping there will be a TopHATTwaffle Hammer 2 guide :D
Eagle One dev team has some pretty good ones, go check them out!
Hoping to see 3kliks go wild with it
@@MeowysteryThey’ve recently started posting ones dedicated to cs2 specifically as well!
Welp, this is what ive been waiting for. Time for all my map ideas to finally come to life. Cannot wait to use this and get rolling on some new maps.
looking forward to see what incredible surf maps will be possible with the new engine
I cant wait finally to get into mapping. I tried it many times but always gave up. This time i will make a surf map for sure lol
I've been waiting a looong time for this!
look forward to your work :D
I was waiting for someone to make a video on this
From my time playing around with the new Source 2 tools for Counter-Strike, I'm really hoping Valve considers adding a de-noising option to the GPU path-tracing feature in Hammer. I'd like to edit maps using it, but the problem at the moment is that when you move the camera around, it's very grainy.
Well, either you have it grainy and fast, or crispy clean and painfully slow. The hardware isn't there yet.
The path-tracing option is likely not intended for live editing; it's probably just to preview how your map will look like using all of the shiny new lighting that Source 2 offers, but I think you'll spend the majority of your time in regular lighting mode
The new tools are very dope, one shitty trade off though is the high spec requirement, I’ve heard from a couple people not even just compiling but even just running hammer without and rtx enabled card is tough, other then that though is very cool, excited to see what community will do
i mean RTX cards came out 3 years ago
@@remm_ttv I mean rockets came out 20+ years ago
I have GTX 1070 and source 2 hammer is running very nicely (never below 240 fps) even on huge unoptimized maps that i imported from old hammer. But light compile time (small room with few corridors when everything is done right) takes fucking hours to compile at maximum lighting details. I suppose that will be gone with RTX support
100 kg of beans is a lot of beans@Taistelupelto420
@@XXLcze can you tell me how to compile a card without an rtx card, at the moment I have a 1060 6gb card that shows raytracing support in gpu, but assuming that this is not native support for this function
I’m looking forward to the sick new community maps that will ultimately be cs2 classics
IM SO STOKED!!! Ive been wanting to learn how to make surf maps and now the tools are even better!!!! New Surf maps inbound? o.O
It took me about a day to feel comfortable with source2's hammer back then, and I believe it will be that big upgrade people asked for with CS2
Do you have tips to make a good surf combat map? I'm thinking open jail is a must, but after that I'm not sure how to balance timings and lines of sight and generally, scale.
I should hopefully be able to run it with a 6650xt and i5 13400. Really looking forward to getting back into making maps even if i dont yet have skills to make custom models or any (decent looking) textures
I think it was worth it of practicing hammer 2 in steamVR for S&box however i stopped it cause SteamVR had some problems, But will try again with CS2's Hammer 2.
Hammer 2 is pretty easy, I dont have any experience on mapping but just learning about some of the features and how to use it online in just like 2 or 3 days i got the hang of it and made 3 maps.
How can u acess the new Tool? Or can u?
Guess I'll have to stick to HL:As hammer editor
FOR-EV-VER
Can you edit already existing maps in new hammer? Like dust2, inferno etc..?
i ma just waiting for floodgates to open when community gets to work and community maps and workshops will be accessible in cs2
Is there anyway to access the tools without the source 2 beta?
Does anyone know how to import characters into the Character folder and have it taken by the Workshop? In the compilation it generates the characters folder but it does not add it to the workshop when I want to upload it to the workshop
is it possible to model map in blender and then import it in hammer? If it possible can you show how?
Once downloaded, can the workshop tools be used offline?

soooo if i have 1070ti its rip for me ?
Bro Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 (6gb) me hoga support??

Can I still use this and mske skins if I have a GTX1650?
Imagine the filesize of some Zombie escape maps and even some surf maps, hard drives arent ready for this.
Ze_aztecnoob went from 30 mb to 100 mb in hichatu’s day 2 port lmao.
Hey I have access to CS 2 Limited Test now but the CS Workshop Tools dont appear when I try to lauch the game. Anything I can do ?
in settings > game, enable both developer console and workshop tools, then relaunch game and it will be one of the options
how do you launch this thing?
have 400 hours in source 1 editor but no access to beta so i can't use the new one :( it's killing me
does anyone know if the tools are available for linux?
it means that if i have gtx 1050 ti, hammer will be very laggy or i won't be able to run it because i don't have rtx?
you will be unable to compile and render, but i think you will be able to run hammer and make maps! Idk how all of the compiling works but maybe you could send it to a friend
so do you have to have an RTX in order to compile a map?
right now there is CPU Compiling but it is going to be removed :(
How did you get access to it?
I just want somebody to port over TF2 maps into the new hammer and launch them on CS2 so we can have at least a small glimpse of how TF2 could look like on Source 2
Can i use this thing even when i have rx6600 not xt version?
yes
Can't wait to see 2fort.
where i can download these tools? cant find them anywhere
only if you have cs2 access, and its in the settings
how do u get access to this?
Don't you need to have CS2 to get access to the new Hammer editor?
If they add software ray tracing for the GTX gpus just like blender, it would be fair for both sides.
not gonna lie, if they just make all the brushes and props being ported over to source 2 with source 1 maps, i'd be fine with that. i'd love to port my maps over and just add new lighting.
I'm ready to map
can you make dust 2 but open all the buildings
Can I download CS2 mapping tools already, or is it limited to people who have access to cs2 beta?
Only to people who got beta access
@@m.n.s.s2825 thats actually so sad that mapmakers aren't able to do any work if they are not added in the beta lol
@@m.n.s.s2825 this is crazy wtf
@@Brand0nnnye wtf took me forever to find out it's not available to everyone. So only CS pros and valorant streamers can make new maps??? Hopefully a crack will be out soon
@@Brand0nnn Every map maker who's had a map featured officially in the game is in the beta
And the workbench? has it changed?
yes that was changed as well i believe, but I have no experience with items so hopefully someone else can do a deep dive
So when are custom maps coming to CS2?
check most recent vid, i also have a new vid on the way for cs2 surf maps
In my experience with this so far, what should've been an exciting new time for mapping has turned into a total nightmare. From trying to crack the da vinci code to try port in an old map to new engine, to learning the new hammer, to not having a ray tracing gpu. It shouldve been a new era full of streamlined improved processes and for me, its been everything but that. Totally killed any ambitions of map creating that i had and set the corpse on fire. Thanks valve.
how big can maps get?
Source 2 does not have a predetermined size for maps like Source 1 has.
Technically, as big as you want, but I'm sure issues would come with performance and whatnot. The background/"skybox" decor in Anubis for example are actual props that are placed extremely far away.
The new hammer WAY WAY easier then the old one. I can't wait for workshop release.
I'm a bit scared of the minimum specs requirement for Hammer, 2060 TI is the minimum, but I have a basic 2060. I wonder if I can run it. I really hope (HL:A Hammer worked fine)
wtf broooo IT Will run. it's the recommended specs. just look at me (a mapper) with an integrated graphics from 2013. that used to run csgo fine. and I got cs2 access but it ran 12 fps
don't worry people will find a way to run the editor on 2001 Windows xp machines lol
The editor will run fine, worse GPUs will have crazy long compile times though
It will run, this is only about the Ray traced lighting simulation, and the compile GPU acceleration.Your compiles will unfortunately be slower, and won't be able to use the lighting preview to it's fullest, but it's still gonna run pretty well for you overall.
@@ourchicken It's actually not the "recommended" it's the minimum. The recommended is 2080TI . But I hope you are right. I mean after all, I could do some tinkering with Half life alyx hammer, which is the same.
How can ksf recover from this
how do i get the new hammer?
if you have beta access, it should be located in the cs2 settings and then relaunch, select workshop tools
Wait, how to access this? My hammer hasn’t changed at all…
unfortunately you need CS2 access, the hammer tools are found through the settings
I'm probably asleep right now, but if I got anything wrong let me know here and i'll pin it in the morning!
Not tested but I think the RT compatible GPU is only required for the pathtraced light sim (less accurate light sim is still accessible.) It also improves light map compile times. CPU light mapping should still exist as used in the HLA tools
@@THG_ i know so little about this, but i know somone was trying really hard to CPU compile lightmaps. Its all in the source engine discord!
How do you dowload ? does everyone have access ?
no only folks with cs2 access :( My bad, should have made that clearer
@@Repster ah damn, as a long time Hammer mapper that sucks...thank you for your quick reply tho.

Maybe this wont crush every 2 seconds
RELEASED WHERE???
Wow, youtube says that this video is about cs 2.
WHAT why the RX 6600 XT and not the RX 6600?? I just bought the 6600 and I can literally run RTX on my card!!! Valve please fix!
how to run it????????
i just launched it!
guys the min specs are clearly just recommended, we gtx1050 gangs and worse can still run it, just not pathtracing etc in real time.
Do you think that CS2 will Allow CSGO's textures and models into hammer editor? (Like read from the CSGO dir) Because trying to load a map from Source 1 to Source 2 has everything but a few models and textures become errors/missing
Im not sure, thats a really important question. You might have to port models over as well.
@@Repster Its mainly important cause i've been working on a map using CSGO textures and models, along with custom ones, all they would have to do is change or add the path for the textures and stuff
I downloaded CS2 workshop tool, but I can not fire up the map editor, how do I do it?
You will first see the addon selection. Make an addon for your map. Open that addon by double-clicking it. You'll see the Asset Browser pop up. In the top-right under "tools" you can open Hammer. In Hammer you can make a new map, or you can open the blank one that was created when you made the addon.
Hold on hold on hold on HOLD ON… errors?!?!?!?!
So what youre saying is that 3kliksphilip will absolutely cream his pants about this?
I really hope this won't break existing hammer tools. And unless they change a lot about the current state of CS2 (like being able to see your feet) I cannot see myself making surf maps for CS2.
I'm not sure if the old (S1) Hammer will work after CS2 comes out. CS2 will be like an update, will replace and delete files from the current ( cs:go ) folder. Also, the Hammer we have now is so outdated and bad I can not see why would anyone stick with the old Hammer even if it would work after the update.
I've surfed before and I might see a bit of problem with what you've wrote about seeing your feet. But I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about that one. You are probably not alone with this, personally I don't mind the feet, but sure while surfing and going down in a narrow hole can be annoying seeing yourself. As we already know CS:GO was somewhat "moddable" I mean - many custom community made servers had VIP character models and so on, I can see CS2 community made servers being able to make your feet disappear.
@@rEd1337 Nah it will prolly be fine cause CSS hammer hopefully wont be affected
@@ethhicswhy would CSS hammer be affected though, not like CSS2 is coming lol. It'll be the same like half life 1 (goldsource hammer) and half life 2's hammer. Both are kept separate.
where tf did they release

Csgo getting ray racing in game or just in hammer?
in game as well but they will be pre-baked so that you dont have to constantly render new lighting
@@Repster That's a bad way to put it.
CSGO always had baked-in ray-traced lighting. That means when the map was compiled, the advanced lighting also was and it was turned into (basically) a texture that sits on top of the models and map geometry. You'll notice the real-time shadows of the player and physics objects don't look nearly as good as the environmental shadows.
The game will not be getting ray tracing, for good reasons. Hammer has always had it during the compile stage. But Source 2 Hammer is able to do real-time path-tracing to simulate a compile. It's fast and accurate so it's a noisy mess you wouldn't want in game, but it's a nice tool.
will work in my geforce 8400 gs? :C
Does this mean that cs now have ray tracing?
No. That's a can of worms for a hyper-competitive game. The ray tracing is meant only for map making. The lighting in CSGO and CS2 is baked into the level (for the most part), like, most of the shadows on the map are actually a texture put onto the models and world geometry. The game isn't actually calculating much lighting. CSGO Looked great for how simple it was because all of the shadows were ray-traced then baked in to the environment. CS2 looks even better. But while CSGO's ray-tracing was done with CPU calculations (which took a long time), CS2's ray-tracing takes many, many times longer. Like, a stupidly long amount of time. So they are not supporting CPU compute anymore and moved all ray-tracing to the GPU. More specifically, instead of having to program for and support normal GPU's, they're specifically focusing on RTX cards because they have cores specifically designed for ray-tracing that speed up the process. Even with new compiles running on powerful modern graphics cards with RTX cores, a really simple map will still take longer than a more complex map being compiled in CSGO with an older CPU, that's how much more complicated and advanced the lighting is in Source 2.
So no, the game won't be getting ray-tracing (for good reasons), but you can activate real-time ray tracing inside the Hammer map editor to preview what the compile will look like. It's trying to be accurate so no shortcuts, no denoising, just pure path-tracing, which means it's a noisy mess, but it's great for seeing what the map will look like before a compile that might take over a day.
Why would they limit the hammer to ray-tracing only... that makes no sense.
I think you misheard what the guy was saying, it requires you to have a beefy graphics card, but it does not NEED to have ray-tracing in it, you just won't get to use real time light rendering. At least, that's how HL:A and S&box did it, I may be completely wrong with CS2.
You can activate ray-tracing to get accurate lighting generation in real time. Way better than having to compile the map for 30 minutes straight just to see a light change.
I have no idea if my comment is loading pepehands

Doesn't dota has 1 map? Why it needs an editor lol

I think it's absurd how they're basically forcing people to upgrade their GPUs or be unable to map. I haven't used it yet, but if you can't turn the ray tracing feature off I think this will get a lot of backlash. We shouldn't paywall community creativity.
Bro the recommended GPUs for this came out years ago, you tripping right now saying it's "absurd" and that the community is being paywalled. Upgrade your GTX 960 broke ass already.
i assume that you can still use it, just not with the fun real time raytrace preview.
maybe there is a hammer++ style manual baking thing to still get a nice preview but not updated in realtime hmmm
Like blender or any other 3d editor you can still use it, but you won't have real-time feedback on how it looks in finished product
It's not absurd in the slightest. They want people to make CS2 adequate maps. You can definitely run it on old systems but it wouldn't be a great experience.
@@itizwhatitiz9560 You don't need a strong PC to make high-fidelity stuff. I got plenty of friends with PCs barely capable enough to run their game dev software but they still suffer thru the low framerate and continue to add pretty graphics

Let's not make it sound overcomplicated either. I worked in the original Hammer editor for maybe 2 or 3 hours in total, but Hammer 2 is so much easier to learn. Way more user friendly in terms of hotkeys and camera control.
