I too love freq counters. You may have more of them than I do, but I doubt it. It seems like I get a broken one at every ham swap for $10 or $20 to fix.
I've had the frequency addiction eve since I built a TRF WWVB receiver for a lab reference before the days of GPS receiver references. Then I bought an HP 524 that hurt my back, so I resold it for half of what I paid for it. I loved it. Dials, knobs, Nixies, switches, It was a work of tech art. It was very stable after being in operation 24/7 for 20 years at a TV transmitter site before I bought it. But if I'd kept it it would have crippled me. Those aren't boat anchors. Those are the whole boat.
It doesn't help that I sometimes do contract repair work for the Time and Frequency group at NIST in Colorado. I'm like a kid in a candy shop when I see a rack array of 8 old 5061B's feeding WWV, and I feel like I'm in a church when I stand in the room with NIST-F1 with its correction for the tidal pull on the east and west coasts each day. :)
Yes you can never have too many :)
Very nice counter, Tony. Good to see it cleaned up, calibrated and fully functional. Racal-Dana make high quality instruments - I have a 9035 counter that I repaired that has a similar OXCO and it also is easily adjusted and very stable. Regards, David
Thanks David, yes it seems they are for life or outlive us :)
Hi Tony, sorry for the question, but very interesting, do you buy all this yourself as a collection? Or is it all very inexpensive?
Is it really possible to have such a laboratory?
Hi, result of 30 years of collecting.
Nice unit. You are right about those old ribbon cables, especially that big.
Thanks, yes very risky.
Well done!
Thank you!
Nice of you to use the correct transistor, but seeing the job it is doing, pretty much any transistor would be fine.
Yes agreed, but 50 cents and 2 weeks waiting to keep it original, why not.
@@TonyAlbus Quite right, I suppose. It's not as if you were in a hurry.
Like a PRO. 😉👌
Thank you!
That is a nice counter! So much extra room in there, it just BEGS for a rubidium oscillator mod!
Space enough for mods for sure!
@@TonyAlbus I actually just scored a second HP 53131A with the 3GHZ option. I plan to install one of the new GPSDO boards in it! I can hardly wait!!! 🤩
@@Runco990 Wow! thats cool! hope it arrives fast
One of the Racal Counter options was a rubidium oscillator.
@@anandarochisha Thats cool... bit i will not be looking for it becouse of the gpsdo lab reference i use anyway.
I love counter videos! Very nice 👍
Yes :) me too, and more coming
Nice work!
Thanks!
fajny miernik :)
Thank you!
