    There's crazy editing because this is a kuka robot ad. You'd need very fast, very accurate vision systems to play ping pong with a robot. For the time it would take the robot to even receive an image, do the math for the correct position and swing, the ball is already going to be off the table.
    I program a Fanuc R1000ia-30ib with said vision systems. It's all but 'fast'.

    • @chrismitchell4840
      @chrismitchell4840 4 роки тому +1

      I learned to program KUKA weld bots years ago - 2 on a rail and one overhead utilizing a synchronized fixture table (350 deg rotation) that all 3 bots were welding at 1" per second (Miller square wave CLE power souce). Assemblies were very complex and had multiple weld requirements for each unit.
      Even set up a weld cell using (2) Foronius CMT power units on a KUKA longitudinal seam system to weld 30' galvanized grain elevator legs - 1 on each side and would weld at 3" /second (10 minute production rate). Used a 2 axis robotic arm (each side) rather than a fixed drive to increase production rate by position feedback to the bot controller since the leg sides were inconsistant surface level - basically each leg was made from 2 formed sides with 3 bends from various thickness (12-20 ga sheet metal). Using fixed rail modules that the stinger is mounted to requires head adjustment for each thickness. The KUKA position feedback auto adjusts as well as torch head angle compensation based on volt/amp/speed variables.
      Sorry, that was long - my comment is I never had an opportunity to utilize vision systems due to they were in infancy when I set up cells 15-20 years ago.
      The systems today are incredibly fast as proven in the video!

      In a dark room, tension thick,
      A table set, no crowd, no tick,
      Timo Boll and KUKA's might,
      Engaged in battle, silent fight.
      Six to zero, robot's lead,
      Precision, speed, mechanical creed,
      Boll was down but not defeated,
      A spark within him, newly heated.
      A strike, a hit, the ball met net,
      Not on the serve, a point to get,
      Boll's first score, the game's new phase,
      In that dark room, a glowing blaze.
      Point by point, he fought his way,
      In silence, darkness, a tense ballet,
      The robot faltered, Boll took charge,
      A comeback story, a victory large.
      Eleven-nine, the final score,
      A match like none seen before,
      Man and machine, a dance, a game,
      In shadows played, and won by Boll's fame.
      In that dim room, the challenge grows,
      Not one robot, but five in rows,
      Boll's skill tested, a feat so grand,
      Three balls in play, and both his hands.
      The robots whir, their paddles flash,
      Boll's every move, a dance, a dash,
      Three balls spinning, a wild ballet,
      In shadows cast, a mesmerizing display.
      Left and right, his hands do swing,
      A symphony of ping and pong they sing,
      Five robots striving, yet falling short,
      Boll's mastery, their efforts thwart.
      A game of skill, a test of might,
      In that dark room, a wondrous sight,
      Man and machines, a battle rare,
      Boll's triumph clear, beyond compare.
      A tale to tell, a legend's game,
      In table tennis, Boll's enduring fame,
      Against the odds, against machine,
      A victory won, in shadows seen.

      A "live" match between a professional vs an industrial machine would riquired a lots of sensors, and a very complicated software to operate. That would be a very difficult thing to do, even if it is not impossible. Who is in the robotics can understand why this is not "live". The video only representsd the movement capability of the robot, what is quite impressive imo.
      Stop hating, they have to precisely program EVERY SINGLE MOVEMENT, what is in the vid, and Timo Boll had to aim for that one direction, with a precise timing, to do it right.

      It isn't "dope." It isn't actually playing anything because its not reacting to the player. All the moves you see and movements you see are programmed positions in a world or user frame relative to a master position and home position which you see the robot go to several times through the vid. what you are seeing is the human react to the robots programming. In order for the robot to "play" it would need some form of a vision system so see where the ball is and it still wouldn't do what they are saying it does here. all you see on the EOAT is a single paddle. The true work horse of robotics is Fanuc. The most cutting edge right now is UR(Universal Robotics). Kuka robots are not user friendly they are temperamental and require extra purchases to remaster the robot. a $30K remastering kit.

    This is not fake. Such a robot is very easy to make by today's standards. We are looking to do much more complex things with AI today. Table tennis would have been impressive 10 years ago. Today, we are talking about fully autonomous cars. There is no comparison in the complexity between these two tasks. And if it was fake why would they make the robot lose? If you will notice, the robot has a single strategy: go for the farthest corners. Robots can move much faster than humans, that is all the are demonstrating here. Once he figures out the robot strategy he is easily able to beat it.

    It looks like video editing software commercial, not robot commercial.
    I was waiting for this video to see that outstanding robot performance, but everything is chopped to 1 second slow motions, speed ups and fancy camera moves.

    This needs to be re-edited at a wider angle so that both human, table and machine arm can be seen in a single frame, then let the game play from start to finish without any special effects as primary footage ~ no CGI, no jump cuts, slow-mo only on replays.

    Well this was disapointing... Looks like Michael Bay directed this or something, waaay over edited and each shot is kept for like 0.5 seconds at max. Would have been much better with just a fixed camera so you could actually see something ^^

    How to maximally reduce the actual information content and real imoression of what happened by contantly changing camera angles snd speeds and never simply showing what happened from a useful perspective at real speed for any useful length of time. Brilliant!

  • @THCV4

    I really wish they would show a non-dramatized version. All the slow mo and the guy pumping his fist was just overkill. I want to see the real thing.

    • @Astravall
      @Astravall 10 років тому

      azathoth6111985 Well it may be fake, but it is no animation ... watch the making of! Sure the robot is preprogrammed, but it returns the ball .. with massive help of Timo Boll as he plays the ball to the corresponding programmed spot. But there doesn't seem to be CIG or animation.

    • @azathoth6111985
      @azathoth6111985 10 років тому

      Maybe you are not acquainted with table tennis, but the behaviour of the ball is unbelievable, 0:42 Timo attacks with a top spin, and the robot receives it with OPEN angle, like answering a backspin, the ball would flown away from the table. 0:44 Timo hits the ball with a chop, and the robot pass the ball with CLOSED angle!! Is obviously fake to the eyes of those who know a bit about table tennis

    • @ScottOlsenctrlbreak
      @ScottOlsenctrlbreak 10 років тому

      RacoonProds
      Umm... what? There is likely NO CGI in this video, at least none regarding the robot. Perhaps some dramatic lens flares or other such BS.

    • @psykad3lic
      @psykad3lic 10 років тому +1

      RacoonProds Are you an idiot? this isnt a trailer for a movie, this is an representation of the capabilities of this Robot, which I don't doubt by the way. All I am saying is they could have done this presentation a lot better. For the Hype they put out, they didn't deliver.
      For my self and thousands of other watching this video and obviously clicking the dislike button, its quite evident the community wanted a proper match, not this over dramatic cut scenes of what looks like scripted/edited/false representation of a proposed table tennis match between the worlds best table tennis player and most advanced robotic arm.
      Like Robot news said, "a nice commercial, but not a real ping pong match"

    • @thegoodhen
      @thegoodhen 10 років тому +18

      I know it's fake, but there could have easily been two high speed cameras from top and side off screen.

    • @flipzilip7138
      @flipzilip7138 10 років тому +3

      thegoodhen wouldn't help. the robotics arm would always be at least 3 seconds late and probably still be quite inaccurate.

    • @thegoodhen
      @thegoodhen 10 років тому +31

      Why? If you view the scene from 2 angles, you can get the position of the ball in 3D. You can also predict the movement. Why would it be late?

    • @flipzilip7138
      @flipzilip7138 10 років тому +4

      because of information processing times. believe me, 3 seconds for something that complex is a very optimistic guess.

    • @thegoodhen
      @thegoodhen 10 років тому +36

      Few differential equations plus very simple image recognition-the second thing can be done on a graphics card... I think it depends mainly on the computing power you have, but it isn't entirely unrealistic...

    No emotions to have to overcome, no attitude ajustments... And much easier to achieve than what Big Blue entailed.

    я вообще не понял смысл всего этого.
    вначале нам обещают поединок между машиной и человеком.
    потом нам дают фейк и даже не скрывают этого. камера двигается вокруг стола, над столом, под мячиком, перед ним, телепортируется с одной стороны на другу и вращается, когда время замерло.
    в конце нам сообщают о том, какие у них классные роботы, которых у них нет.
