- Marc Graue has voiced dozens of characters across film, television, and video games. Among his most notable appearances was as the one-time voice of Mario and Luigi, in 1993's Hotel Mario. Hotel Mario was the best-selling video game for the Philips CD-I.
In this segment, Graue talks about the polarizing reception to his portrayal of the Mushroom Kingdom's saviors, dealing with gamers, and challenges for voice actors.

Screw Charles, this guy is god.
Honestly, Charles voice is grating. It works because Mario never actually has much dialogue aside from "yahoos" and "let's go", but to actually hear full lines of dialogue in that high pitched, caricatured Italian accent... oof.
GarfieIf Thats why mario being a semi silent protagonist works in the games. Especially in the RPGs. He did sound fine in M64 so maybe its him getting older

Marc Graue actually makes a decent version of Mario, considering this was pretty much before Charles Martinet snagged the role. I only wished the audio quality for Hotel Mario was better in general. It would be a lot easier to listen to.
The audio quality is actually fine, it's just that Quebec gamers is an absolute garbage website

His voices for the Mario characters weren't bad at all. It was before Charles Martinet's voice became well know, and it sounded very similar to the DiC cartoons. The problem was the weird script and the low quality of that old video.

It would be funny if he got to voice Mario in some Easter Egg where we can swap Charles voice for his after you 100% complete a game or something. Because in all honesty, he's actually not a bad Mario. Sure, not the iconic voice we've come to know and love over the years, but he still fits the depiction of an Italian plumber in his own way. In fact, Charles was originally going to make him sound as raspy as this before he made the switch.

The Marc Mario voice is literally one of my go to voices, it actually fits quite a bit in multiple situations while the actual Charles Mario doesn’t really fit too much in situations other than Mario himself

I always pictured the CDI VAs as everyday people, not even actors who only accepted the job because it got to them, but this man sounds amazingly professional, he IS a real voice actor and seems very fond of his job. Is there anymore of this interview?

I mean, New Yorkers, especially those from Long Island, do have some strong Italian heritage, so the Long Island accent is pretty accurate, especially for an Italian plumber from New York.

This is a great interview even after these actors got hated for either starring in a so called bad game or having so called bad performances you can tell that they are nice people and are fun to interview with Marc grade mike oollack and Jason Griffith all seems relaxed and aware of what happened say what you guys want but hotel Mario and Sonic 06 has been hated enough and sonic x is far from the worst sonic cartoon ever although it still has its flaws I’ve found the second season to be the series biggest turnaround I can understand why the first season is hated but when you watch the second season you’ll notice some improvements case in point I like most Mario and sonic games and there’s only a handful of games from both franchises that I hate especially lost levels Sonics lost world Mario pinball land the sonic boom games the educational games from both franchises sonic forces Mario land 1 ( call it a love hate relationship) sonic labyrinth etc. plus smb1 and sonic 1 has moments where they age poorly so even the classics are not perfect
