I own this lens and I must say, it's my favorite every day lens. I wasn't a prime lens user until I began photographing with it. I love the bokeh and it's slight vignetting. I'm an old school guy who has used older dslrs like the nikon d810 with the 24-70 2.8 so weight isn't an issue for me. With heavier equipment, you develop ways of carrying them, and that's something I find myself automatically doing. My number one use of this lens is for indoor portraits, especially in low light situations. I probably would have separated the model further from the background to further display the lens's bokeh power. 😁 Thanks for the video 👍
I loved this and how she posed! I was shocked how big your 35mm lense was! Also loved how you immersed your model into the flowering bushes and how just small changes in the position of her head dramatically changed to picture! Great model with a great photographer handling her! Bravo
Particularly poetic, dreamy results! Are you sure the AF speed negatively impacted the shot! I am astounded - even knowing the general high level of your shots, how awesome your wide closeups are. And an artist like you should not worry about textbook wisdom like using longer glass for this kind of photos!
I have used that lens with my a9 and the AF speed is blazing fast, just as fast as when I use the Sigma 24-70 DN. I wonder if the slower AF speed was due to the external recorder she had attached to the camera.
@@TonyC0101 Also we do not know the AF mode Julia is using. My 35/1.2 focuses fast enough in AF-C + Eye AF on the shutter button that, in presented scenario, I can shoot anytime I want.
You can not compare the performance on different bodies with different settings, methinks. Julia uses a higher resolution lower speed camera. And not necessarily an AF setting for photojournalists. Which is what her target audience is interested in. Also speed is relative
Nice video! Really like that 35mm F1.2 combination. I have a Voigtlander M-mount lens with the same specs, and it's wonderful! Use it a lot. Works so well for everything from portraits to landscapes.
@@jamesjackson4264 Yeah, I figure it's a question of is the R&D and manufacturing worth it. The lens would be large even if they shaved a bit off, heavy and expensive for most, just like the Canon 28-70. Sony has been great releasing all the primes everyone wants, I doubt there is much noise being made about a fast AF zoom. There are no third party f2 full frame zooms currently other than the sigma 24-35 f2 which I'm currently using, it's just a bit short especially since I use the Fujinon mk18-55 and Sigma 18-35 normally on S35.
Omg! The photos look phenomenal 😍 Would you mind sharing one or two raw photos if possible. Or please make a editing contest or something like that, would love to edit your amazing photos. And love your work as always 💕
Julia, I love this review of the Sigma 35mm f1.2. I use a Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art for Canon on my 7D markii (It is heavy), but the 85mm focal length results are spot on crisp! I would love to see a review and your thoughts of the Canon 35mm f/2 and Canon Nifty Fifty. Thanks for your amazing content!
Great shoot, great model. Funnily enough, my personal preference leans towards the "unedited"shots rather than the tweaked ones :-) I did notice however, that the "unedited" ones had a whole lot more saturation than the video capture device. Which is odd, since you were using sony for video as well?? So I was wondering what was responsible for that "Unedited" color. (also, maybe you would want to use a different picture profile for the video? :D I dunno..)
so beautiful! so talented! you are my biggest inspiration julia!, love your vids love your work, just love everythig about your videos! thx alot! keep on going!
I have the Sony 35 1.8 (not the G Master) and I love that lens because of the quick AF and accuracy, not to mention how light it weighs! The Sigma on the other hand is HEFTY; I mean it weighs more than my Sigma 24-70!! But I suppose that's the trade-off for the 1.2... which is undeniably beautiful... Also, very brave of you to knock on a stranger's door to do a photo shoot right next to their front door 😂
Yes dear!! Photography is not all about speed. leave that to photojournalist and sports photographers, but these heavy prime lenses for the beautifull moments in a dreamy photo shoots as im watching your videos.
Hi Julia, i love your style of photography and the 35mm focal length for portraits. because i know you have an eye for such things, do you have an opinion on the look this lens gives an image compared to say the zeiss 35? a side by side comparisson of these two lenses from you would be amazing, but even if you just have an opinion to share that would be great.
Beautiful photos as always... I’m considering the Sony 35mm 1.4 and 1.8 lenses and would love to see a comparison review and get your opinion on the difference.
Good improvement from the art 1.4 in optics and AF performance. Sigma glass is great, just seems to be lacking a little bit of extra grunt in the AF speed department that would of made this lens perfect. For the price though it's a solid lens, as are most Sigma art lenses. 👍🏻
@@danpodbierezki auto focus is very fast and accurate for me, i'm leaning toward there being a problem with your lens but something seems not right to me. two downsides of the lens i have however are its flare and its bokeh shape toward the edges at wide aperature..i'm ok with the size :p
I’m trying to figure out the same thing. I saw the a device under the camera but not sure what it is. Looks like it could be a capture card or steaming device.

You should try in an an A9. AF is really fast. I had same issues with my sold a7r3. In my feeling all slower Sony lenses (liek FE50 1.4 and 85GM) focus quicker with the superior focusing system of the A9.
Julia Trotti, it's great to watch your videos as always. I am your fan. )) I thought for a long time what to buy, sigma 35 1.2 or Zeiss 35 1.4 and finally bought Zeiss, in favor of weight and size. ))
The cherry blossoms are beautiful! I absolutely love them! This photo shoot was so cute! And looks so fun! There are a bunch of these bushes that have orange flowers?... or berries? But I want to find a spot and take pictures haha but they are always on people’s properties haha and I am so awkward! But I absolutely love all of this! And I want to try out asking haha I am pretty used to the weird looks so it shouldn’t be that big a deal haha 😂
Oh I wish I had cherry blossoms around me to shoot with! I feel that is my common response to most Sigma lenses. The art lenses are really great but they are BIG. I end up multiplying their "value" with their weight and always imagine going with something else at the end of it. I mean at this point I am using my Zeiss Batis 25 (while I save up for the Sony 35) Random comment but I felt the Fujinon lens was being used. I am not proficient enough to say exactly why I felt that but as soon as the video started I was wondering and sure enough you mentioned it a little in to the video. Question for Dan.... Are you looking in to the A7S III? As always great video! Have fun and take care guys!
You should show 100% pictures in the video, so we can see the focus. Curious to see if both eyes were in focus on all the shots given the super shallow depth of field
the lens seems very fast and accurate to me. i read about a firmware issue some ppl were having recently so i wonder if this is related. i’m haply with my original firmware and never had problematic
Had the Sigma 35 mm 1.2 art but Sold it due to the heavy weight and massive size ... I bought the Sony Planar 50 mm T* F1.4 ZA and It's the best decision I've made
very good photos, however i do feel like the preset wasnt the best to use here. greens and pinks are all gone that were the highlights of the first location.

The distorted look of the 35mm is really cool. Especially if you have a gorgeous AF model :D That bokeh though... not a fan of new lenses for bokeh. Too creamy, too smooth, too perfect, too vapid and bland.
I think the colour grading for this video was amazing, really dreamy colours

Amazing wide lens with a beautiful bokeh and sharpness..
