The original recording for this whole article was FAR larger than this, and I may have gone a bit over the top on the cutting of the various paragraphs and responses in my attempt to keep a certain pace to the video. The point of this video is to look at framing techniques, and how just changing 1 single phrase in an article to something that means the same thing, but has different wording can entirely change the meaning of an article. I expect we will see MUCH more of these different framing techniques as we progress closer to release. Thanks for watching :)
Spoiler alert in season 2 of rings of power the producers of the show have decided to replace the black speech of mordor with russian and sauron with now the dark lord su-koi-yavich
To prove your point: I'm Argentinian, nothing to do with American or British politics, and even I rally to the banner of lotr against this disrespectful adaptation.
Exactly, Amazo produced trailers in many different languages and in all those languages is the same comment. On the other LOTR videos are people from all different countries who helped translate them who feel the same way. Its easy to understand why, people like a thing, so dont want that thing turned into something else. This is an idea that should be universal. The only people who want something chnaged would be those who dont like the thing.
Thank you my fellow fan . Let us stand together no matter what country we are from. I'm from Vanuatu in the South Pacific and I'm a fan of Tolkien's work.👍👏👏👏💯
As a Chinese guy, who's more C.S.Lewis than Tolkien, I am definitely more on the side that Tolkien's work should be left the heck alone since he was making a whole world and history for a universe. I am guessing student needs to stop reading articles about Tolkien on Cracked in Yoshinoya on his phone and read some books in a library.
Exactly. They pretty much admitted it. When the question about a Black actor playing an Elf came up, if they said he was the best actor who auditioned, the majority of fans wouldn't worry about it. However that wasn't the case, they bragged about "diversity".
@@rksnj6797 Exactly. He looks nothing like an elf. He is a good looking guy, but he hasn't a single quality the elves do. The elf in the teaser (which I'm assuming is Gil-Galad) actually mostly looks like an elf. His costume looks cheap he looks pretty good. If the black characters at least looked somewhat like the race it wouldn't be quite as insulting.
@CanisMalus On what ground? Can I just call you racist and everyone will believe me just because I said so? Don't be so eager to throw allegations with no substance, it makes you look like a moron.
@CanisMalus Do you realize that Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings is the 3rd most sold book in the world and that it has been translated to over 40 languages and thus Tolkien fans are from all over the world and in all the skin colors. So you literally called every African American, Native American, Latin American, Chinese, Filipino Fans, all of them Yatzee White Supremacists which is not only absurd but reeks of absolute insanity to make such a claim. Add to that how you call Tolkien himself a Yatzee white supremacist when his own letters debunk your typical Baizuo Twatwaffle Globalist minion argument completely. And as others here have already told you Amazon has no need to tokenize/repaint white characters either as they could had set up their story in the POC lands of Harad and Rhun. But I suppose that you are the type that can only feel validated by repainting second hand slops white characters instead of original POC characters which is why we never get an actual kick@ss POC superhero like Static Shock and instead we get a repainted Clark Kent. Oh and I'm Puerto Rican so that race card of yours is not gonna fly with me.
@@Sutatu he was being sarcastict its a word ryan uses often on his channel andd also what nearly every nutjob with two braincells on twitter calls him,.
Exactly! Technically speaking you are right, and technically being right is the best kind! Tolkien never actually excluded it, so it definitely could have happened and thus SHOULD be depicted. That's how it works, right? As long as we add a Ring, a Dark Lord, a volcano and some people to face the adversity head on; that's the essence of the story, after all.
So true dude. My theory is Morgoth was busy developing them, but the Valar destroyed Angband before he could unleash them alongside his Dragons. Which makes you realize; Legolas was a fool for not bringing his trusty AK-47 along for the trip, what was he thinking merely bringing a bow? Tolkien never stated he didn't own one, so he must have had one. Probably just forgot it at home, then.
"It's not about making a good product or profit, it's about preaching a message" Probably the only reason this cycle is still going instead of.. you know, companies noticing the pattern that catering to an loud minority audience is not as profitable as catering to the IP's already present fans
And that's probably the case because some moneyed chimpanzees decided to start shelling out loads of cash to businesses that abide by their politics. However much they damage the franchises and actual profit of their creations, the wealthy interests backing them will keep them from falling entire until the reach their platforms provide shrinks below the investment and cost to maintain. It's a war between greed and soul, and the latter holds scant appeal to any deep in the realm of business.
Well the problem is that companies only care about what money they can make in the short term instead of the the long term. In other words, they would rather stir up controversy to boost day one sales instead of creating a sustainable franchise that would be profitable for years to come. Amazon isn't doing this to push a message or create political discourse, they're doing this to artificially inflate those initial numbers. You can tell that they don't care by simply asking, "Wait, wouldn't it more inclusive and progressive for the female dwarves to have beards? Wouldn't staying closer to the lore actually make the series more inclusive by having a bearded female character who wasn't just there to be a part of the freak show?"
Another thing about the beards. One can easily assume that most the people who would watch a series like "The Rings Of Power" would be those who have just seen the Peter Jackson Films (like myself). Rhetorical Question: Wasn't there a scene in the theatrical cut of Two Towers where Gimli explains a rumor that's going around there are no dwarf women because dwarf women look like dwarf men to which Aragorn points out it's because of the beards?
@@censored1080 Its also stated very clearly that there is no black or brown or yellow or orange ELVES, there is only white elves. This is confirmed by tolkien in the lotr lore.
They've done it to Star Trek, Star Wars and now LOTR. Nothing is sacred to these cultural vandals, you would of thought they would create new IP's so they could tell the stories they wanted to with the characters they wanted. No one would have a problem with that but it would require actual talent and imagination hence why they didn't do it.
I've said this before, but Rebecca Sugar created her own original characters and lore with Steven Universe and made it as woke as she wanted and it worked. Why? Because she created it! Why can't other woke weirdos follow her lead?
exactly. this all day. im not one of those wierdos, but ive been creating my own world in my head since i was a child. the imaginiation that ive found sharing it with others and hearing about thier own worlds is incredible. talent is everywhere. these people dont give a shit about it
LoTR, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, the Unfinished Tales… they make up the ultimate canon. It’s a single, self-contained, fully-realised entity. In this, it’s pretty unique and has influenced fantasy even more than classics such as The King of Elfland’s Daughter or The Sword in the Stone/The Once and Future King. It’s the last bastion against the petty-minded envy of those suffering histrionic personality disorder (I’m being polite) who are trying to pwn everything and push The Message. Sauron wanted to bring the whole world into Mordor, an ugly place without hopes or dreams. I’m sure he would be proud of these self-proclaimed captains.
Hey Man, great point as always. People were laughting at us (Poles) when Netflix butchered The Witcher and we got mad and talked about it. We were called ists etc. It's good to see that Amazon is getting so much backslash after trying to profanate something that is not mainly defended in one country, but probably the biggest Fantasy piece of art of all times. As a fan of Tolkien, my heart is just cannot be happier that this time, not only local fans unites against the evil!
If it makes you feel better I have seen a LOT of fans especially about season 2 say they didnt like how it went against the books. Ive not read them myself, but the fact I was meh on season 1 and watched the first episode of season 2 and still havnt finished any others. Tells you a lot about how i felt in general. I wanted a witcher show and ended up with the yennifer and the ciri.
@@disparutoo You are the boss. Yenn and Ciri are great characters, but they changed their personalities and made a pair of angry teenagers swearing all the time. That's exact example of how the industry is treating the source material this days... They "have a blueprint to make a circle and they are making a square of it..." Anyway, once again a great video. I'm waiting for more ✌️
"As long as the core is intact, then it's still the thing" Well by that logic, if the core of Super Mario games was "guy saves princess from big bad monster guy", then you could technically call the Legend of Zelda series as Mario but with a different title
Seriously, what the heck is that mean? "If the message survives, the meaning's the same?" / "If the burger reaches the customer, the relishes and the bun don't matter?" / "If an animal has no arms or legs, they are still capable as another animal?" That argument is meaningless with Tolkien because there is *no core* : it's just a history of a whole world.
The most important aspect of adapting any intellectual property for another medium is respecting its origins, lore and the intentions of its creator. No amount of dishonest and disingenuous hyperbole and rhetoric will ever change that.
Stuff like this is the running trend at the moment... Bastardise the source material and alienating the fanbase to get away with it... Just look what Paramount did to the Halo TV show.
“They don’t care about the truth anymore” This video is a textbook example on dissecting a bad faith and poorly argued pseudo intellectual argument. Advice to live by; stay on topic and utterly reject re-framing.
You know what’s funny about all this: the people in Hollywood who are defending this dumpster pile of a series are failing at the simplest marketing strategy that even those in an ordinary retail job knows which is don’t argue with the customer and don’t get defensive because that just causes the conflict to escalate
it’s because hollywood thinks it’s above all us plebs and we better just sit down and listen to their preaching and then applaud them about how amazing everything they do is.
Amazon is clearly signalling they no longer want any customers, which is fine. I'm more than happy to dump them for a younger, hungrier, more in touch with its customers business.
I have read the Silmarillion, The Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien, The Fall of Gondor, and am currently reading the Unfinished Tales. It is mentioned several times the color of the elves. Pale and white. Even the Easterlings called the elves white fiends. Some mortal men and women were called white fiends by them as well. And it's described how the Easterlings had dark skin and were a different race of men, while the other men were differing shades of Caucasian. Then I've been thinking a lot about cultures and diversity. I am not very good with my words, so I will try to explain it as best as I can. There are so many cultures out there that you can pick one and adapt it and there's your diversity. Find a story from Africa. Find a story from Brazil. But taking someone's culture and changing it to fit your agenda is extremely disrespectful and rude, and it can be racist. Like people have mentioned, taking the story of the Black Panther and making him and everyone else white. Or taking a story from Japan and changing all the characters to Africans. People claim they're being diverse by adding in nonwhite characters, but they're actually being disrespectful by instead of finding a culture and story and adapting it, they're destroying someone else's culture. There's a word I'm looking for, but I cannot think of what it is. I hope I explained this very well and did not come across offensive in any way.
Pretty much what they are doing with mass imm1gration, flooding the country out and then telling us we've all got to change our way of life to suit the newcomers. Major p1ss take and the main reason I'm against it.
So well said. Im from Skandinavia and after Vikings Valhalla I really feel they are disrespectful towards my culture and heritage, it feels like pure profit and like they have a political agenda and gives shit about my culture. There are so many stories out there who are waiting to being told. I would love to see some from Africa or where ever. And I would feel totally off if suddenly a white person appeared in those stories, I dont feel the need to see that, thats not why I would see the movie, it would be an insult agains my intelligence. I would have learned nothing new.
"Shall we make Sauron a vending machine?" I lost it at that point. Though I wouldn't mind seeing that AU relegated to some wacky, non-canon tale. The Vending Machine of the Rings.
Discovered you through your recent Amazon LOTR Rings of Power backlash content, and this video made me subscribe. Tolkien would be proud of you, I'm sure of it. I love your eloquence and your passion for Tolkien and his work. They may try to destroy his work, but we won't ever let them. 🙏
If they love their new character so much & wanting themselves in whatever colour they want, they just have to make their own story. Maybe people will like it more
What makes no sense is that these ordinary scriptwriters believe that their ideas should supersede those of a universally acknowledged literary genius. Does anyone at Amazon actually read the books that Amazon sells? They certainly haven't read Tolkien.
They will be changing the books one day to suit a diverse audience or banning them for not being diverse. Buy them now and pass them to future generations while you still can.
I like your take on this. It's accurate and I don't feel like you are injecting your own world view but rather just a great critical assessment. Well done chap!
If they think no one should care about Tolkien's opinion on his own creative work, then why are they surprised that they are returning the favor by not caring about theirs? It's very hypocritical.
I interpreted it as this: The only thing that is important is the theme, the fantasy aesthetics and good against evil with Sauron as evil personified, and the rest can be replaced to fit whatever narrative desired. The stories and background that Tolkien spent all his life fleshing out is totally meaningless. It comes from people who believe that you put your own meaning into stuff, reflecting your identity in the current state of the world.
Thank you for doing this. I respect what you said and whole handedly agree. If a story is written by someone, we need to respect the ideals those who wrote it wanted. You have gained a new follower from me as I appreciate this.
If the person who wrote the article had true intelligence they would have seen through their own incompetence and written about something they actually understood.
Your quickly becoming my favorite UA-camr! Awesome work again great breakdown about the framing and the use of language by them to attack or frame Tolkien fans in a bad light for wanting lore respected. Canon matters :)
Thank you, I thought it was interesting, it's amazing how much an issue spins just from the thicker concepts underneath the words used. It was also to explain previous videos.
Stefan Molyneaux explored the nature of Sauron's ring and made a good case that it embodied the power of sophistry. The article you reviewed is an attempt to channel Sauron's seductive might, and like Sauron it failed. Your presentation was an echo of all that was good in Numenor.
I get absolutely pissed every time someone says “Tolkien was against the Nazi’s, so he would be on our side,” equating everyone opposed to them to the most evil organization in recent history. It is the most despicable and disgusting thing you could use in an argument, and it instantly invalidates anything else they have to say if they are willing to stoop to that level.
From here on out, every time I hear the word “push the message” I’ll instinctively disparage and discourage that group of people and nominate the film “complete garbage.”
Personally, I think that the fans have perfectly understood the point that amazon are making.... theme > story - which is the wrong way around, hence the backlash.
One of my favorite shows, The Last Kingdom, an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s the Northmen series, appears to have fallen to this same woke phenomenon that is sweeping through entertainment. After 4 glorious seasons of early Dane sacked England, where all was as it should be, things have changed. My early British History professor thought so much of Mr Cornwell and his penchant for research, that he let me use one of Cornwell’s works as a secondary source on my term paper. Cornwell wrote historical fiction. In which all the events and such happened in the novels, with fictional characters inserted in and around the actual historical figures and events. Now, tell me if I’m wrong, but did they have sign language in 800 AD? Because now the writers of the show have realized that disabled people are the next great crusade. So now I get to read subtitles rather than listen to someone speak. Just as they did in externals. In addition, they’ve added a black priest. In 800 AD. How exactly did that come about? Why not a moor? Maybe because a moor in early England doesn’t really mesh with a story whose cultural divide is based largely off the clash of Christianity and paganism. Maybe an a inserted moor would be an interesting perspective on this clash of cultures. But they didn’t see that opportunity, and just jammed in characters of ethnicity for, well, their ethnicity alone. The Last Kingdom is the last show I thought would go this rout. It’s historical, with real events and real historical figures. Of early Britain. And Uhtred, is unabashedly male, quite the alpha and possessing all the toxic traits of masculinity that the Woke army loves to hate. But for all of his apparent irreverence to modern woke sensibilities, he was dead on what should expect of a man of his time period. But that doesn’t fit in within modernity. Never mind historical accuracy… There is an agenda to push through. I’ve waited so long for this season. And I barely got through the first episode before turning it off. The writing felt like they were winging it. Which they are, as it looks like they’ve completely abandoned Cornwell’s carefully researched books for pure fiction. This was the story of how England became united against the Danish threat. It was complex and nuanced. With not just decisive battles winning the day, but assimilation surpassing the sword. After 4 years of building to a carefully constructed crescendo, it has all been tossed aside because some Netflix writer thought they could write a better conclusion than Cornwell. Never mind if it has anything to do with the genuine history of England or not. They will improve upon it, by inserting disabilities and POC into a historically accurate story about early England. Tell me this, and I don’t mean to mock disabled people in the least, but how does a noble summon a deaf servant? And what noble takes the time to learn sign language? A language that wasnt even invented until the 18th century in Britain. So for all Cornwell’s attention to historical accuracy, they throw in this complete anachronism for the sake of representation. So I guess that makes me an ableist? Isn’t that the term for those who despise the disabled? Of course I don’t have anything against the disabled. What human can’t empathize? But again, this show was built on the foundation of history. Cornwell went to great extremes to toil or his fiction around that history probably when it would’ve been a lot more easy to just invent battles and events as plot devices. One more great series robbed from us by the woke army. I’ll probably sludge through the remaining episodes. If it doesn’t improve I’m canceling netflix. I’ve had enough.
I absolutely love how hardcore Disparu is going at this article and talking about the erasure of English and white culture due to the progressive agenda. I wholeheartedly agree with everything he’s saying in this video, and he isn’t even a LoTR fan! His thing is Wheel of Time! You go, buddy. Rip and tear until it is done.
He's not "talking about the erasure of English and white culture" he's talking about sticking with canon and the lore of the books. Simple as that. Don't try to re-frame his arguments to push an agenda. That does him a disservice.
@@Voldamares I’m not pushing any agenda; I don’t have an agenda to push. I’m just stating a fact. I understand that my statement in incorrect because technically Disparu is talking about respecting the canon (his channel’s goal is not really about discussing politics or the overall mainstream media that keeps doing this shit), but if you don’t think there’s an agenda that they are pushing where the end goal is non-white normalization, look at what they are doing to actual historical figures like Jarl Harkon; a Viking. Tolkien not only based his books off of English mythology, he wanted his books to be something of a replacement for some of the English mythology stories and English cultural art that was lost during the invasions. There are quotes of him talking about how he read stories from all kinds of cultures that were English-lite - Norway, Scottish, Irish, Scandinavian etc - but none were purely representative of 100% filtered English culture in its nature without any inside influences. I’m someone who believes that even if you could technically add non-white characters to LoTR by using the race of men to push diversity, nothing says that you need to or that you should. Why are some people so desperate for representation? Is it not possible to explore somebody else’s race and culture through a story like Tolkien’s and identify with or aspire to be like the characters in them without wanting them to be changed? What about stories that help you discover the purest essence of African culture and mythology because there are no outside influences from other cultures, including the appearance of characters that don’t resemble the skin color of that area during that time. Once you do that, it’s not truly African anymore, is it? It’s African with a splash of something else, something that did not originate in that culture . . . like white people. Besides, stories are supposed to be unlimited in the scopes of adventures and lore that they can tell, so I don’t believe it’s racist for an author with good intentions who doesn’t put any supremacist or fascist commentary into it to say they want to make a story with only white characters. They just want to show a particular perspective. And not everything needs representation because to anyone that says that, they are self-entitled since they cannot validate their existences without affirmation coming out of every orifice of society. To finish, there definitely is a bigger battle than just “respecting the lore”, even if Disparu is not the one explicitly fighting it. If there wasn’t some sort of message trying to imply that one group is good and the other is a bunch of bigots, then Disparu would be one of the few UA-camrs talking about this show. But we have had so many people come out and voice their opinions on this and other examples of erasure (because these double standards only happen one way and you would never see a white Black Panther or a white documentary called Everything’s Gonna Be All Black, because that’s clearly wrong to anyone with a brain) and this is because, quite frankly, the woke mob would rather have us unalive
@@Voldamares Also, we literally have people who are saying that segregation should come back but be applied to white people, and these are the same people that are running your franchises. Plus, you gotta ask yourself, “Why are they doing this?” We know that they are ruining our franchises, not respecting the lore, calling Tolkien and his works problematic and saying they need to be changed for “modern audiences”, but why? It’s a simply logical question to have. Why? There has to be a reason for all of this. And we know why. Stories/characters/historical people that involve straight white male themes or things that were made by straight white males = bad
Awesome once more my friend, well done. I truly believe at this point, many of these people have ZERO interest in Tolkien but possibly zero interest in the actual show as well. This is nothing more than click-bait to them. Professional media shillers have been doing it for years. It's like the misbehaving child, good attention, bad attention, doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is SOME sort of attention. I'd prefer, we not give it to them. I suspect this individual's "Twitter" channel just blew up after writing this and so, they sleep contentedly knowing they've become a "somebody". Ideally, they get lost inside the morass of their own ineptitude and without a "cause", end up working for Starbucks, like all the rest. :)
Watched the newest videos first, but man, you really nailed it with this one. Your closing statement was just the final nail to the coffin. Subscribed.
I like your style of presenting and commentary. I'm getting similar vibes to TheQuartering or The Critical Drinker. I would like to see more varied content on similar issues like this. Looks like the Rings of Power mess has helped your channel grow, that's how I found it and subscribed. Best wishes! :)
Varied content is certainly coming, I cover any topic I find interesting or funny. I couldn't ever be a one topic channel as I'd either run out of things to say or get bored doing it. Focusing on one topic for a longer period of time more comes from a lack of time to make multiple videos per day than anything else.
When you make a product for the public (as opposed to self-use) and they unanimously say that you made a mistake... then they are right. After all they are the audience.
They hate Tokkien, they hate the fandom, they hate the books, they hate, they hate, they hate. They are literally destroying every single work of beauty. All novels have to be rewritten, all expectations subverted, everything which is beautiful has to be destroyed. These fanatics are the modern day version of the bookburners and witch hunters.
From my point of view the media machine wants to shame those who dare to have a diffrent opinion into silence. Tolkien is worth something as a brand because of the Fans who are reading his books. Will it be worth without? I do doubt so. Please keep it up Disparu I am just sad about what is done to the Middle Earth Setting by not sticking to the written Lore that Amazon did pay such huge amounts to have the rights to use. This stupid tokenisation and social politics pandering is just tiresome: It dimishes the motivation to watch the show a lot. Will watch your upcoming vids, wont watch the Rings of Power show. Yet worse for Amazon this includes n o t buying merch and media either... Just think about what that means when more people will do the same.
One of my favorite, least favorite, bits of spin being regurgitated by the MSM is that Jeff Bezos is a huge Tolkien fan, but we know from the word about the big meeting at Amazon that launched them in this direction that he was not asking for Lord of the Rings but for his Game of Thrones. They simply put up the money for licensing to distinguish themselves from the pack.
It's getting worse everyday. I can't deal with this. My brain is just not getting it. Why do we need to rewrite a very beloved lore and world just to make some angry people on Twitter happy? I really don't get it. I'm just sad and confused.
There is no logic because its propaganda. Its anti european propaganda with an aim to destroy cultural impact of cinema on communist country's like China. And to create a fake narrative of racism in order to create a further conflict where people are framed as being racist and then justify actions against these populations as demonstrated in ukraine for example. Where the narrative is being formed of a group of nazi's being the enemy. This is no different and its been a longstanding tactic of pushing fake narratives and propaganda to make it seem like european and american country's are riddled with internal strife over racism and its colonial imperialistic racist past. Do you understand it now? :)
What you said but also the following: FEMINIST PROPAGANDA HAS EXACTLY THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS AS NAZISM. Feminist propaganda was an excellent tool in the hands of Goebbels. The majority of those who voted for Hitler's National Socialist German party were women. Many feminists actively helped Hitler. For example Violette Morris, who was a feminist lesbian athlete who dressed as a man since 1930. And that she had been invited by Hitler to attend the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin with him. And that she worked methodically as a spy for the Gestapo. Or Rotha Lintorn-Orman. Another lesbian feminist who founded the group that later became the British Fascist Party. Like her lover, suffragette Mary Sophia Allen, who was proud to have met Hitler and Mussolini in person. Or Mary Richardson also suffragette. Which, among other things, led the British Fascist party. In which, as she had said, she saw "the courage, the action and the faith she had known in the suffragette movement". Many of the party's supporters were suffragettes.
The argument of this writer reminds me of the crappy shows on History Channel where you hear arguments like "There are no records that the first Thanksgiving was not haunted or visited by aliens. Yes. South Park did a piece on that but i think that is the arguments you hear from these Amazon shills. - Tolkien wrote that elves were fair skinned every now and then but he didn't write it every time elves were mentioned and he never wrote that black elves didn't exist. If you write a book you need yo tell a story and you can't write a book that consists of everything that wasn't in it or how things did not look.
Well, if they can do it with Anne Boleyn (who is an actual historical figure) then of course they can do it with fictional characters ( sarcasm). Descriptions in books/stories are there for a reason: to let the reader VISUALISE the character or the settings. I remember seeing an adaptation of Jane Eyre once, and one of the characters had black hair and a white dress (succinct recap of the description in the book). When she appeared in the film I didn't know it this because "someone" had decided to give her blonde hair and a different colour dress. It was only when her name was uttered that I realised who it was. It's only a small gripe but enough to annoy me. Of course, those who haven't read the book wouldn't know, but stil.
Thanks for being coherent and sensible in your challenges to these "puff pieces". They are lazy, racist and "subvertist" at their core. Slinging mud at everyone else because they can't/won't respect cannon is just standard practice for film/shows at the moment. I look forward to the day, when they have the balls to turn around and at least say, we're updating it and this is our interpretation of it. Enjoy it, or not, and the show survives if people actually like your interpretation. Sadly they invest so much money, any chance of failure has to be blamed on the fans and not the directors/firms who are (repeatedly) producing bad stories.
Films used to be about immersing yourself in a dream world, it was about entertainment, human development, great pictures, good actors, a gripping story. Obviously, this series ,like others ,will be only about presenting as many supposedly underprivileged fringe groups as possible no matter if they trashing the story , the lore and for the future , the brand ...to which Tolkien has dedicated his life . the article of this woke guy is so poor . ... i'm getting mad.
I just think it's funny that a guy from China writes an English article where he claims to understand Tolkein more than the the people Tolkein wrote for. It's amazing
Good work, Disparu. Keep it up. Those of us with decades of life experience can give the sage advice to the poor shill who wrote that opinion: when pointing a finger at someone/something, remember 3 fingers are pointing back at yourself.
These so called "scholars" act like they know more about the IP compared to people who read it hundreds (even thousand) of times and dedicated most of their time to it. They (the scholars) turned out to be people for propaganda to destroy Tolkien's work and gets angry after getting called out of their wrong and makes themselves as clowns instead. And I also noticed some forums dedicated to the lore (before) are now turning sideways, suddenly changing their contents to support the new show (in a sense). Amazon (Ring of Power), Netflix (Viking) and then the female Robin from CW.. These studios with their wokeness are now disregarding what the word "canon", making up their own characters and stories and then want to make people accept it as canon. Regarding their defense on "changing characters but maintaining the plot". Alright then, lets just put terminators and the justice league in there but still about the rise and fall of Sauron, that would still make sense and still be "CANON". What a f*cking mess they are.
4:42-5:13 Also, all of those people are from ALL over the world. This is way beyond USA bubble. Btw don't be shy to upload longer vidoes! Especially on LOTR!
As I commented on a Nerdrotic video: Good fiction not only has a good story, it also has a consistent, established lore. You can't just change the rules from one book/story/movie/episode to the next without confusing people and making them hate your work. You have to have a reason that narratively works within the established lore to make changes. Particularly big ones. Just because a setting is fantasy doesn't make it ok to randomly change things. Especially when you're dealing with a property like Middle Earth, which has a lore that is probably the deepest and most well-documented of any fantasy property ever. Even fantasy worlds have rules. And sure, you could build a world where there are no rules, but I doubt you'd find anybody who really wants to read/watch it. Tropes are tropes for a reason, and if you want to subvert them, you better have a damned good replacement that makes sense within that world. And where RoP is set before LotR, it has additional restraints it should be working within, because it's partially dealing with characters with established personalities, looks, and histories that have been both alluded to and flat-out stated in other works, and fantasy races Tolkien did describe (regardless of what the "experts" and "scholars" are saying). Fans aren't pissed because there are black elves and dwarfs. Fans are pissed because it doesn't make any sense within Middle Earth's lore.
The constraints also come from it being a prequel to things we've already seen. Which I suppose they could also have the rights to and plan to do, and make consistent with whatever their racially leveled-up vision actually is... but if so, they are going about that in the dumbest way possible because there aren't enough Elves or Dwarves in LotR to diversify that part of the cast.
hahaha loved that part : Since its not canon you might call this fan fiction and basically you aint a fan so its just fiction''. That describe Amazon's LOTR so good!
So as a show concept Amazon made the decision to concentrate on what Tolkien HAD NOT written and chose to ignore what he DID. Anyone sees any possible problems with that? Not Amazon appearently... Here a quote to sum this up quite nicely: "As Albert Einstein once said to me: “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity.” But what is much more widespread than the actual stupidity is the playing stupid, turning off your ear, not listening, not seeing." Frederick S. Pearls 1969 in “Gestalt Therapy Verbatim”
I mean s*** why not put them in cars and give them guns if you're going to go against Cannon/lore and the author, if you're going to completely fuk it up do it right don't half-ass it ..I now hate Amazon as much as I hate Disney
Yeah we all collectively came to Bash and s*** on Amazon Lord of the Rings and luckily enough there is a unified statement that we all could make to get our point across
I maintain that Amazon dropped the ball significantly on this. There are other peoples & nations of Middle Earth that are, comparatively, lightly touched on by Tolkien, like the Haradrim. But instead of bringing in characters and stories from them, and perhaps changing them from "evil men" as shown in the Jackson movies, they decided to ham fist their own characters into the spotlight. It's the sign that they can't write anything marketable of their own, so they have to piggy back off an established franchise.
They think Frodo, Sam and Sauron are the main focus and nothing else matters. What about Gandalf who got Bilbo off of his butt to go have an adventure? What about Aragorn who was an heir and ended up becoming king? Every character was essential to the story. These people are utterly ridiculous. And they said canon is indispensable???? They're crazy. They know nothing
Shall we take the initiative and release a Nelson Mandela biopic in which Mandela is portrayed by a Swedish woman? Or a movie about a famous African Queen portrayed by a Welsh man? I'm not racist (I'm a pluralistic, rational, cosmopolitan), I'm just saying, the many of us who find gender and race swapping utterly distasteful and disrespectful, could move from pure reaction to initiative and do a few ridiculous swaps of our own to highlight the need to collectively move beyond over genderifying and racializing everything.
hi I'm new to this channel so far I really like your content keep up the good work I hope your channel grows I find you engaging and intelligent and I really have liked a lot of your videos so far so I just want to say keep up the good work man
Like I've said before... I don't care that they cast a Black Actress as the Beardless Dwarf Queen... I dislike that they are adding in a Beardless Dwarf Queen. Dwarves in Middle Earth have beards and they don't have Queens. Now it does strain credulity to have a black skinned person from a subterranean species.. but then I don't usually credit the people who run these shows with much intellect or schooling of substance. They have yet to prove me wrong.
I wonder what was in the showrunners' heads, thinking that they could get away with a travesty like this. Clearly, they picked the wrong fandom to mess with, and it's going to cost them dearly.
no, it won't. there are 148.6 million Prime subscribers and Amazon raised the price by $2 at the start of this month. if they all stay, Amazon will make an extra $297.2 million a month til September when this comes out. more money than they spent on this failed investment and no cost to be paid except by the rubes still subscribed to Prime and literally paying for this sort of stuff to continue. turns out, they'll make their money back one way or another by simply passing costs onto consumers. capitalism, baby.
When you have never experienced criticism and have been awarded for every act, regardless of effort, simply cannot fathom something they did as not being the ideal.
Ha yes that's Nerdrotics name for them :D It's a shame because I used to love Alias (Its where my name came from, Section Disparu 6 -SD6), and his mission impossible movie. But wow have the time changed. Last 5 years made a lot of people lose talent it seems.
It's an epic mythos, clearly inspired by Germanic, Celtic, northern and Indo-European legends, myths and folklore. It was intrinsically intended to resemble English folk, Scythian, Germanic and Celtic heritage and Scandinavian tales. Hence it is a European-Indo-European inspired canon. Period. It's not about race or tolerance or weather they lie or change or add to the story or weather this or that character did or didn't exist in the world that Tolkien created. It's about parasites trying to live off the legacy of their host. And we are the healthy immune system.
I suspect when this show comes out criticism is going to explode , a lot of folk feel its only reasonable to criticise , once you've seen it, I disagree but get thier point
Thoroughly enjoyed your analysis and approach. Found you through Nerdrotic, FNT and Geeks & Gamers, and subscribed.
Great points by Disparu especially the one about them trying on several opinions/arguments like masks to se if one might work.

Everyone who's a member of any of the races of Men is outraged by it. Personally, I'm a rather tall dwarf, and I find the entire thing offensive.

No adaption there man. La vergüenza es que no es una adaptación y la venden como tal.
The people behind the show are politically motivated , they should be opposed and exposed , keep up the good work

@CanisMalus
Do you realize that Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings is the 3rd most sold book in the world and that it has been translated to over 40 languages and thus Tolkien fans are from all over the world and in all the skin colors.

It's not lies when everyone knows these are lies. It's gaslighting.
Just because it was never written that Hobbits flew a rocket ship into space doesn't mean it didn't happen.
We have no proof that unicorns don't exist, therefore they exist 🙃
It was never written that they didn’t have tanks in lotr so they should have tanks
It was never written there was or wasn’t a Amazon corporation, so it could exist!
"It's not about making a good product or profit, it's about preaching a message"
Probably the only reason this cycle is still going instead of.. you know, companies noticing the pattern that catering to an loud minority audience is not as profitable as catering to the IP's already present fans
It's also because of ESG score, basically Blackrock and Vanguard assigning a woke score to a company and allocating investments accordingly.
Not to mention Dr. Who, The Wheel of Time and (less known but still) The Equalizer.
I've said this before, but Rebecca Sugar created her own original characters and lore with Steven Universe and made it as woke as she wanted and it worked. Why? Because she created it! Why can't other woke weirdos follow her lead?

"As long as the core is intact, then it's still the thing"
Well by that logic, if the core of Super Mario games was "guy saves princess from big bad monster guy", then you could technically call the Legend of Zelda series as Mario but with a different title
in before Nintendo makes a Zelda styled Mario game and sues you for having the idea first.
Twitter retards don’t like super mario bros. They believe the princesses could save herself. I’m not kidding.
No amount of dishonest and disingenuous hyperbole and rhetoric will ever change that.
this is why the film trilogy was so successful because it stayed true to the lore to the best of their abilities. peter jackson said so himself.
Stuff like this is the running trend at the moment...
Bastardise the source material and alienating the fanbase to get away with it...
Just look what Paramount did to the Halo TV show.

Its far more than that. Its state backed propaganda. Wich is actually very obvious and funny.
Yup. It also means rejecting their attempts at changing the meaning of words or seeing their usage of certain words as projection.
I feel there plenty of natural diversity if they really wanted to. That would require some thought and effort rho
Great point on the "white fiends", I completely forgot about that!
And I agree on everything else, I've made those very points myself.
The word you are looking for is ignorance.
"Shall we make Sauron a vending machine?"
I lost it at that point.
Though I wouldn't mind seeing that AU relegated to some wacky, non-canon tale.
The Vending Machine of the Rings.
She-Ra and the Rings of Power
sauron vending machine would definitely be one of those where everything you buy gets stuck on the edge.
Logic is such a pesky thing. Redefining words does not win an argument. Keep dropping the hammer on these so called "scholars".
Another cracking video Disparu! Genius mate!
"The people who are actually fans wanted LOTR"
So freaking true! Keep up the good work, Disparu!!
The Rings Of Snoresville is doomed for failure from the very start
I get absolutely pissed every time someone says “Tolkien was against the Nazi’s, so he would be on our side,” equating everyone opposed to them to the most evil organization in recent history. It is the most despicable and disgusting thing you could use in an argument, and it instantly invalidates anything else they have to say if they are willing to stoop to that level.
That's the only weapon they have.

Never mind historical accuracy…
There is an agenda to push through.
I'm so glad I found this channel.
@@Voldamares Tolkien's lore was written to make a mythology of English (i.e. white) culture. But 'white' has become a bad word.

Subscribed.
I am SO glad I found this channel. Excellent!
Thank you for the kind words & for watching. I'm glad you're here :)
I just clicked this not realizing it was from season 1 and was like wow great haircut!
Disparu is one of the best! A true savant of the medium
Please keep it up Disparu
I am just sad about what is done to the Middle Earth Setting by not sticking to the written Lore that Amazon did pay such huge amounts to have the rights to use.
In letter 131 Tolkien specifically states that his mythology is for England.
It's almost like cynical elites exacerbate racial tensions to profit from it
Well said, very well done, seriously excellent work.
What you said but also the following:
FEMINIST PROPAGANDA HAS EXACTLY THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS AS NAZISM.
If you write a book you need yo tell a story and you can't write a book that consists of everything that wasn't in it or how things did not look.
i love man!!! you almost express the amount of anger we feel:)
"Unanimous" and yet they call them bitter. That's one hell of mental gymnastics.
Really good deconstruction, mate. Keep up the good work!
Needs the 'Yes (prime) minister' bit about how only the meeting notes are truth. But nicely done!
Haha you're not the first person to bring up yes primeminister in the comments today either. Great show.
@@disparutoo GMTA ;)
I just think it's funny that a guy from China writes an English article where he claims to understand Tolkein more than the the people Tolkein wrote for. It's amazing
Good work, Disparu. Keep it up. Those of us with decades of life experience can give the sage advice to the poor shill who wrote that opinion: when pointing a finger at someone/something, remember 3 fingers are pointing back at yourself.
These so called "scholars" act like they know more about the IP compared to people who read it hundreds (even thousand) of times and dedicated most of their time to it.
They (the scholars) turned out to be people for propaganda to destroy Tolkien's work and gets
angry after getting called out of their wrong and makes themselves as clowns instead.
Why do I get the feeling that the person that wrote this article has a degree in gender studies.
Stunning & Brave
It's getting so bad, people can tell where you stand on a political level by the way to write. SMH😒
The gloves are off! And it's beautiful. Keep going, Disparu.
Lol thank you, I'll continue as long as I have stuff to say.
Amazon could solve this whole thing if they just change the title to "Amazon's fanfiction Lord of the Rings"
They are going to write over an extremely important moral message that Tolkien was expressing through fantasy.
They have no morals.
Bad, pretentious writing by students? I'm shocked.
To be fair, the fashionable writing and reasoning of the 'scholars' they keep trotting out aren't much better.
4:42-5:13
Also, all of those people are from ALL over the world. This is way beyond USA bubble.
Btw don't be shy to upload longer vidoes! Especially on LOTR!
Flat out creative theft.
Anti-Fan Fiction
Disparu , The Jeremy Clarkson of Nerdom ;) lol :)
Dude you had the absolute best take on this.
As I commented on a Nerdrotic video:
Good fiction not only has a good story, it also has a consistent, established lore.
Here a quote to sum this up quite nicely:
"As Albert Einstein once said to me: “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity.” But what is much more widespread than the actual stupidity is the playing stupid, turning off your ear, not listening, not seeing." Frederick S.
Disparu = LOTR Pop Culture Analyst/Gangsta
I maintain that Amazon dropped the ball significantly on this. There are other peoples & nations of Middle Earth that are, comparatively, lightly touched on by Tolkien, like the Haradrim. But instead of bringing in characters and stories from them, and perhaps changing them from "evil men" as shown in the Jackson movies, they decided to ham fist their own characters into the spotlight. It's the sign that they can't write anything marketable of their own, so they have to piggy back off an established franchise.
What a Surprise, Such Persons lie about something that don't would help them. Never except something like that.
"Did you read the book Magician from Raymond E. Feist??? its important"
I'm not sure if this is a question to me as it's in quotes. But no I havn't.
They already make anne Boleyn a black woman, literally a historical figure with clear description yet they manage to race swapping her.
I canceled my 2 Prime subscriptions and deleted my Amazon account...
When they ask why.. "the rings of power"
hi I'm new to this channel so far I really like your content keep up the good work I hope your channel grows I find you engaging and intelligent and I really have liked a lot of your videos so far so I just want to say keep up the good work man
Another incredible video! Well done!
Yup. The desperation is very strong.
LOTR does it again - uniting fans. You Sir just earned your self one greasy French toast loving American subscriber!
“When I think of college I just remember being on my knees”
You can stop there 🤣😉 haha
"Thank you sir! May I have another?!"😁😁 [Animal House (1978) reference]
@@TaddiestMason So what would YOU like to do? Behead Jeff Bezos?
I am so proud of this community. Some things should stay as they are. This is European culture and philosophy, I don’t see the point to change it
Yes Amazon should listen to it's audience.
The clue is in the name they're called BAD REBOOT for a reason!
Ha yes that's Nerdrotics name for them :D It's a shame because I used to love Alias (Its where my name came from, Section Disparu 6 -SD6), and his mission impossible movie.
But wow have the time changed. Last 5 years made a lot of people lose talent it seems.
@@disparutoo I remember that series too!
Was surprised to find them linked to so many franchises that fell to this malarchey
The last 5 minutes -- absolutely SAVAGE 👊💀🍻🚬
He does not understand the meaning of backlash. Its not our job to be tolerant.
I suspect when this show comes out criticism is going to explode , a lot of folk feel its only reasonable to criticise , once you've seen it, I disagree but get thier point
Let's go disparu.
Its emotive conjugation, present facts and arguments, but torture them and distort them to instil a sense of ridicule towards said dissidents.
I'm waiting for them to assign a "-gate" word to this whole affair that they can throw around for the next decade as a boogeyman.
I would say "Thorins gate" but they probably wouldn't get it. 😅
