If This Guitar Comes to the USA, There Could Be TROUBLE! | HEX W300 Review + Demo
HEX reached out to me to ask if I could make an honest review of their product to help attract a USA dealer to stock their products. If this would really retail at $400 USD, I think they could have some success - the neck specs are incredible at that price!

For the price, the Hex does appear to have good overall specs. But so does Harley Benton, and they have a lot more options, and will now ship directly to the US. I’m no HB fanboy, but I did try one of their Fusion series guitars, and I was quite impressed.
The Hex doesn’t do much for me aesthetically, but it’s not hideous. The light weight will be great for a lot of people.
What I dislike is the lack of an apparent serial number, not any indication of the actual factory in which the guitar is manufactured.
Regarding the discrepancy in relative pickup output, I always advise to spend a decent amount of time adjusting pickup heights and pole pieces before swapping pickups. Often, a LOT can be accomplished with a simple screwdriver and a bit of patience.

8:34 not impressed by those tooling marks on the edge of the fretboard. For a second I wondered whether the fretboard was cracked at the 1st fret. Not shabby overall, it’s competing with higher-end Harley Benton models like the Fusion III.

Eastman and Shijie prove that generalisations don't work.
We choose to import models made to a fixed budget from many countries, and leap to the conclusion that's as good as they can do. All of those countries will have the same diverse range of domestic brands from mass produced cheap shit up to mid range and all the way up to low volume master crafted artisans producing custom shop quality. Don't judge their range of brands solely by the subset we choose to import.

But there is a difference. Hint - it's not just about the sound, it's also about the feel and how much nuance you can command with your technique. More advanced players will favor the premium pups every time.

Interesting guitar with good specs. Some design suggestions: The forearm carve should to be shifted forward by about 3 inches towards the waist, as in its current position and shape, the pointy end is likely to get in the way when the picking hand reaches over the fingerboard for techniques like tapping, etc. The headstock looks a bit blocky, but would look more elegant if the treble side was angled inward towards the high e-string tuner by about .5-1.0 inch.

Man, I just may purchase one to mess with, ream it out, put another pickup in it so it has three! and grind off some paint to see what it's really made of! I kind of liked the tonality of it. Not too shabby, as I play all kinds of music and do a lot of electronic fingerstyle picking, Like PF, Led Zep, Tommy E. Jazz and old Rock and Roll. I love the new renaissance we are seeing in the guitar industry- where companies like harley benton or kramer, even the squiers' at $400- they are are making good sounding instruments more easily available to the public. It is funny how hard it is to get some of the cheap gear actually from a distributor in the states. But I LOVED my HB tele and am looking forward to getting the HB jazzmaster next.

It looked as if the arm cutaway ended sharply right where your arm and wrist sit. Especially if you strap-hang it with the neck tilted up steeply. That is a great looking cutaway but form should follow function, it may need to extend further around the body so you can pick halfway up the neck or near the bridge with free access. Although if that nice Mr Trogly said the bridge height adjust screws poked him, his wrist and arm may have floated well above the cutaway. Especially with the deep rear body cut, the arm cutaway might be for appearance only in practice. What about it Mr T did the arm cut bother you? Although you were picking above the bridge pickup pretty exclusively in most of the footage.

That headstock ain’t that bad. I build guitars and designing headstock’s is by far the hardest bit. Bodies have to be a certain shape to fit with your body, to get good neck access etc but headstocks can be any shape as long as the tuners fit. Trouble is, if you stray too far from the norm, they just look wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️

strap placement button. the horn is a terrible place for the strapholder. it forces the fretboard to angle up at your face, decreasing the stretch of your hand and increasing carpal tunnel injuries. the best spot for the button is where the headstock meets the body. i do this to all my guitars. it makes the fingerboard stand perpendicular to the ground, which makes it easier to do wide stretches without injuring your wrist. allan holdsworth does this to all of his strat shaped guitars, look at any picture of him playing one...

It’s a great looking guitar. The sounds are more towards the hard rock/metal crowd but with the look i doubt you would find it in the hands of someone playing blues or jazz anyways, maybe pop music. It could benefit from having a Floyd rose term system but i think that would raise the price a bit and they’re trying to stay competitive. All in all a solid guitar for the price and with 24 frets (two octaves) as an owner of a Brian May red special, i cannot begin to tell you how much better those extra frets are.
