A kid in 1986 gave me a Maxell cassette. 90min. Side 1 was Breakfast in the Field. Side 2 Aerial Boundaries. I still can't believe how Michael composed on guitar. Out of deep respect for his work, I've purposely avoided learning any of it. I want to still be transported to that first press of the "play" button and hear "Layover" in an unadulterated state. The Hendrix of the acoustic guitar. His arrangements and vocals are stellar too. Thank you Randy for preserving this for future generations
Amazing piece of music! Miss this man so much! "Layover" always sounded to me like a "perfect" song! So many moods. So powerful! So soothing! So entrancing! I don't believe there's ever been a more powerful acoustic guitar player!
So wonderful that Michael Hedges committed this song to video and so great that you, Randy, have shared it here! Thank you, Randy, and thank you to you too, Michael, wherever you are now
Michael was such a wonderful soul. Getting to have this video is such a treat. Even moreso seeing the way his eyes and body language react to his own music. My favorite part is the phone call, prefectly timed and fit into the piece
Learning this right now! What a great learning tool along with John Stropes' Rythym, Sonority, Silence tab book. Micheal was the best, and thanks for the upload Randy! Cheers
I forget which guitar magazine (“Acoustic Guitar” perhaps) I picked up circa 1988 with the Tablature for this song and Michael on the cover... I was introduced to his music when I was in high school and was an immediate fan, saw him perform twice and learned 5 of his songs. I can almost imagine this was the video used to spell out the tab in that magazine. Miss you Michael!
That's interesting. Voicings are funny that way and maybe I detect that more than I'd like to admit. It's so dense though. The story although very well might be something Ol' Neil can say.
