Damn, this is the best hospital vlog I've ever seen. I always enjoy watching med students study, but hospital vlogs are just awful in general cause there's not much you're allowed to film. But the videos you placed in to suggest your tasks for the day really did the trick for me, good job! Also, getting in some productive time in the morning, that's some highly appreciated inspiration for me as I try to do the same. Hope to see more of these vlogs!
If you're worried about Alzheimer's you might want to reconsider all the sleep you're sacrificing in the name of 'productivity'. Full, regular and consistent sleep is essential to your health - don't skip out on it, you'll just pay for it later 👍🏻.
Okay, your random commentaries about your colleagues finding you weird is everything 😂😂 You put a lot of thought and energy into filming and editing this video- which makes it calming (in a weird way) whilst watching. Would definitely love to see a day in the life part 2! 👏👏
I love seeing these videos because your an inspiration. People like to see how a doctor goes through a day and any tips you may offer. Thanks for the truly awesome content.
Excellent day-in-the-life video, Ali. Fun and informative glimpse into your life, the life of doctors, Cambridge lecturers and even life in the UK. Thanks so much for posting. Really well done.
I absolutely enjoyed this video. You have been motivating me to study in various ways. I am very grateful for this channel and the motivation it’s providing me for my future (hopefully) as a doctor. :)
Great video, love your content! I think content about the more “dark side” of your experience as a student/doctor would be great. For example the stress and unseen side of what you go through and how we all could cope better and handle being a better student without giving up. Many of us are in school and it gets harder and harder to finish and not get worn out from school/work. We would like to see that kind of experience from you to relate to. Thank you!
Don't you like seeing someone having a good life? Some people just gave better lives. It is not that they work less harder, but their situation is much better.
I gotta say, life as a junior doctor in the UK is so so much better, with loads of free time! As a junior doctor in my country, arriving at 7am is already considered a grave crime, & there's literally no break or free time, we work straight all the way till 10pm
@Ali - Everything aside, I think you're an insanely productive man. Your chill time, would sort of be my peak productivity. Time you start a series on general productivity hacks! Keep up the great work. :)
TWO CALLS IN A ROW?! WOAH steady on the buddy don't overwork yourself. Poor psychiatrists with their unmanageable workloads. And lol at cardiology putting you to sleep. Same man, same.
Wonderful video, I like how it is authentic (at least it seems like it is), not one of those unrealistic day in the life videos. Also very informative, we can really see what can be done in a day if we focus. Would love to see more of these.
loved how while you were studying you showed us real-time footage of what was on your laptop. Always just watch videos of med students staring at a screen, not knowing what they're looking at
Loved this video! As a medical student to be, this is one of the very few sources of information that I can use to get better insight of the realities of being in the medical profession. 👩🏻⚕️
I recommend this book, The End of Alzheimer's: The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline, by Dale Bredeson, MD. It was a great read about his findings and patient experiences.
I may be watching videos in the wrong order... but seeing you classify "chill time" as watching a documentary about the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's more fully explains your misuse of the word "vacation" when describing your work day in the Canary Islands. I'm also comforted by the fact that someone else finds documentaries as enjoyable as I do. Thank you for the introduction to Curiosity Stream. I've discovered my local cable television company provides a complimentary subscription. WOOOHOO!
This is inspiring/amazing how passionate you are towards all of this. Honestly don’t think I’ve even met someone as passionate about their subject as much as you are.
If there is one profession I admire it's the one of a doctor. Idk why but it's super impressive and requires such a tremendous effort. And at the end it's a great opportunity to help people. Honestly it's definitely not a profession for me but absolutely admirable
I was very suprised that you didn't do much actual work as a doctor. I would have anticipated, that you would be slogging through task after task the whole time, but you manage to play ping-pong and study for school.
Medical rotations vary a lot in how busy you are. He's on psychiatry which is generally a more chill rotation, especially for juniors. I'm on surgery at the moment and lunch break is grabbed when you can, usually 20-30 mins, and I'll be doing job after job. I usually have to stay at least half an hour late to get it all done. Whereas the job I did before this, haematology, I'd often have free time in the afternoon.
Yes, I can't believe it, both my favorite creators - PaigeY and now Ali too - upload a video this evening, this day can't get better , I had been waiting for so long 😍📚❤️😭🤩🤩🤩 update: greetings from Latvia ❤️🇱🇻
Hi Ali! Thanks for the video. I'm a final year medic and this really helps me understand what a weekend shift looks like! I really enjoyed the video and would love to watch more of these :)
This was an awesome video. Would love to see one on your diet and exercise routine and how being a doctor affects this, like should you be taking supplements or are they useless
Fair play, this was so informative in so many ways. I decided to have a break from marking English papers and stumbled onto this motivational nugget ! Keep up the seriously good work! Great channel.

I’ve felt crappy in and off for years, had every test under the sun kind of and multiple times too, eventually after feeling strange recently and having little to no energy and having weird feeling legs and after requesting a vitamin d test it turns out in fact while there is “nothing wrong with me” I have a vitamin d Deficiency and my level was 18 which apparently is extremely low, after taking the vitamin d I feel lots better, however after missing a few doses here and there feel rubbish again, the hospital and Dr prescribed Vit D but online it says you must take with K2 and magnesium, for some strange reason I cannot tolerate magnesium and it makes me feel all tingly and strange and then when I stop taking even more fatigued, I don’t smoke I drink only on the weekend and I walk everyday, at this point I am just venting, I guess my question is why do I feel weird, like my bones are poisoned and strange feeling like a horrible feeling throughout the body that is not always present, I’ve been years without the feeling but whenever I am feeling like this it returns, feels bad man! Anyway am big fan of your vids not just here to tell about my own feelings
Vitamin D helps improve the absorption of calcium, and generally must be synthesized from cholesterol with the help of UVlight/sunlight; you skip this step when you take a pill. Vitamin D deficiency is extremely common, even in people who work only 5-8 hours inside and not "all-day", depending on melanin skin levels and ethnicity. Calcium plays a major role in bone strength, which means vitamin D (by absorbing more calcium from your food) indirectly helps make your bones stronger. Vitamin D doesn't require any magnesium or vitamin K to be absorbed, but rather those are supplemental minerals and vitamins to help further strengthen your bones. Getting 15-30min outside is sufficient vitamin D production for most people, but 2000-4000 (sometimes up to 6000) units/day is generally considered "safe"; your doctor may prescribe something more like 20,000-50,000 to help get you out of a slump. HOWEVER, vitamin D levels should be between 20-50, so 18 is low but not deficient - you don't really start seeing symptoms until you hit single digits 1-10. Magnesium is an inducer (turns on) of GABA, which is a chemical in your brain which makes you sleepy, slows down your heart rate, makes you feel a bit weak or dizzy, and generally just fatigued; it is considered an "inhibitory" chemical, and is sometimes even found in sleeping pills. This might be why you feel a bit weird with it! It can help strengthen your bones even further with the help of calcium. Vitamin K is almost never low, because it is so commonly found in the food most people eat, especially in dark leafy greens (spinach, kale, etc.), beans/legumes, oranges, potatoes, and so many more. Vitamin K helps regulate clotting factors for when you bleed, and helps puts the calcium in your blood into your bones and cells. The most common reason for low energy is low blood sugar, so make you're your eating your 3 meals (or 6 small meals) per day of healthy greens, fruits, breads, proteins, and dairy. If you don't exercise, I also highly recommend it! It can really help boost your energy levels by increasing muscle mass and releasing some feel-good endorphins; at least 30min 5 days per week is what the AHA recommends, or 1.5hours / week. Don't trust everything you read online, make sure you're always getting a checkup once a year, always include all of the vitamins and over-the-counter meds (pills from wallgreens like aspirin, anti cold meds, etc.), talk to your doctor about anything and everything you're feeling (both physically and emotionally), and I hope you feel better and get to the bottom of it!
