  • I built this clothes dryer last spring. The actual dryer was given to me from a appliance repair shop 4 free!!! No it's not pretty it's functional.
    The Dryer was going to be to hard to get it out of its corner in the greenhouse. So I removed the window that's behind it.
    It has No Heating Element! We use the heat of the greenhouse to dry the clothes. I remodeled the heater housing to draw the heat from the roof of the greenhouse. I rewired the dryer to 120v. We use our solar power to spin the tub...
    Great money saving hack. My solar guy i buy panels from, cant believe i got this working. we wash and dry using solar power!

    That’s an awesome idea! Doesn’t matter if it isn’t pretty if it’s free and works. - Alex

    There was a video about using attic air in a dryer but I can't find it anymore. I think it was the Missouri wind and solar channel so I don't know why they would remove good content. Greenhouse air is also a good idea.

      I watched Missouri wind & solar before... They had some good ideas! I was trying to run as much off solar power as possible, & this help to cut my electricity bill!

    Very cool, are most dyer motors 110, or do you have to rewire them ?

      Most of the older dryers are wired for 220/240 because of the heating element & timer. The motor that turns the drum is 110/120. So i disabled the heating element, rewired the dryer with a 110 plug with ground.Grounded the frame.. Turn the timer on. It doesn't count down but still enables the electric motor...Start it with the start button, Cut it off with the door, or turning timer to off...thanks

      @@TheSwaffordHomestead thanks man. I have an old dryer I've wanted to try this with. The dryer is the most power hungry device there is, after the water heater. My bill has almost doubled since our latest fearful leader was " elected ", lol. Looking for ways to cut costs. Have been using the primeval solar dyer, the clothes line for years. But clothes come out stiff and covered in lint.

      @@markjohnson9402 we used both. The dryer works good on clothes like shirts, thinner made clothes. It takes awhile, but it's not killing the electric bill! Bluejeans Heavy towels are hard to dry. Heavy clothes & towels, I used the dryer to start the drying process when our clothes line is full...

    So you just recirculate the hot air through the dryer so you never have to produce the energy to run the heater? That's a neat idea but how do you dry clothes in the winter?

    • @TheSwaffordHomestead
      @TheSwaffordHomestead  Рік тому

      The greenhouse all closed up will get 140+ too, so the recirculation get keeps heating.Winter time, we have to use a regular ole dryer. thanks

    hook up a solar passive soda can hot air collector to your inlet pipe and that will shorten the drying time. here is an example of one: ua-cam.com/video/hf-9M_WVuSM/v-deo.html
