Hey thanks i watched a few videos but this was very cut and dry. Explains exactly what you need to make a bottom board, how.to put it together. 👍 good job and video! Cheers! This is what i needed to make one
I found your pattern to be very simple and used the information on some NUC bottom boards. Due to lumber prices, I used 5/8 x 5-1/2 cedar fence boards to make the bottom, used a flap disc on an angle grinder to rub off the rough lumber on the top side. Much easier than cutting a groove in the side boards.. I was kinda ill to learn I have three different size NUC boxes and not really interchangeable between pieces.
Great bottom board build. Did my first one the other day and wish I had seen your video first. I was cutting dados and rabbets. Going to build yours for my 2nd hive now that I've seen how simple it is. Thanks.!!
Thanks for the video, quick question do you know if small gaps in the wood is ok? Boards were not perfectly square leaving less than 1/8 gap between a bottom board. I think that i will use plywood on my next ones.
I use the best quality house paint that I can find and let it cure for a couple of weeks before I use it. I use the paint that is one coat paint and primer in one but apply two coats.
Thanks...great and simple tutorial, have you maybe any idea how to diy some combination, something between solid and screen bottom board.. thanks again 🍺😀🍻🐝
If you noticed that I used 3 boards that are the bottom... use 2 instead that are about 6 inches wide on each end and then fill the gap with your screen. That is just an idea, I don't use screen bottoms. Good luck and Bee Good!
Hello Charlie, nice design! I prefer the pine too. I have predominantly screened bottom boards, but I really want to experiment with the solids, l think I'm going to use your design. Have you thought about using Tite-Bond 3 also?
I stopped raising bees because of the 'die-off' in my area. But I still have some boxes and want to make bottom boards for them. This tutorial and materials list is just what I need! thanks a bunch !
@@danskisbees7348 yes, all my neighbors suffered the same fate. We all have stopped raising bees. I thought some day I might start again, I still have me fence charger to keep the bears away from the hive.
Tite-Bond 3 is a good product and would work well in this application. I have had good luck not using any glue. The wood rotting if I don't keep the paint on has been the only real problem I have had. The Tite-Bond seems like a good idea though for the long run....
Thank you for sharing your process. Very streamlined.
Glad it was helpful!

i like how u assembled the bottom board I would say that you properly put it together
Thank you, Stephanie. I am happy that you liked it.
Great tutorial! It is great that only rudimentary carpentry skills are need! Thank you. Subscribed!
Thanks for the comments. Subscriptions appreciated.

Me too
Very simple explanations, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
That method is a whole lot easier than putting dados in the side of the boards.
I love your technics is the best so easy and simple.. Thank you !
You are so welcome!
You are a really fast nailer 🤪🤪🤪
Thanks for the video I might try this
He is fast, isn't he, Lol!
I liked your good teaching.
Thanks very practical designs
Great video. I hope you start making more videos.
I am working on a few series now... Thanks for the encouragement.
Thank you for this love building my own bee stuff
Nice simple design. I would add some glue, but that's just me.
Simple and best 👍 thanks
Thanks for liking
@@pathofthebee2873 hey I am using your method to make my bottom board and it turns out to be very easy and convenient. So thank you

That small of a gap will be no problem.... the bees will fill it in.
Good video. easy to follow
Glad you liked it!
Hi Charlie what kind paint is the best to use so the chemicals in paint would not affect bees…would you prime it also? Thank you!

@@josephmartin402 did something kill yours and everyone else's bees?

Is this for 10 frame hive body? or other? Seems to me that matters enough to mention.
Everything I do is for a standard Langstroth hive which means 10 frame. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Is there a reason not to use pneumatic tools? Thank you.
No. Air tools and glue will work fine. I enjoy being a craftsman and avoid air tools unless the job is too overwhelming, but that is just me.
@@pathofthebee2873 Well you are pretty crafty. I’m not that talented.
❤
You need to include some words on what this bottom board version costs.
