  • How I remove and install the headlamps on a Mercedes Vito van. The WIS says to remove the bumper but I find it quicker to pull the guard out of the way.

    Thanks for that Scott. But did you know that with removing two extra screws that connect the bumper and the fenders, you can slide off the complete front bumper, leaving the headlight-bolts exposed and easy to access from the front. It allows you to remove the headlight units without having to bend fenders or remove the fenderbolts on top. Much easier!

    Scott, you immense knowledge is becoming invaluable for me. I have only just purchased my 2010 Vito 111 Cdi. One of the headlights is 'wet' on the inside so I will be doing this job in the very near future.I work as a London Taxi driver and the economic climate is difficult to say the least since Uber and the corporate bullies came in to eat away at the little guy. In light of that, every video you post regarding the Vitos offers me the option of both keeping my overheads down & also doing the job myself which I quite enjoy ...until I shear a bolt or so, lol.

      +eze dogman I feel very humbled ... "immense knowledge" is very flattering! You can't buy experience so I think it's because I'm 60 years old have been doing this for a long time. I've made lots of mistakes over the years but i learnt a lot from them.
      The economic climate is difficult here with the mines closing every few months. Unemployment is going up. Uber has decimated the taxi drivers here. Plates are almost worthless now so many taxi owners have been caught. The only good thing is the state government has set up an assistance fund but I think compensation will be quite minor in the scheme of things.
      I think that's all you can do is concentrate on the cost side of the ledger by taking over all the maintenance and repairs.
      I'll be doing a second video on the 722.6 transmission service as the first one I'm not happy with. I have just done a power steering fluid flush and replacement. That video should be up soon. It's all simple work but you pay a small fortune if you outsource it. Regular lubricating fluid changes are the key to availability and the life of the components. Regards, Scott

    Thankyou Scott for this video. i too have water in the new headlight, which I'm told is due to a manufacturing fault. I need to take it out so as to dry then reseal it. Curious to know how you got around the Canbus system without using adaptors with installing LED bulbs.

      Hi Jamie and thanks. I used load resistors in parallel. www.ozled.com.au/blog/our-blog/led-load-resistors/

    Thanks for the useful video.I have replaced the same headlight in my daughter's Viano here in the UK.Unfortunately on refitting there is now a gap between the headlight and the wing.Is it possible I have distorted the wing when pulling upward to remove and replace the headlight unit?

    • @ScottElliott152
      @ScottElliott152  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks John. No the plastic wing won't distort. The position is adjustable as the bolts holding it down are in slots. Loosen the bolts, realign the wing and re-tighten.

    Cheers mate, just away to change one on mine so it's good to know it can be done without stripping half the front end! Thanks for taking the time to show us.

      Thanks Gav ... I'm happy to help out. Good luck with it. Just one tip ... when removing the connector use a hook tool to pull on the little tag rather than sticking a little screwdriver in. I'll put a note on the video later.
      If you look at my video on removing the headlight from a W204 sedan you'll see what I mean. The connector is the same on the Vito. Regards, Scott

      Duly noted, those connectors can be a right pain until you suss out a good method :)

    there's a panel on the inside the wheel well where you can get easy access to the lamp

    • @ScottElliott152
      @ScottElliott152  Рік тому

      Not on my W639 model. If there was a panel to access the back of the headlight I'd have used it. The W639 has a typical one piece fender liner with no separate removable sections. I understand there maybe a removable panel on later models of the Vito.

    Hi Scott Im having an issue where by the left side of the turn signal outside is not working front, mirror and rear. On the cluster it is clicking but in a fast motion. What could I look for is it a fuse or the Sam box, we did a voltage test I'm not get any power on the side mirror. All globes are fine Mercedes viano w639 2.2cdi

      Check the turn signal relay.

    • @lightingacrsa9397
      @lightingacrsa9397 2 роки тому

      @@ScottElliott152 this relay is situated behind the cluster or at the main fuse box?
      Whats your thoughts on a worst case scenario?

    • @ScottElliott152
      @ScottElliott152  2 роки тому

      @@lightingacrsa9397 Actually the Vito may not have a turn signal relay. The turn signal lights are probably controlled by the Signal Acquisition Module (SAM). That sits inside the main fuse box. I doubt it's something really serious but worst case might be a used SAM from a breaking yard which are not too expensive. All you can do is a use a logical process of elimination however plugging into Mercedes STAR is the quickest way to isolate the faults. The HB bulb is easy to change. It's in the owners manual. An upgrade to H7 HID's 55W is worthwhile.

    Thanks Scott now I can removed head light unit get water inside. The valuabe instructions .

  • @rackbites
    @rackbites 6 років тому

    Great instructions, very useful. I just replaced my headlights with some eBay specials as the originals were in bad shape. Coming up from underneath on the RHS I removed the horn which is on an M13 bolt to be able to get to the most inward bolt from the underside without dislocating my arm. Also at 6:54 I found inserting a large blunt screwdriver horizontally into the top of the power connecting clip and giving a slight twist would release the catch. You could hear it go ping. Once you get it off, take a look and you will see how it is supposed to work. Another trick to not break the tabs off the back covers is not to push down on the long tab but gently push a large screw driver into the tab to put as little pressure as possible to allow it to release. The plastic seems to get brittle in a Sydney climate. Thanks again Scott.
