    Would it be an idea to do a 'sounds with the DSL40' video? Where you get a couple of guitars, some pedals and see just how many famous bands/guitarist you can squeeze from it, just to settle it once and for all.

    • @jcugnoni
      @jcugnoni 8 років тому +3

      Jelmer Houdijk Great idea. It could be very nice to do it with a couple of versatile guitars. For example a classic or HSS strat, a PRS SE or Ibanez and a good Les Paul... add to it a Tubescreamer, a delay, a wha and a eq pedal and you can recreate the history of Rock!
      Could also be considering other versatile amps like Egnater Tweaker (i love mine ;-) or Bassbreaker...

    This is so spot on it's almost insane to think you guys are replicating songs from 40+ years ago. Screw everyone who thinks the Marshall DSL40 C features too much in Sounds Like. To be able to pull off these tones with just an EQ is amazing, and I'm not even a Marshall fanboy lol. Great Job guys on this one. How about Amon Amarth for the next one?

    • @thomaschilds8781

      Anyone else notice the amp's EQ settings? Roughly centred, with the mid pulled out, only to put the mid back in with the EQ pedal. I doubt the Boss pedal was even needed.

Child in Time, When a Blind Man Cries, Strange Kind of Woman, Woman from Tokyo, Highway Star, Space Truckin', Lazy, Smoke on the Water, Burn, Mistreated, Perfect Strangers, Knocking at your Back Door, Kill the King, Man on the Silver Mountain, Tarot Woman, Temple of the King, Stargazer, Catch the Rainbow, Starstruck, Gates of Babylon, Self Portrait, Run with the Wolf, Snake Charmer, Long Live Rock & Roll, All Night Long, Since You've Been Gone, I Surrender, Can't Happen Here, Stone Cold, Street of Dreams...

    Robbo actually used a Les Paul Deluxe (and also a Strat at times , one example being his solo on 'Don't Believe a Word' ) and then later he used the same Deluxe after it had full-sized humbuckers fitted . He didn't use his Custom on those classic studio albums.

    These videos are BRILLIANT. My only request is to take a bit more time showing the settings on the amps. A lot of times whoever is shooting pans across the amp settings and I can see them for the most part; but getting a good solid shot of the settings would make it easier for me to match your sound. Thanks!

      or even take snapshots of the pedal chain and amp and pedal settings and stick them at the end of the video.

  • @comicsrcool5483
    @comicsrcool5483 8 років тому

    YES! Now we are talking guys! SOOO close to what I am after tonewise. Your Thin Lizzy tone was spot on! This was a really cool one because you once again managed to show what an absolutely fantastic amp that DSL 40 is(I am so close to getting one I can taste it....).
    Please stop apologizing for using it! Its not your fault Marshall made ONE amp that is reasonably priced and can get more Marshall classic tones then we can handle. The people who want Jubilees and Codes or a full stack will buy them if they want them. For those of us with limited cash, you are simply saying "Marshall Tones= DSL 40" and you prove it every time.
    The tip about the EQ pedal is without a doubt the buried gem in this video. You just took the DSL to another level because NOW you can throw a bunch of Marshall VINTAGE tones into the mix! I mean for 700(Amp plus Pedal) you get one hell of an amp that can capture Marshall tones all over the place.
    I do have to ask though. Pokey?! What is the amp doing or sounding like that you call Pokey. I have heard the term in other ways and it usually means slow. I would love to know how amps are slow.
    Now that you guys have that 70s ROCK tone nailed...how about the 70s Americana tone!! PETTY AND CAMPBELL!
    You'd basically be swapping out the Marshall Amps for A Fenders and The Gibson Guitars for Fenders. Since Fender amps dont have that crunch channel its what would you use for the dirty sound that I am dying to see/hear....but they are SO Close to Thin Lizzy with the overdriven sound that I really REALLY want to see what you both come up with!!
    Thanks again for doing these videos! They really are massively fun and MASSIVELY Educational!
    Cheers

      i wanna have a Susan Tedeschi rig in there too cos if you do the Tedeschi Trucks band then you have a good bit of dual guitar, but it's pretty easy for derek, SG and Fender amp
      Susan has a bit more to her rig, it's Strat, probably another fender, wah and some other fx

    Robbo used the 1970's Norlin era Gibson Black Custom while his Gibson Deluxe was being repaired subsequently used it on the Live and Dangerous album.
    So, for the record, if you like Thin Lizzy from 1974-(autumn) 1977 the guitars used by both members Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson is the "Norlin era" Gibson Deluxe with Mini Humbucker.

      sandman sevenseven If we morally judged music by the artists personal lives, probably half the music ever created would be off limits. I can understand a person may not want to support Townshend, but personal life is not music. Music is art for our own interpretation. And probably hundreds if not thousands of artists have had sex with underage girls. Jimmy Page & David Bowie had sex with the same 13-14 yr old girl. And the list is long. Chuck Berry, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis all did the same. All should've been punished as pedos by law. Pete Townshend was rightfully punished, but didn't have sex with a child. Still all great artists, just keep the kids away from them.

    I'm probably biased as I have one, but I don't think you should feel bad about still using the DSL40C sometimes. The fact is that many guitarists have had the Marshall sound, and it's popular for good reason. If some gear gets used more than others, that's just a sign of its quality. Keep it up guys, you do a great job. 👏

    Bass and Drum part
    ·Phil Lynott: as the guitarists, the bass rig is very simple. Just a Fender Standard P bass with rosewood fingerboard and a Hartke amp to get a clear tone, Kickback series are good beacuse includes a compressor. You need a eq pedal to make the bass sound deep and sparkle at the same time
    ·Brian Downy
    -He used a Gretsch kit with two 24 bass drums in the classic era, I'm pretty sure it wasn't mahogany cause Brian told about the light sound of the wood. He used also 10, 12 and 14 rack toms. The Gretsch Energy Standard with double pedal could be great
    -For cymbals, Paiste PST 5 will be good, beacuse you'll get an splash and the drums are expensive

    • @GunsnRosesfan2012
      @GunsnRosesfan2012 8 років тому

      Adem H so for joe we would see a les paul and a marshall with some amount of pedals?

    • @ademh3745
      @ademh3745 8 років тому

      GunsnRosesfan2012 Maybe, I'm pretty sure that Joe also used a Strat for those early records along with a modded 65' Tele (for Toys in the Attic) along with Gibsons. For gear I heard that Brad used a 100-watt Marshall for the first two albums but then switched to Ampeg. I actually think that Aerosmith used Ampeg for recordings but Marshall live. As for pedals the only one I that I know of is the colorsound overdriver
