Thank god you’ve done this Chase. I’ve been wanting someone to do an updated “How to Hindenburg” as someone who loves her and uses her a lot, but would like different perspectives on how best to use her.
i actually love her AP. 2000 dmg PER PEN and u can easily pen upper side armor of BBs.
any broadside BB that is not extremely far can take HEAVY dmg.
i can rip apart yamato for more than 10k volleys if he is broadside and not far away
cobrazax you can actually shoot A.P. at nearly every range on broadsided targets and get 7-10k salvos.

This was great! I've learned more about how to play the Hindenburg, and other Greman CC's in this one video than I have in all the others I've watched. It seems like most of these guys doing "How To" videos don't really teach anything, and mostly want to show you how good they are without talking about the do's and don'ts. But you educated me a whole lot more than they did. And that's the whole point of this video, right? Those other guys should rename their videos "Look at me, and how good I am." Thanks a bunch!

@@MegaFregel Just do some quick math on it. At the end of the game, he ends with 395 shot hits, and 21 fires. That means he set fires 5.3% of his confirmed hits. This doesn't even account for shatters. He's just accurate with his guns, and therefore increases the number of fires in a game. 5.3% is not outside of the average, especially for a DOT ship like hindy
Literally just showed another player how to angle and range with Hindy, and this video sums up everything perfectly. Float at 15km stern-facing and burn all the decks in sight
Hindenburg not only can, but must rush BBs. There are so many BB players out there, even with the Shikishima guns, who just don't know how to handle an on-rushing Hindenburg. Especially if you can come from behind an island. It's so much fun. Just don't do the noob-mistake of popping your hydro to spot through the island, just because your team lost spotting. Just know he'll be there. Besides, he'll shoot eventually giving himself away.
Good vid ty! Hindi was my most productive ship for a long time. Sniping HE from the back early on can do a lot of damage and produce a very good personal score but it is very important to focus a ship that is low HP and sink it. Do not let low HP ships heal and continue to do damage. Sink him and get his guns out of the game. Look at this game at 7:30 to go. It is 7v7 and only a 60pt lead in spite of the stellar score wracked up. I see 2-4 enemy ships still dealing damage that should be focused and on the bottom. Sniping also totally relies on somebody forward in harms way spotting or the sniper has no targets to HE spam. Of my fav Hindi games most have been in close gun fire support of aggressive BBs willing to attack and tank getting my Hindy in range to spit torps on everybody around. A yolo squad of a couple brawling BBs and a close support Hindy can break an enemy team.

in a how to u should also add the recommended builds for ship and captains , because most ppl have no clue how to build a proper shipcaptain and which modules are useful or not.
Great vid except for one thing. Too many cruisers are just damage farming and not paying any attention to what's going on or just don't care. They use BB's as torp magnets so they can burn down other ships rather than go after DD's that have snuck around the flanks. So rather than BB's being effective, they're just running away from DD's. Often right behind cruisers that won't go hunt them down.
I love how you promote this kind of gameplay and not hidding behind the island kinda stuff..

You failed to make special mention though, of Hindy's vulnerability to 430mm+ guns, that can overmatch its upper belt and deck.
If hindy is nicely angled, montana and GK rounds bounce off its deck at range. If a Yama, thunderer, Kremlin or Ohio connect with its midsection at any range, they will
hit home for glaring damage. So, when those BBs are shooting at you, they CANNOT be allowed to connect. If you are steeply angled, you can kind of ignore Monty's
GK and whatnot. Otherwise, great vid :D
Hindenburg still has her own place in some competitive context as an excellent flanker.

Wish they'd buff the Hipper... Very good info for German Ships.... I think I a lot of cruisers play very typical. Good informative video.. Smooth sailing and I gave you a thumbs up. For me, it's not often I find that perfect island, it has happened, but it's rare...

I find my german cruisers to be more effective when shooting AP. Yes, h does great damage and is a great player. However, if you shoot AP, you will hurt even bbs for 8-12k per salvo. That is damage that thy wont heal as much as fire.

Yeah the German AP does huge amounts of damage to any target, the HE damage is pretty bad, but the good penetration gives you a lot of consistency.
The damage per shell is high, but Hindy's AP pen isn't great, so at long range the AP loses efficiency fast.

Hindenburg is like 180 mm at 15 km. That's enough to pen the upper casemate of a flat broadside BB. Bismarck has the highest armor there at like 180 mm if I remember. You can't pen the main armor belt, so don't bother. Aim at where the superstructure and the hull meets.
If the BB angles 30 degrees towards you, he doubles his armor. 30 degrees is where auto-bounce starts so you don't have to worry about meeting more than double the armor. So ideally if you have an AP pen of 360 mm, you can pen the upper casement of a BB at any broadside angle.
Generally Russian and German BBs are the ones with armor you can't reliably pen broadside in cruisers. Next is Japanese who sometimes have a bit more armored casemates. US, French, and British BBs are squishy and can be AP penned by cruisers at any range.
It's a bit different for BBs at tier 7 and below where most BBs have distributed armor scheme. It makes it harder for cruisers to pen with AP. It doesn't help that earlier cruisers have horrible AP pen. Only US BBs who always have all or nothing armor can be AP penned by cruisers at all tiers.

What Grimm said, but some good starting perks include Priority Target, Adrenaline Rush, Demo Expert, Fire Prevention, and Concealment.
Hindenburg generally speaking works really well with the standard CA build. PT, AR, SI, CE, DE, EM, JoaT and EL. For the modules, it's Main Armaments in Slot 1, then either propulsion systems or the Dam Con one for Slot 2. Spotter plane mod is also a decent choice there. Better dispersion is the best choice in Slot 3, if you feel the turret traverse is too sluggish, you could pick that one instead. After that, it's probably Rudder Mod for Slot 4, Concealment mod is the only valid choice at Slot 5 and Slot 6 is Main Battery Mod 3 for the extra reload, as your range generally speaking is quite good.
As far as special captains go, Lütjens works quite will with Hindenburg, as you can actually get his reload buff relatively quickly.
Pretty much the standard ca build. Plus ifhe so i can meme kremlins. It gets me enough he pen to go thru kremlin deck armour. As for modules i go accuracy in slot 3, rudder shift in slot 4 and 5 for maximum shell and torpbeating, and main gun reload in slot 6. The other ones really dont affect your playstyle too much.
Well timed, sir. I just decided to continue grinding out the KM cruisers and I'm about a third of the way through the Hipper. I'd be further but I'm also grinding missions in co-op.
This came out at an excellent time since I was looking at working down the German cruiser tree :)

I don't know iChase, I believe that this can work. But usually there are a lot more snipers around that end your little cowboy dance abruptly.
Whole bunch of BB's just hanging around out in the open, staying detected and not shooting back? I mean jeez - this guy's a way better player than me, but if the enemy team behaved like that even some of the time I reckon my average damage would double.

Whenever im in open water in line of sight of 4 enemy ships they usually just all target me instantly, and kill me in a few salvos no matter how i angle, no matter how far away i am. This actually looks like a setup with friendly opponents who allow this to happen for the video.
Well explained but I don't think it actually work in live server battles these days , as I ended up eating ton of shells from 4 different ships and died ,when I tried to shoot one bb in my gun range. Lol.
Hindy is a beast now. I easily average 130+K damage in it now. She is precise, she is somewhat tanky, and towards the end of the match, when there are fewer ships around she can be used to push and chase too. AP is deadly if someone is dumb enough to give you broadside.
Yorck can dominate even in T9 battles, doing 200K+ damage, played essentially in this manner. Edit: which Chase mentioned near the end of the video.
I understand this type of play with this ship, but with a CV in the game this doesn't work. CV would have this ship for lunch. How do you play in that situation?

just saw this vid, felt like myself playing, many people makes the mistake of going to close to enemy ships to DPM and think good armor an turtle back will save you. and Never ever Rush a GK to torp, its better to Burn him down and bounce his guns
Then, I have the worst luck ever, because no matter how many of my teammates are between me and the enemy, I always have at least 2 ppl focusing on me, as soon I start to shoot. Oh, and the HE in my Roon, doesn't work, because I'm getting like 3 fires for 100 shots. Seriously, sometimes I ask myself if I'm not playing some other game with the same name or what.

Looks like the old henry style of play that got nerfed into the dirt.
My issue with these types of cruisers is their inability to map control. Yeah, 14 minutes in he has lots of damage farmed. But the red team has both caps by the ships he is farming.
If his team had been doing only as good of a job as the red team in staying alive, he could have still lost.
Damage is damage, winning is map control. At least in domination matches.

dont be greedy, hindenburg is not agile, it can only move forward and reverse in a small angle changes, dont salvo, shoot your gun turret by turret anticipating its speed change, aim carefully, and pay attention to his smoke chute, and use HE, annoy it until it disengages.

Alfred Conqueror I’d take a look at this thread, it’s a pretty recent debate between Hindi and Zao: www.reddit.com/r/WorldOfWarships/comments/hadj4j/hindenburg_or_zao_in_the_current_meta/?. Both ships fill the kiting role very well, but they do it in different ways and have different alt play-styles. Zao is a fantastic Hunter-killer/kiting cruiser that excels against enemies that you’ve surprised or are too far away to effectively hit you. The Zao’s trademarks are its excellent alpha (amazing AP, HE, torps, and accuracy) along with great concealment and maneuverability. The biggest issues the Zao has is a lack HP and dpm, especially if you don’t have great aim. The lack of hp is especially noticeable with the effect of powercreep. Hindi is a kiting/tanky cruiser that excels against ships at range that it can out-trade with dpm (which is most). The extra HP and heal of the Hindi also helps with this. The Hindi is a better ship overall since it can do the dpm job more efficiently than the Zao can do either of it’s jobs and the Hindi’s job is also easier, but it’s also a bit less varied with its gameplay. The Hindi can also late game push by using its large hp pool, turtle back, and torps but it’s easy to get it wrong. Although tbf it’s also easy to overextend early game with a Zao too, and when you overextend with a Zao you die right away. At least if you push incorrectly with a Hindi late game you’ve hopefully done a good amount of dmg by then. Biggest issues with the Hindi is: poor concealment, relatively slow, and it eats a lot of full pens. I’d also argue that the lack of HE alpha is an issue against dds, but I feel this is only an issue when compared to the Zao which blaps dds like nothing else. Both ships suffer from a lack of team utility. Hindi has a better hydro, but imo with is counterbalanced by the Zao’s superior speed and concealment.
As a final verdict on what to pick I’ll say this: Do you want to farm bbs for breakfast, prefer a more casual style of playing wows, and/or simply the want the more meta ship? Get the Hindi. Do you want to shadow your friendly dds and ambush enemy ships whenever you can for adrenaline fueled action, but also accept the risk that it will not always go to plan and that mistakes will hurt? Get the Zao.

I would not suggest you to pick zao 1st if you are not really good at that particular style of playing, current meta is rough for zao, it need some buff

try training room vs 2 bbs and shoot max range do it again vs 2 cruisers and you have mastered it

I would not suggest Hipper playing this style because the DPM and fire chance is too low; but Roon and Hindy are perfect for it
Hipper can do it when top tier, not when bottom tier due to lack of range vs tier 9-10

at t8 you can be hella agressive cuz u can bounce 380mm so u can bounce all but ijn and us bb at t8
When I was grinding Hipper, this was the play style that was most effective for me, so yes.
Yes, you can apply the lesson to the Hipper as well, but be careful when bottom tier due to not as much range
Well if your only goal is to farm damage then yes this is a perfect way to play but if you are a serious team player then NO this is absolutely NOT the way to play! He missed half a dozen great opportunities to really be an asset to his team because he was solely focused on seeing how much damage he can accumulate. This represents one of the game play tactics that makes this game a real pisser to want to play! I would also mention that a skilled player is not going to waste the time it takes to switch round types and instead would be more map aware and be able to anticipate and be able to switch ammo type between shots.
I thought same thing...he missed 2 different opportunities to kill dds...which helps team out tremendously...another damage farming shitter.
Counterpoint: German HE wrecks battleships, fires kept the concealment penalty on them, and he had hydro supporting the other cruiser, who was dealing with the DDs for the Hindenburg. C cap had light resistance, so it would make sense to allocate resources to locking down an enemy push into A-B. He also held a position south of B-C that would have forced enemy ships into an open water crossfire if they tried to close the gap.
Would this be the same for Mainz and Prince Eugen?
similar with mainz(i call her my "little hindy" ;) but the mainz is decidedly less tanky. plus no heal, ya gota be a little more shy. however, the firepower is great. you can def be the same, annoying fire-starter as hindy. and the AP aint bad either. ive played since lauch and if i had to call myself a main of any 1 ship, its the hindy.(replaced for a short time by the henri) and Devo(featured in this vid) and i used to be clanmates and still div from time to time. funny to see ichase recognize some stuff we actually worked on/practiced in our hindys. :)
most German cruisers are similar, although the light cruisers will probably move a bit more

I honestly don't get the point of hindenburg anymore because it has turned this ship from a unique concept to another HE spammer but there are better HE spammers like Worcester
It had great armor but constantly adding new 457mm gun armed ships has powercrept it and after the armor changes to cruisers now it is irrelevant.
It had great AP with twelve shots each doing the highest AP Alpha dmg but Petroplavolsk came and took the title for some reason.
Torps? U get better torps and same amount with the Minotaur.
The only standout features are the turtleback citadel which still works for me atleast and the awesome German hydroacustic search.
Nothing else is special about it anymore because of other lines.

From 4:00 on big mistake. Overextended and not shooting DDs... A how-to should be without major mistakes. He got away withit. Next player dies...

Constant firing CA's and DD's are ruining the matches.
Hindenburg is in a pretty bad spot nowadays... yes that is the correct way of playing her, but, that will not help you vs so many overmatching BBs... At least in EU server Thunderer is everywhere, and that thing obliterates Hindenburgs... From an enjoyment point of view, I see no reasson to play Hindenburg since I got the Aegir. Yes, I know it is a different kind of ship... but Aegir is tanky as Hindenburg pretended to be (it is not anymore as the 30 mm platting is of no use now as it was long time ago), has surprinsingly consitent guns, at least for me, decent enough mobility and concelment etc etc. Sincerely I feel more conmfortable in the Aegir on a TX game, than with the Hinden... and that is pretty sad.

I admit, I have no idea how a more aggressive play style would work in the current state of the game. Didn't realize that I have played the last time about 3 years ago... time flies...
When he has 14km concealment it's hard to lap around flanks. Also this is cheaters' favorite ship.
