- Rhode Island artist and toy designer David Bird was inspired to create fanciful, tiny sculptures out of acorns, sticks, ferns and feathers - art he has dubbed "Becorns" - which are attracting curious birds and wildlife (and plenty of humans, too). Correspondent Faith Salie reports.

I feel like this should be a children’s show or book. He’s quite innovative.
There you go! He should work at #laika studios! They'd love him over there.
Agreed
First thing I thought was I want to find his kids book. So lovely and light. Perfect for a children's book
I would honestly love to see a Stop Motion animation with them
absolutely!
Oooh, there's an idea! I was thinking CG but stop motion is a better idea!
Our world truly needs more David Birds. Thank you for recognizing him!!
He is great:) There are a few more you will probably enjoy, the first that started this that I know of is a Polish guy Petr Vaclavek www.youtube.com/@PetrVaclavek and he has a great sense of humor:). Than, there's George Mouse and Where the gnomes live channel. I hope you enjoy!
Found his videos just a few weeks ago, and then spotted this, SO GREAT he was recognized. I love making small people, gnomes and fairies as well. Sad that the few acorn trees in my neighborhood either are gone or no longer produce viable acorns.
Positive stories like this is what the world needs right now.
Agreed, its best when CBS stays off politics
@@JohnDoe-xu2vx nor woke agenda as well
When I was a young child I would spend weekends with my dad. We’d go to the park and we’d collect acorns and take them back to his apartment where he’d use sculpting clay to turn them into acorn people. Still one of my best memories from childhood.
Sounds like a really fun time!
He deserves this recognition! His UA-cam channel is lovely. Quite the storyteller…
Oh and an amazing artist 😉!
yes, his videos have such a calming effect on me
Every time I watch one of his videos, I'm all abuzz with excitement! His gifts are truly magical!
It’s wonderful that CBS Sunday Morning filmed and aired this awesome man and his Becorns. I found his UA-cam channel a while ago and I’m so fascinated by his talent. Even bought 2 gorgeous calendars this year for Christmas gifts. They are beautiful!
I adore David's work and his awe and respect for nature. His little Becorns are magical and do make you feel alive and hopeful. They each have their own special characteristics that make them so very loveable. Thank you for recognizing his amazing talent and inspiration. Long live the Becorns and long live the beautiful, magical natural world. We must all do our part to care for this amazing, finite planet that we are fortunate enough to call home.💕thank you, David Bird for showcasing how truly magical nature and innocence are.
Can’t believe Beacorns is getting the recognition they deserve ❤; been following Beacorns for a year or two now. Thank you, thank you ❤.
olivia buller - me, too! I first saw his Becorns videos a year ago and fell in love 🥰 The names he gives them are so precious, Thank You, David M. Bird 🐿
I'm watching from Poland this is not new to us here. In our culture figurines/organic toys like this are made for centuries. We learn to make them in art class in kindergarten, not only from acorns but also from chestnuts. I remember making them as a kid. Of course, these are very specific and original, David Brid's own and they are beautiful and so cute! Glad that I watched this video. This story is like a warm blanket - just positive vibes and such a pleasure to watch! We need more of this. Also, the arrangements of these tiny sculptures and the pictures that David takes of them are wonderful. I will check it out.
Nice! What are they called?
I'd like to know the name of this tradition if you don't mind.
Here in Mexico there used to be a similar toy making tradition but a bit less nature oriented, made instead with wood and thin and other materials with the characteristic colorful decorations.
Ive followed this fellow for a few years. So cool to see his ideas now recognized in this way. I watched the summoning g a blue bird build, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! So happy for him
Me too 😊
Nothing more relaxing than watching Dave's videos. Seems simple until you realize the amount of work he puts in...
This story makes my heart feel good. So glad David followed his passion and shared his whimsical world with us!
I'm 61 years old, I love the Becorns. They seem so real but kinda like a fairy tale too. Enjoyed, Thanks for sharing...

Hope he lands a deal with a kids network to do an actual show. So adorable.
I love that the Love of Becorns is spreading!
He spent 5 yrs. at Lego. Ahhh, now I understand. :) I saw these last yr. on You Tube and thought they were one of the most charming things ever.
I like them because they are cute. I think their cuteness makes them compelling. They remind me of the doozers from the 80's Jim Hensen show, _Fraggle Rock._
THATS what they remind me of!! I couldnt figure it out.
No wonder I like them 😏
"...and to know that other people are feeling that and appreciating that..." YES! THANK YOU!
These little critters just put a smile on my face. So absolutely adorable. He’s so lucky to have discovered this little world. Keep up the good work, we want to see more.

One person who has an original one of a kind idea and expresses it like this guy..unique in every way and enchants an otherwise mundane existence.

My gosh I feel great watching David’s videos , so curious ,and takes me back when I use to pick leaves and play with clay and build forest and mushrooms and leave on carton displays , love it 🥰🥰🥰
Earth is a beautiful place. Plants and animals are amazing.
as a child (MA) I loved acorns. I'd collect them and even ate some. how lovely he transformed these often-overlooked gems of nature.
Enchantment with the natural world around us is how it was meant to be for young and old!
I’ve never heard of him or becorns! Incredible!
I love this! It satisfies my fairy 🧚🏾♀️ notions, magical beliefs and little people fascination! He’s so chill too.

Becorns are Awesome! Thank YOU!!!!
Of course we understans how much fun that is!!! I can spend two days on making a little weird fun sculpture and I could spend the whole day crouching somewhere for the joy of sighting that pretty bird hopefully at some point. And I steal my children's books to read too.
You combine all that and there we are! The World of the Becorns or simply the World, the way we want to see it... !

They are just precious.
A beautiful inspiration to follow. Mr. David Bird is really enthusiastic. I appreciate his work so much.
This guy is on UA-cam and needs to put out more videos. They are mesmerizing.
What attracts me most to becorns is the whimsical nature of them. His style makes them so benevolent. David nailed it when he said it captures our sense of wonder that there may be a small world of little acorn people hidden from us.
It’s the main reason why the secret life of arrietty is my favorite ghibli film.
In tune with nature and mother earth. That's a beautiful thing. These becorns are adorable.
I live these! My inner child loves the cute ideas of what these little guys are doing. Very creative and inspiring.
Wonderful artist....Wow!
However, I am reminded of an unsettling "classic" from my childhood..Miss Hickory. Still recovering...lol.
This man is special. He is the definition of imagination. I hope everyone that sees this will subribe to his channel.
I love becorns. David is so creative

What a truly wonderful little world you have shared with us. Adults still have that love of woodland little entities recalled from our childhood memories, What you have done is to create a magical world where your little creations are so individually cute as! I have started making them for my grandaughter, Love your creativity. Rosie Hoy New Zealand
These are adorable! 🥰 👏
TYVM for sharing!👍
I have a neighbor who's pin oak is probably going to have acorns fall onto my driveway sometime next spring. Those first acorns take 30-40 years, I read, to establish their first season. I've noticed the buds as I'm frequently cleaning up the debris of fallen leaves twice a year, with some branches too. Initially I was thinking about just making some acorn flour. Which is a very sweet flour from a bit of a tedious process. Good for baking or tossing a heaping spoonful on top of some yogurt. Now I'm intrigued to try to make some of these cuties for my winter wildlife feeding station back in my woods! 🤭😂
Brightest Blessings to You! ☺️✌️❤️🦋🙏
Talent at its finest!
He was like lady you don't think I've heard that squirrel line a million times already
Excellent Craft !! Beautiful pictures. 😃
I'm so glad David Bird received the big time recognition he deserves!
