  • In this video I'll be showing, with as much detail as I can, how to replace the thermostat on a 2003 Cadillac CTS. It's a bit more difficult on Cadillac vehicles than on most other vehicles. I'll be showing the full process including all of the mistakes along the way.

    I used a Dremel bit and shaved away till I could turn housing enough to remove thermostat and used old housing. Like you said pain in ass... Wait till fuel pump goes out..most fun

    It is not an American designed engine, it is German (OPEL) that is why it is all the bolts are TORX head just like shit box BMW etc. I have the later version in my German built Holden Vectra and I have just done the thermostat to fix a leak. I felt your pain.

      I appreciate the clarification, now I know who to be mad at when I have to work on things.

    GM is not bad to work on, it is just Cadillac. Chevy is one of the easiest to work on.

    there two versions of this Engine, Belt Driven the Thermostate is in the back of the engine by the firewall that is more of a pain in the arse and then there is the Chain Driven one that he has that requires all of this.

      The 3.2L only has a timing belt in the 2003. great engine just a PITA to work on. I have a 2003 with 224k on it. I think my thermostat is bad now FML!! The engine in the video has a timing belt not a chain.

      @@toddfasing842 interesting, mine has a chain, ew, thermostat out, best to just pull the engine.

      @@Level_Up_Nation You must have a 2.8, 3.0 or 3.6 because the 3.2L Opel engine never had a timing chain.

      @@toddfasing842 hmm, guess I need to pull the codes off of it, got car at an Auto Auction, it was listed as a 3.2, but a 3.6 would be nice. Lol

      @@Level_Up_Nation Hi. I'm not trying to be an ass or a know it all but I know these cars inside and out. Have had mine since 2010. yes please check. I bet you have the 3.6L. I'm looking for a 2005 CTS-V!

    Is it the same design for the 2005 CTS?

      03-07 is all the 1st generation... I'd assume same. If not, similar at least.

    Thanks for your video. My question is did you use Dexcool coolant 50/50 or dexcool concentrate and 1 gallon of distilled water? I originally used the 1 gallon concentrate and 1 gallon distilled water. I later added the dexcool 50/50 pre mix because it was a little below the arrow on plastic reservoir tank then I got the code p0128 (coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temperature).

    • @ikramnanlawala4843
      @ikramnanlawala4843  2 роки тому +1

      So normally I prefer concentrate and distilled in equal parts but I was at a buddies house doing this and had to ask my dad to go and get the coolant for me (on his motorcycle) so I just used 50/50.
      Yes to Dexcool...that's what these cars like.

    I have an 03 cts and have a code for thermostat and I dread doing it but don't want to spend $1000 for a thermostat replacement

    What's the black thin hose under manifold and where does it connect to. Plus the T hose for the coolent goes there? My hose's are all in a different place.

    • @ikramnanlawala4843
      @ikramnanlawala4843  2 роки тому

      Black like is a vacuum line. You kinda can hear the air escape when I disconnect it. That's just the way they ran it for convenience.
      Then T hose, if you are referring to the hose that connects to the thermostat, yes. It's the one I disconnected on the driver side of the engine. It leads into there.

    Will this also cause the information display to show "engine hot" and or "a/c off"?

      Yes but then I had another witch was o2 sensor then awhile later car wood die or just not fire. Fuel pump I was told turned out to be fuel filter. Right now the CTS is working great.

      I also had to drill PVC 1/16 and ad Summit racing parts so it could breathe and the Traction control works better. I also added a trans cooler to radiator. And of course valve covers started leaking. Very comfortable car but cost about &500 to a $1,000 a year to maintain...

      Could be a bad alternator, could be a bad battery/old battery, could just be as little as the battery terminals having a lot of corrosion or not making great contact. Hard to say without checking.

      If an auto parts store doesn't have it, your best option is calling a Cadillac dealership and asking the parts department if they have one or if they can source one out in the country.
