The only real canon are movies, everything else can easily be retconned or thrown out of the "canon", this is why these short stories are loosely connected to the main sotryline and don't really change anything in the universe.
Also too many stories are made around OT era, there's only 4 years between ANH and ROTJ.

Vader managed to survive without his life support system before. A legend story where he meets vision of Padme and collapses a whole temple on himself. He was running around and fighting people without helmet, because the Dark Side kept him alive. Kinda like Darth Sion could keep his fractured body together, because the suffering he felt made him stronger in the Dark Side so it was a nice loop going on.

Vader has the force ability to be badass at any and every moment

Chewie barely fought off a weakened Vader, and if the fight had really continued, Vader still would have killed him. Vader is an absolute powerhouse in canon, with so many feats of power that put him far above basically everyone else.

Two things:
1. I don't think 3PO would have straight up lied to Vader about interpreting what the monsters said. Wouldn't that be against his programming?
2. No way Vader didn't recognize 3PO, he worked on him for years. Even after 10 years when he saw him again looking for his mother he immediately recognized him. I think he simply didn't care, or for whatever reason, the writer of the comic didn't feel like delving into that. They could have at least added a thought bubble of Vader thinking "this droid looks familiar..." and left it at that.
