- Hey guys! I had a few friends who are new woodworkers as me to make a quick video on routers! I am not going over router tables in this video, just trim routers and plunge routers. I run over what they do and how to make a cut!
As always I will answer any questions that I can, please like and subscribe and hit that bell to get notified when new videos come out!

Women are always reliable sources of common sense advice. Thank you for teaching me how to use a router. None of the male reviewers could stay on track and talk about the basic functionality. Thank you!
It’s awesome to see a woman doing wood working and using power tools. Great video. Great advice.
Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us beginners about the use of wood working tools and how to safely use them. I'm three years in and I'm looking to purchase my first router to enhance features on my wood work. Your work is incredible! You've already taught me so much. Thank you!!
I am so glad I could help! Thank you for your kind comment.
After watching this I went and bought the Ryobi trim router and man I love it! I do a good bit of farmhouse style woodwork and have avoided using a router but this trim router makes it easy and looks professional! Thanks for the video!
Yay!! So glad it was helpful! Thanks Matt
This was very useful for someone who is using this tool for the first time. Thank you for making this video.
I have learned a lot since I watched this video the first time and now I appreciate it even more! I'm waiting on delivery of a new trim router tomorrow and watching your video is helping me go to the next level. Thank you!
You have no idea how happy this comment made me! Thank you 🙏🏼
i have watched all the so-called pro videos on how to use a router as a beginner and after all the videos i end up none the wiser. Your video was great and i could follow it well and understand everything. Its also an added bonus that you are rather nice too.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much for this video! I just bought a router and needed a quick tutorial! This was amazing! I also LOVE your safety glasses, going to get some now!
Thanks for taking the time to help us beginners. Never used a router. I’m going with the trim router just to play with and try out.
So glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!!
This was an excellent tutorial!!! Well done, you covered everything and safety which I greatly appreciated! Can't wait to start making my projects! ~ Mary S.
Very, very helpful! I'm brand new to routers, and your tutorial was just my speed. Thank you!
I'm used to larger, corded routers ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.
Thank you for doing this! I haven’t used a router before and was a little intimidated by them. I think I may have to give it a try!
After searching litterally 50 videos....you are the only one who went into this kind of depth. Pluse you have a great clear, and to the point explanation 👏 THANK YOU!
Yay! So glad it was helpful!! Thanks for watching!
I just ordered my first hand/palm router. My dad built custom furniture and cabinets for years but I never got into it and didn't pay much attention. After many years, I'm finally taking my interest in it and stocking up on woodworking tools. Great informative video! Thanks!
That’s awesome that you’re starting to get into it! Carry on the tradition
Call me sexist wtv but being a female beginner wood worker i feel a lot more comfortable taking instructions from a female and seeing you doing this and knowing your sh*t thoroughly without any arrogant comments about how basic this information is, im thankful i found your video. My man just got me my second router but this one im learning is a wood trimmer router, a bit, hehe different much smaller but easy to to hold and maneuver. The bigger router he got be for xmas, is old, great quality but he got it on ebay, him not knowing what he was buying not being a wood worker at all, hes in the classic car auto body painting career, but he was thinking the big brand name would be efficient...But unfortunately I cant find any bits or adapter parts for it other than in the vintage category on ebay which are way more expensive than regular bits for newer routers. Not on Amazon, which is my main place to buy a lot of my tools cus its just convenient and fast. Thats why he just got me this one, almost all the bits on Amazon will work for this router trimmer. Anywho..thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you for posting this. I have not used a router before and just bought this Ryobi trim router. Your video is very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
1) thing you did, but didn't mention, is that long hair should ALWAYS be put up, not just ponytailed. Thank you for the link💕
Susan Stroda i like the hair..😉
I like the hair also
Very good video! I just bought my first router and this helped me a ton. Thank you!
Awesome! So happy to hear that!
Liked how you ended by showing you holding the board and making a cut. Thanks for you video.
Hi Brandi i bought this Ryobi router same one but when i watched injury videos i was confused what i should do so i seen your’s video now i am in confidence how to use this you gave the sport to wood workers you are great thanks 👍👍👍
Oh I’m glad, just be sure to read the instructions carefully, and take proper safety measures you should be fine.
I'm new at wood working and I plan on getting a router. Thank you very much for the info. Great video 🙃👍🇺🇲
Yay so glad! Hope it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
great video....one thing I have come across as I have explored routers.....my manual , and I have heard several on YT say that when you put the bit in, you should pull it back out ever so slightly, 1/8 " or less, because the collet draws down on it when you tighten.
That’s good advice! Thanks for watching!
Very informative video, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for posting.
Thanks for watching
love to see women doing woodwork , my father is a woods craftsman and has every tool known to man and you would thing I know what is what but that isnt the case. Your great to watch and easy to understand and your a cutie pie. Thank you
Well thanks! I appreciate the support!
@@EternalHarvestDecor I am going to build a simple wood table farmhouse style , do you have any video tutorials related for beginners? TIA
I just find your channel... I'm big fan of Carpentry work
Simply perfect breakdown. Thank you!
Thank you for all the tips!! I really like how you explained everything!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video!! I came here because another video didn't have the close ups that I needed. Good job.
Glad it helped
A lot of the male router lessons were far to clever for a beginner. This is most helpful. thankyou.
I did not know ryobi had a cordless router. Thats gotta be handy as heck.
how knew I was gonna see a video tutorial on a tool from a nice looking woman Thanks
Thanks for watching 🙌🏼
Even though I know a lot about this stuff your video still very helpful, thank you!
Excellent video, I just bought my first router (Ryobi) looking forward to use it after see this video. I am a beginner.
Yay! Be careful and good luck!!
Wow! Hello !!
Just discovered your channel !!
You’re a great instructor !!
Blessings, Sweetheart !
🙏🏼💜🌈
Thank you so much!
Great video very helpful and easy to understand
You made it look so easy 👏👏👏❤️
Thanks for the video Brandi, I'm new at using a router. I just bought a ryobi cordless handheld like what you're using for only $40 brand new at home depot and I don't really know how to use it yet. I will follow your advice about watching more videos. I'm a subscriber now.
Very informative and well made. Much appreciated. Thank you
So glad it was helpful ❤️
Thank you for your tutorial. Wonderful presentation.
Dang! Lol that is how it's done? I have been woodworking for about 2 years now as a hobby and I have been using a chisel and a sander hahahahahahahaha. I am definitely buying one because it's on sale :)
whoa I bet youre much better with the hand tools than I am! Sounds like you have great practice! You will like having this as an option I think though, Thanks for watching!!
Great video and demo. Very well done. I like that you had the camera on a tripod (guessing) and the lighting was perfect. Some You tubers hold the camera while doing the demo and the video is all over the place. But not you. Also, that you had your hair neatly in place when doing the demo (At the beginning I was wondering if you would do that). If you were being paid by Home Depot, they got their moneys worth.
Glad it was helpful! No this wasn’t a sponsored post just to be helpful 🙌🏻 thanks so much for the kind words.
Great video and lesson. I learned a lot!
Just a heads up a big plunge router might be bigger and cost you more but but has more options (more collars 1/2 and 1/4 and some have the option to attach to a router table). A router bit that is 1/2 is usally more stable.
Thanks I have a plunge as well! Thank you
Great video
I love your Kobalt miter saw in back
Thank you! I’ve since upgraded that it was a great saw
Watching this in 2021. Never thought I would say 2019 was the good old days! If only we knew what was coming!
Haha right?! Lol
Great starter video, thank you
Nice video. I’ve got one of these coming soon so I figured I’d see what others have done with it and you’ve given me a good heads up on how to handle it. Thanks for making this video.
I’ve got quite a bit of experience in the machine shop and wood shop so I should know what I need to do but I also know I’m always learning.
Happy New Year!
Hope you enjoy it! Its a great tool!
Great video! it was very clear and informative and your presentation skills are very polished! Just a question. I'm considering a router tool, and my question is what would I not be able to do with the Cordless trim router P601 that I can do with the corded 2.0hp plunge router?
The plunge router basically has a bit more power to do deeper cuts, while the trim is great for edge (trim) work and shallow grooves. I use my plunge when I cut 1.5” stock I still need to go in passes but not as many.
This is probably the best router breakdown I've seen yet. Thank you!
Wow, thanks!
Beautiful lady and woodworking. Love it. Could you make a video of using the flush trim bit? I'm not too sure on how to use it properly as it doesn't have the bearing at the bottom. Great video.
That’s a good idea! I’ll see what I can do! Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Never knew what a router... Thought it was a decorative shoe😁
This helped a lot, thanks for the vid mate
Thanks for watching
The 1st time I've ever seen you I just happen to be looking for ryobi router videos 1st of all you are beautiful something captivating about your face and I look forward to watching any one working videos I'm just considering getting around or to do some trim work
Well that’s the nicest comment I’ve had in awhile! Thank you so much for being kind and for the support! ❤️🙌🏼
Well i did buy one yesterday i didn't use it yet but i have a ton of scrap woord to practice on was hoping to doo all the kitchen drawers first
I just wish I had that sort of hand control, my stuff ALWAYS looks wobbly when I route
Using a pedal for shutoff maybe handy. You can keep your hands safe while turning off/on.
Lots and lots of routers have a trigger switch so as soon as you release the trigger the motor will
Turn off.
Thanks , Bronx-, N.Y.
Nicely explained, 👍
I was wondering how you keep your trim router from biting in too far? Your cuts are nice and straight....
I tried using my ryobi trim router straight out of the box on a nice antique dresser top and now have to replace that top. Is there supposed to be a guide of some sort on it or what? Do I purchase that separately? Please help! I don't want this to happen twice.
Yours should have come with an acrylic base or has a base plate built in, then you can set a strait line or faux fence with a straight piece of wood clamps at each end to follow for a straight cut
Great video! Thank you for the helpful explanations!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi, nice video. I am a home owner and i'm planning to do the woodworking maintenance at home myself and that is mending wooden things that are old and damaged and making new things like wooden cabinets, chairs etc. I'm not planning to start a woodworking business. One week ago i bought a plunge router and it is a heavy beast. Later on i saw the trim router on the internet and i think that would get more use after seen what you can do with a trim router. I'ts also lighter and more maneuverable. Question is do i still need to buy the trim router and keep the plunge router for heavy duty stuff? Or is it a waste of money to buy the trim router? Hope to hear from you soon. many thanks
Really good explanation. Thanks.
I’m now wishing I’d got the cordless trim. Bought corded Ryobi but the depth mechanism is way more sloppy and clumsy than what I see you using. I didn’t really know what to look for and can’t really justify buying another just now.
Oh honestly I think they both have their pluses and minuses haha these batteries die fast. 👊🏼😉
Nice video, thanks
Thank you
Hi, bought one of these yesterday and been practicing with it a little and your video has really helped with. Quick question though. Using the example in the video, what if you wanted to round the edge the entire length of the wood, how do you start at the corner when the bearing has no guide and when you come to the end, if the bearing has nothing to guide against will you not end up rounding up the corner as well as the edge (not sure if I’m explaining myself properly here)
I think I understand correctly and yes without a straight guide it will round around the corner. Is that what you mean? To avoid this and keep a 90°edge I use a long straight board as a guide clamped to the piece, and then take the round over past the edge on all four sides. Does that make sense?
Very informative! Great video! Subscribed :)
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Hi beautiful... Ur vdo simply awesome. Now let me know which n what type of router I should go for. I'm beginner and never used router. ❤
there is no need to use a fence as a guide as long as the bit has the bearing?
Yes!
Looks easy for you .....
the bits are 1/4?
NICE ONE
Thanks for this! I'm just getting started.
You got this! Thanks for watching
quite informative. I feel you need to insert the router bit, deeper than what you have shown. There should be just 1/8" gap between bottom of the bit and the collet nut.
awesome video
Nice very helpful I alway watched people do dados and stuff on table saw
Glad you enjoyed it
Cute Carpanter 👌
I am really loving you :) Awesome Video
Thank you for the kind comment
AWESOME VIDEO 👍😁
This was so helpful, thank you!
I’m so glad it was helpful!! Thank you for watching!!
Thanks for the info Brandi! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
U no i found someone like me that has a common love for wood.ur so cool
Thank you!! Nice of you to stop by! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Hi, is it possible to use this type of router to cut simple circles? If so, will it attach to a circle guide kit?
Yep that should work fine!
It makes a nice change to to see a lovley women showing us
Thanks!
I want to get into woodworking and one of my first jobs is replacing a tabletop. I want to cut a 3m surface into 2 1.5m surfaces. I read somewhere that a router can do this, but from watching this video I am not sure. Is a router what I need or maybe a circular saw? If the router can do it then I would like the router as I might do the edges.
if you are lookin to cross cut the piece than a circular saw with a guide would be best. If you are looking to thin a piece down you could use a router with a sled on both sides and make shallow passes until you reach your depth.
Can u do shaker doors with them. I struggle with where to put the router to start
Yes you can and it does take practice, there is usually an arrow showing which way to take the router
How did those router bits hold up? I need some but for what im doing i dont wanna spend too much. Im building speakerboxes so im using mdf.
They do well for a few runs to see what you like or for a few good projects
Great explanation!
Glad it was helpful!
Lose the music and speak louder, or mix the speech at a higher rate before posting. Great info and easy understandable instruction. TY. New sub and like!
Thank you mam
Love you and your video. Please tell me if I have to buy only one than which one, plunge or palm?? Urgent ma'am.
Hi loved your video, I’m just staring out I bought a small one as I would like to do signs hubby has a bigger one I’m struggling with what to use to work on I bought some clamps but bits of wood keep moving what sort of work bench should I head too for my new found hobbie
Great question let me see if I can find the info in a link for ya
I just like watching you. ♥️
Helpful. But like another commenter said, your volume is barely audible! Turn up the mic on future recordings!
Fantastic video. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Could you help me? I've never used a router. Ive honestly never done any wood work. I'm making a bookcase and i just installed my bit and tried on a piece of scrap wood. i tore the board up and it almost jumped out of my hand. All i want is to make the space that the shelf boards will sit in. The board is 3/4 in deep? My bit is 3/4 straight. Using a Dewalt compact router. I've watched a ton of videos and the trim work is awesome but not (joiners? i think)
SURE! My guess is that you need a guide to keep you straight and you need to take shallower passes. Start with the bit only lowered slightly so your taking less off each pass. Clamp that guide down and put the router down and go slowly along the guide then drop your bit a tiny bit more and just do more passes. Hopefully this helps. If you need more guidance head to my instagram and shoot me a DM.
If I want to go 1/8 deep on a board is there a setting for the depth?
you just have to rase the bit above the plate and measrue with a tape.
great demo thank u
Thanks for watching!
For beginners do you recommend plunge router or small hand router?
It depends on true project but probably hand trim router
Well done!
Thank you
Well done
This is pleasant I wish I new a lady woods craftswoman.
Now you know me! Haha
You should mention that you should disconnect the power from the router before changing out a bit.
Very good point! Thanks, mine is battery operated so I just have to take the battery off.
