Congrats Cara! What an achievement to be proud of. I’m in a book club with retired teachers and they have the most wisdom and intelligence I have ever witnessed. Congratulations!!!!! Next year will be my 4th year, so I still consider myself as a new teacher. I always love to see teachers getting support. After my first year, I felt like any support I get was from me culturing relationships with veteran teachers, and not from the school planning to give support to new teachers.

Congrats, that is awesome!!!! You’ll be fantastic! My son got hired out of his student teaching and already has 2 informal mentors, one of whom is also his landlord lol. He’s starting his career at a country school, very few major problems there other than $$$, but it’s 2024 and he’ll be making about $35k. I’m glad he can afford to ease in to teaching, in the city we live in, 10% of kids have seen weapons at school, which is prob low, but we’re little house in the prairie vs cities.
I’m sooo thrilled for you! Such fabulous news. I have several teachers in my family here in the UK and it is a very tough profession now… it seems as if they are doing a lot of social work as well as education. With your personality and approach to life, you’re going to be a great mentor!! 🎉🎉🎉

Ive been teaching for 25 years. It will be 26 in September. Being self contained is a lot but i love seeing how my students excel in different subjects and i like keeping the same kids all day. Congratulations to you 🎉🎉

Congratulations. I’ve been nursing for 20 years too. And I’ve been I’ve for a year and half on mat leave and I decided to apply to a different area in the hospital. More critical care. I start the new position the first week of July. I’m nervous but excited. I feel like it’s time to pivot also. So excited for you and your new position. Have a great vacation. Oh my gosh! Were you a part of The New Teacher Project Fellows certification program? If so, I was the Training and Instruction Manager for the Texas Teaching Fellows in the Dallas area from around 2008 to 2012. The Texas Teaching Fellows program was stellar! I helped run our site, oversaw the curriculum and teaching portion of the program for our site, managed and mentored our instructors and observers for the "Fellows" (i.e., new teachers), and helped make certification decisions. I originally earned my teaching certification through The University of Texas at Austin back in the 1990s, and I taught ninth-grade English for six years directly after graduating college. I really could have used the TNTP-TTF program when I was in my first year of teaching because I felt like I had little to no support. And despite going through a semester of student teaching at UT, I had to learn so much on the job. My first year of teaching was the hardest career year of my life, and I was in tears daily . . . and so exhausted! I think people who aren't in education don't understand what teachers go through on a daily basis. I now work remotely with students one-on-one. Congratulations on completing 20 years of teaching and on the mentor position! You will do a wonderful job! I'm excited for you and your new chapter. You have so much to give to others, and those teachers will be lucky to have you as their mentor!💜
I’m not a teacher but got to assist a colleague with a project that put cohorts of paraprofessionals thru school & gave extra support for them to become degree’d teachers. At 2024 grad, I got to see the modern version of the program, and over 20% of grads were Native American teachers-to-be, including a 60+ yr old man, all part of a cohort from the two year tribal college, all going home to help their nations thrive! If you haven’t seen American Indian graduation regalia, check it out! I told high school juniors about my experience, they were Apsaalooke people, they immediately started planning the regalia they would wear in 6+ years (some can be bought, but the most prized items must be made by hand, pref the old way - your relatives need to hunt 16 elk to make the best dress)! I love the way these cohort programs have grown - the group support is amazing.
