    Hi Dr. Knudsen and Dr. Jayaprikash! Thanks for the informative videos. My question for you involves shock loss:
    I have a 1x2 inch hairless birthmark on the crown of my scalp which I intend to get surgically removed in the near future. I’ve been on Finasteride and Minoxidil for close to a year and have recovered about 70% of my hair from a previous diffuse Norwood 3. Do you think surgery would affect my hair gains in any way from possible shock loss?

    From your experience, What is the highest dosage of finasteride that people who get sideeffects on 1mg/day can tolerate? I suppose 0.5mg/day but how often do you need to go even lower than that for some patients?

      I agree with me as well, using sea salt has helped calm my scalp down. I also had good results with salicylic acid once in a while. Both compounds are very drying so I use other products in between, my scalp is excessively oily if I don't exfoliate.

    Thank you for your videos they are very informative and user friendly. I’ve been using Spironolactone 100mg BID, irestore cap every other day, vitamins, 5% topical minoxidil and derma rolling plus topical 5% minoxidil for two months for severe traction alopecia , I also stopped using extensions that cause traction to my natural hair and have had amazing results on the bald spots that had developed on the sides of my head. I just began using Finasteride a week ago (5mg) because I’m hoping to treat my all over hair thinning from age (I’m 51).
    My question is - I hate the way the minoxidil makes my hair look and feel. I’m wondering if I can start taking the oral minoxidil and stop taking the topical - but If I do will I lose the hair that I grew with the topical minoxidil? And will I go through another phase of shedding?
    Thank you

    Hey guys, thanks for sharing all this info. I have been willing to use minoxidil and finasteride for a long time. However, I have had a kidney transplant in 2016 and use quite some medicines. I know you have said that finasteride and minoxidil should in theory not interact with my medicines. My question isif you ever had (kidney) transplant patients before and if the experience with above treatment was positive

    Stellar series. The best on UA-cam Thank you!!
    QUESTIONS.
    1. Sebum. What is the importance of cleaning sebum build up in the follicles to better receive minoxidil and LLLT? I’m talking about a regimental sebum focused cleanser.
    2. PSA. You stated in previous episodes that you don’t do pre treatment bloodwork. Isn’t it important to have a baseline PSA before finasteride treatment? How should PSA results be interpreted after taking finasteride? I’ve seen a multiplier used but it’s ambiguous. Is PSA testing effective during treatment or is it back to a finger in the bum?
    3. I’ve read that prostate cancer can be more aggressive after taking finasteride for many years. Can you comment on this?
    I was prescribed finasteride in Canada five years ago. Looked at the pill bottle for five years and didn’t take it for fears derived from the internet. I opted for high quality LLLT and it didn’t seem to do anything (or maybe it did as the result of not having done it is impossible to know). Thanks to you, I’ve built up my confidence and feel genuinely informed to take finasteride on the dosage you prescribed. I started today (new prescription BTW). THANK YOU!!

    @The Hair Loss Show, great show, i really like professional approach to hair loss subject and how much value it gives to ppl with hair lost.
    Dr Vikram, what is your opinion on nanoxidil as an alternative to minoxidil treatment and claim, effects aren't lost after stopping treatment. In short, i went from norwood 1 to 7 within 1 year, about 10y ago and it didn't progress further. I finally decided to make a small hair transplant (due to not big donor area) just to make small natural front, rest of head i want cover with SMP next year. I'm on Finasteride, but i'm scary to use minoxidil, as i have no idea how it will affect color of pigment color, after i'll do SMP next year, so i'm worried i would need to stop it and effect might reverse, so i was considering nanoxidil to use it for around 9 months before i'll have SMP, then stop using it. Do you have any insight on nanoxidil? Thank you in advance

    Hi guys, I think the videos are amazing and have helped me a lot. In your experience, are side effects (like depression, gyno) more likely to happen in patients that have previously had these conditions? Thanks

    • @Untefelehrr
      @Untefelehrr 3 роки тому +2

      I suppose it would be so if you have a depressive condition in the first place
      I myself have bipolar disorder and I had a really bad depressive episode one month after starting finasteride , I had to stop de treatment , even though it was pretty clear there were other factors than finasteride for the depression.
      However, since then I have been back on mood stabilizers , and reintroduced the finasteride later , all good so far for me ! I don't feel it causes me that anymore, but it's probably because I am stabilised , I don't know what finasteride alone would do , but certainly the depression adverse effect isn't invented at all and finasteride is a factor of depression itself.
      In other words, it may be wise to consult a psychiatrist beforehand to try to determine if your condition was punctual and restricted to very specific life events or if it could be that you have some biological and neurological predispositions for depression

    Is there any logic in starting Finasteride for a while before starting minxoidil so that way your growth is not reliant on minoxidil quite as much? Been seeing some thoughts on this of people wishing they did more time of Finasteride prior to any Minox - the logic is that hairs that came back from Minox will be reliant on Minox, and therefor will be lost and it may be too late for those follicles to be restored effectively by Finasteride at that point. Any thoughts on this? @hair loss show

    62 years old, and started a month ago with finasteride and minoxidil. I’ve always had pretty good hair, but noticed a bit of thinning and wanted to do some thing about it …using the liquid minoxidil and 1 mg per day fin.
    The 1 mg per day. Finasteride was giving me brain fog, low sex, drive and grogginess to the point where I’ve backed off the 3 mg for a week as directed by these doctors. I guess everyone’s different, and I feel a lot better, besides finasteride it’s just an agent to keep your hair in place and not to lose any more …minoxidil is where it’s at., And I’ve been using that religiously now for about a month. So far so good losing some small hairs here and there. No big deal but that’s expected. this is all just a waiting game to let the therapy take root,, literally.

    Is it possible that post-finasteride syndrome is confused with the long time the drug remains on the skin? It is said that a simple dose of 1mg can remain on the skin for at least 30 days, so daily intake would lead to an over-accumulation in the body. In addition, it takes 3-6 months for the body to rid itself of the drug.

    I have been having oral finastride for about 3 months. I see hair growth on those areas where it's already thick initially, but nothing much changes to the middle of the head where hair loss occurs more seriously. Should I continue to consume it?

    • @7ero_
      @7ero_ 3 роки тому +3

      If you want to maintain the hair you have left, yes. It is the best drug atm that will help you from blocking DHT. Also give it a year or so to see the full effect. And if you're not happy with how thick your hair is try minoxidil. You should know that at the beginnning you will be shedding alot. That means it's working. It will make room for thicker hair. So don't stop if you'll start using minoxidil. You'll lose all the gains you make if you stop using. So the keep the result you have to use it for the rest of your life. Eventually it will become a routine like brushing your teeth.
      Wish you the best of luck.

      5 mg is there for different purposes. No evidence that it will work better for hair. Stick to 1 mg or 1/4 of the 5 mg which is about 0.25 mg above recommend dose for hair.

    I think many people would love to know if hair becomes dependant on minoxidil? If that’s the case, should you only apply to problem areas, or cover the entire scalp?
    If it minoxidil only remains effective for 7 years (so I’ve read), would the dependency on minoxidil wear out your hair after the efficacy is over?
    Thanks a lot for all the content

I´m contemplating quitting the Minox completely but I´m scared that it will cause a huge period of shedding. Tough call. I appreciate your advice.
