Renée Fleming and Thomas Hampson are a pair of operatic aficionados, historians, academics and wonderful raconteurs as well as outstanding artists. Renée's young girls sat in the row in front of us at a gala in Edinburgh in 2004. Hearing her sing was one of the most beautiful and glorious days of my life. She kindly did a signing after the gala and I was completely starstruck when meeting her. She made me cry with her beautiful voice and artistry. A wonderful day with beautiful memories.

Absolutely fascinating! Two of my favorite artists. But I have to interject one name into the conversation about crossover: Eileen Farrell. She had an epic operatic voice, as well as a completely legit pop/jazz voice. It was hard to believe it could be the same singer. I have really enjoyed Renee’s forays into jazz, and Thomas is the greatest interpreter of Stephen Foster.
