prior to the construction of the air itam bypass, the construction site contained an abandoned quarter whenever I jogged around the tun sardon area during my a-level period in 2012 and 1st half of 2013. I still vividly remember the kampung buah pala protests against the construction of the oasis condo in 2009 which is currently replaced by the new Taman Buah Pala with its signage at its entrance.
I am quite disappointed with the local gov. For all projects and constructions, they do not have an official side to disclose the masterplan and the progress of the projects. Very oftern, the public do not have what actually building by the gov. And even the result of they they built will 100% different than what they annouced from the very beginning.
I love Penang but the biggest stress wherever I am back is the traffic congestion! The volume of high density condo buildings is also worrying as there seems to be a lack of infrastructure to cope with the anticipated traffic!! Think more should now be concentrated with the mainland! Penang Lang should be less nervous about living over there if the transport infrastructure improves across the water!! The other subject is the maintenance of some the condos around the island! I noticed that some are in a bad state of painting as it looks really horrible being all blackened by the weather! It’s quite abit of an eyesore and scary looking not a good advertisement for this beautiful island!!?Any government plans to enforce compliance to redecorate the exterior of there flats??
Hi Timothy, Thanks for the post. It seems as though the DAP Government is punishing Penang by approving the construction of these horrible residential projects. Poor infrastructure planning and high density projects will definitely result in poor quality of life, which I'm sure nobody wants! Penangites who love this once beautiful island should do something to save Penang from this destruction, which seems to have become the norm. Also, I just wonder if these ugly high-rise, high density buildings are actually constructed to withstand tremors and quakes. They seem to be getting closer to our region each time they strike...

Thanks for sharing your insight. I always love to hear from people's knowledge of the site.
