Walking Pulau Tikus, Penang

- Join me on a fascinating half-hour narrated walk around Pulau Tikus, a charming neighborhood in Penang, Malaysia. In this video, I explore its major sights, including the vibrant Wat Chaiyamangkalaram (home to the famous Reclining Buddha), the serene Dhammikarama Burmese Temple, and the historic Church of the Immaculate Conception.
As we stroll along the streets, I share the rich history of Pulau Tikus and its early communities, including the Thais, Burmese, and Eurasians who once called this place home. Learn how Pulau Tikus got its unique name, inspired by the nearby islet of the same name ("Pulau Tikus" means "mouse island" or "rat island"), a nod to the Eurasian settlers who arrived by sampan near this small isle.
Discover the cultural and historical treasures of Pulau Tikus as we walk and explore together!

❤❤❤❤ I am a native of Pulau Tikus and was living there till I was 20 when I left for the UK to do my medical studies. Really great to see that it is still almost the same more than 40 years later.
I have since spent months and years living and working in practically all the different countries of the world AND I FIND THAT MALAYSIA AND ESPECIALLY PENANG THE BEST AND MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO LIVE IN AND THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE IN THE WORLD THAT IS BETTER THAN PENANG.😂😂❤
Wah! Thank you for choosing Pulau Tikus and Penang!!

Walking down memory lane for me. I'm Eurasian and my family lived in Pulau Tikus on Burmah Rd
Thank you, Philomena!
Thank you.. 👍🤗✌️🚶😘
Thank you so much Eddy for visiting my video.
Greetings from Penang. Kam Siah.
Thank you so much!
Shortly I shall be walking up the Burma Road for dinner at the Zen Xin vegetarian restaurant in Nagore Square. Not quite as far as Lorong Bangkok though! Sadly my two months stay in George Town comes to an end on Saturday. But the weather this trip has been extraordinary. Hot sunshine pretty much every day and rain only at night. Wonderful.
Have fun! I will be doing a walk along Burmah Road one of these days. Since it's such a long road, I might have to break it into more than one video, and provide interpretation on the sights along the way.
Hello,
Your videos are good and educative.
I am fond of history and street names.
I was in penang in 2017, my sister stayed in jelutong and I have been through lot of streets in penang island.
I am coming hopefully next month to meet my sister who is now staying in mainland butterworth.
I will cycle the streets and hope to learn more about the streets.
I really enjoy your videos. Good talent of explaining,. Thanks.
Thank you so much. My videos offer only a "tip of the iceberg". If you want to know more about the streets in Penang, you need to go to my website. Here's a list of the streets in Penang that I have described:

Thank you!
You're welcome!
You missed going into my road, Lorong Pulau Tikus.
Oh yes. Maybe in future, I will do another walk that will include it. I want to walk all over!
Timothy, knows pulau tikus very well since 30+ years ago (was living in solok pierce). Will be good to meet you when we come back around middle of the year!
God willing, we might!
How about a walk-about video along Malay Street in Georgetown? A memorable place. Videos abt Penang scenes in the olden 1970s would be great.
Yes, that would indeed be possible. Let me do the research on the street, and one day I go for a walk there.
I'm a Penangnite. I am very interested in the historical background of those buildings, like when they were built, which well known figure ever reside there, and any significant event happened there. It would be even better if you could show us old photos of those places.
I have information of thousands of places on my website. Go to www.penang-traveltips.com and start searching. As a general rule, however, I usually do not show old photos. Almost all the photos on my website are taken by me, and I prefer it that way, even if it is about very old places such as the Protestant Cemetery (www.penang-traveltips.com/protestant-cemetery.htm) or Runnymede (www.penang-traveltips.com/runnymede.htm).
@@discoverwithtimothy Ya, I knew you from that website. I just hope you could include them in your video.
There is Pulau Tikus Island at Tanjung Bungah. I thought that's where Pulau Tikus got its name.
Yes sir, that's the island that gave the Pulau Tikus suburb its name:
