Amazing. I owned an asr-10 20 years ago. I loved it. Did everything with it and took it every where. It has a special place in my heart. I am happy to see and hear that it is still being appreciated and loved.
    Thanks for the great demo.

THE ASR-10 sounds a lot better, the MPC 3000 is overhyped because of Dilla, the only thing good about the 3000 is the sequencer. An 2000XL midi controlling an S950 and S1000 will sound infinitely better than an MPC 3000. Sorry to be a myth buster but as a sampler the MPC 3000 is mediocre at best.

The ASR 10 is still one of the most best true to sound samplers ever. I have had mine for years and have the entire sound library. It's still my go to when I want to get warm analog sounds. The price value on this keyboard up. People really know it's reputation. Thanks for sharing.

The Ensoniq EFX engine is unique.. I've never come across another effects unit that can do 2+ *minutes* of reverb. All of the other effects algorithms are top-notch but the Hall reverbs in this respect are truly unique. For ambient sounds there is no replacement.. other than an Ensoniq DP-2 or DP-4 of course, which are the same EFX units in a dedicated rack.
Someone making modern gear emulations *really* needs to look at re-implementing these algorithms as the original gear is getting older and harder to find. And Dr. Dattorro, the mind behind these algorithms, may not be around forever!

These vintage samplers are so popular you’d think new devices that mimic their sound and function (with improvements due to innovative tech) would be marketable. At least a software emulator ought to be.

I bought an ASR, new. It has always just had “that sound”. One of those magic machines. Makes you wonder how much was luck, in the design process. & how much was intent. They couldn’t have known how regarded it would be, so many years/decades later.

What's up man!!!!!!!! Thanks for watching!!!!!!! Yep!!! I've always like the way their samplers sounded. You can hear hints of the ASR-10's DNA in the Mirage. It almost sounds like it was just their personal taste more than anything.

@daydreamsound it’s too bad Ensoniq had to end. The dream of having an all in one (mirage->ASR workstation) with modern memory w/ classic filter & bit rate switching would be a game changer. I have dreams of selecting 13bit w/ analog filter & editing my favorite effects selections while sequencing & sampling all in one unit. Uploading my tracks to PC to finish tracking. What would I do with my old gear? Art show, of course

My ASR10 is going with me when i leave..I think what it gives that is different is something close to harmonics. I not only sample with it,I use it while I am spinning vinyl and doing mix projects, triggering samples I made, using some disk sounds, and placing effects on what's running though it. It shines with instruments, with voices, and brings it all home, and if you only rip records with it, you are never tapping into it's vast potential. I cannot imagine spinning in a club without the Ensoniq ASR10 rack model..I have 5 samplers and I will always come back home to ASR...

The effects around 8:30 to 9 minute mark make me want one as an external effects unit. That's a lot of processing strain taken off a CPU right there if it can do that to incoming audio.

Liked the effect that sounded like loop points (length?) change as well as loop type (forward / reverse) dynamically, in very creative way. How it was done? I guess it should be possible to do on EPS16+ as well?

The Daydream Sound , thanks a lot for the reply. Now I understand. I haven’t played with Transwaves much yet, but they were one of the reasons to get EPS16+ (thanks to your channel!). BTW: Yamaha A-series samplers also can modulate sample start point, but it is static after note is played (note on). So you have to re-trigger often to achieve roughly similar effect. But there are neat options for pitch bend action, such as “slow”, “slow & reverse”. Anyway, Ensoniqs are much better for real-time loop manipulation.

    • @TheDaydreamSound
      @TheDaydreamSound  4 роки тому

You're welcome man!!! I'm just using loop position modulation in this video but you could use just about anything on the Ensoniq samplers to move the position of the sample start/end around. I really gotta check out the Yamaha A-series samplers at some point. I've heard so much about them!

Heres a reason... What goes in, comes out....
A analog sound sampled into the ASR , is a facsimile.....
    Thats hard to do...
But also.. you can red line the AD (like they do in mastering...)...
Simply... NO other company has the headroom in its AD... Nor in its DA in a sampler since.....(well, lets just say, 32bit isnt really the answer... follow?) . 12db boost for drums anyone?
What ever you decide to do after that, its your choice.... I love my ASR.

Nobody LIKES ads, but literally this man can put 200 of them in a video and I wouldn't hesitate, because that video would still be fire. This man's contributions to the music production and synthesizer communities are monumental. He is THE knowledge source and expertise on Ensoniq sampling synthesizers. Guarantee that at least one of the people making the music you listen to has either conversed, learned and or purchased something from Daydream. This IS his job... so unless you looping 128 samples on some transwaves: beat it, and let the man do the job.
