    I got the live 2 and the ONE. I started with the 5000. You’re not wrong on the software side of things sometimes not working for certain companies. But I promise you these new MPC’s, more often than not, work as they should. No issues. The plugins imo made me use the thing more. I don’t even need my 404mk2. It makes the live 2 perfect for just sitting around and getting from start to finish on the machine. These new MPC’s are meant to take you away from the “traditional” computer.

      Thanks for rocking with me 💯 I’ve seen some great feedback from users of the new MPC hardware unit; I can’t speak on it much since I haven’t dived into the new era of AKAI. My perspective is more from someone who still uses the older gear and what they have to continue to improve as a producer. I have no doubt that they work as advertised for the most part and people are creating great music and getting placements from these pieces as well. As long as we’re making music and expressing our art; all is well. Thank you for tuning in 🙏🏽

      The new mpcs are fboy machines that are software and sound awful, they are disgustingly poor, just type in "buried my mpc" on here and you'll see a video with fools bragging about going through 4 new mpcs. They ate not even made by Akai they are made by a cheap Chinese company called inmusic. You've drank the fboy kool aid and been suckered by he advertising.

    Hey thanks for this. I always just used asr slaved to 2000xl. Wanted to get into using asr as a sequencer to learn it more recently and add back in my workflow. Had the machine since 09 and never pushed the engine outside of chopping and slaving it so this was good info.
    Still can’t find a 6sr 😮‍💨
    I used to put a click track before for 1 bar dropping everything one by one each track in to sync timings. I guess not as necessary now with the the daw ability to line up waves easily. I do not want to lose the swing though with some things purposely slightly off grid and doing that manually for me feels inconsistent w my daw skills.
    Also just got the scsi flash recently and am lost as well😂
    Always just used the floppy’s but that’s def tiring with corrupted disks in 2024z

      Thank you for tuning in! 🙏🏽 Definitely join the Ensoniq Users Group on Facebook. Someone on there recreated the expansion board and will be selling them soon. There's also a new OLED screen that was recently created by a member there since these units usually go bad in that area.
      I use the click method when I'm sequencing with my 2kXL; I tend to do things more by ear when working with the ASR which, I think is a good thing even if its not exact when you track it out. Sometimes you just gotta trust your own rhythm and feel the music ❤️‍🔥

      @@freeplaysamples do we know if the converters will be the same?
      Since the asr is all about its Sonics it would be counterintuitive if not just to ease work flow of dumping it.
      Though I always heard the expander even doesn’t have the same conversion as the main puts but I never had one and could be an old wives tale people used to justify not buying one 😂

    • @freeplaysamples
      @freeplaysamples  7 місяців тому +1

      Here's the link to the person's page that designed it and is going to be selling them soon: facebook.com/zincircuits
      To answer your question: The converters are not the same since he mentions the IC (integrated circuit) are too expensive and not being made anymore. He most likely used similar quality parts but it won't "sound" exactly the same as an OEM expander. I think that the convenience it provides (being able to separate your outs for tracking) is worth it even if it's not sonically exact to the original. The outs on the expander (OEX-6sr original) do sound a bit different than the stereo outs of the ASR from what I can remember. I can't wait to get an Audio Interface or decent mixer to send my ASR through. Hope this helps 💯

      @@freeplaysamples thank you my brother. You the man. This can be a good substitute for a while. Once the market realizes they can buy these the average user will use these and the classic ones should become normal again in price cause only the ocd guys like us may care lol.
      So it’s a win all around I think, he seems to mention you can source and swap the other part on your own but it’s expensive. Can’t be more than what they’re selling the expanders for though currently so this could be fantastic long term.

    Long time ASR user here, as well as the ASR-X, and EPS 16+. I have never thought of tracking out that way, interesting, I will try that. I prefer using midi clock. Yes there may be milliseconds of latency but there is a Max4Live device you can use to realign the tracks with one click. Alot of times, at least for me the latency is almost nothing and the Max4Live device isnt needed. Thanks for the video!

    No need to transfer if you can use it as a sound module and cut out the headaches and go straight to daw. I sample in the asr, tune it to taste then play it once thru my mixer into the pc

    • @freeplaysamples
      @freeplaysamples  7 місяців тому +1

      This is awesome advice; I used my ASR this way for a long time. These days, I enjoy slowing down my process and have a lot of fun creating on the ASR or 2kXL first. Using these machine's sequencers and doing things by ear gives me a different perspective and ideas on my music. Once I have a few inspiring sequences that I want to work into a song, I then go ahead and transfer to DAW and keep working it in the PC. There's no wrong way and the way you mention could be more efficient for many creatives. Appreciate you tuning into the channel. 💯🫡

    • @WaynePryce
      @WaynePryce 7 місяців тому +1

      @freeplaysamples bro, I've lost more projects doing it that way. I never got the hang of saving on my 2k, and my asr the disks began to deteriorate so I said fcuk it man..I know what you mean by working the machines but the work flow is not my thing. I might buy the mpc 37 cz I like some features, and I'll be able to start and save a song a lot easier. Other than that I'm using them as sound modules

    • @freeplaysamples
      @freeplaysamples  7 місяців тому

      I hear you; I haven’t lost any projects yet I usually transfer to my DAW once I’m feeling a vibe. Sh!t; my ASR has been on for like 3 days recently working on a track. No wrong way and gotta do what works for you. I haven’t tried any of the new MPC’s and have heard horror stories of users not being able to create because their machines can’t connect to the internet or verify plug-ins. Very hesitant to move to the new workflow although I know a lot of professionals and big producers have moved on from this old way of working; I still have the time and the patience. Good luck with your new 37 when you get it and thanks for rocking with me 💯🙌🏽

      Is there somewhere good to send you a dm to get some more info? Am also lost w the Zulu mini, mine worked out the box but I’m afraid to do much with it and mess up the directories since I know there is 38.
      Also for some reason mine came on 4 and the size of 4 is a different size recognized then the others it’s larger despite having the os on it already.
      It’s a bit confusing since I know the various drives also aren’t supposed to exceed 2gb or something even though the “drive” sd card is a 64 gb

      Nothing is quick or immediate when working with these old samplers. For example when using an ASR-10 it is recommended to normalize your samples to gain match the source and that command can take some time to process depending on the length of the sample. Lots of time spent waiting for the MPC 2kXL to show you the waveform in the trim window if you have a long sample, etc. This is mid-1990s technology so these processes take long; relative to how immediate we are use to things working in 2024. When you use this gear you’re normally going for a sonic quality or workflow that you are use to or like. Some producers like that these tools help slow them down and think critically about their approach to creating. There are many ways to go about getting the sounds or your song into a daw for further manipulation/mixing. Use what works for your workflow and gives you the end result you seek. Staying in the box or using a modern sampler could definitely speed up your workflow and is much faster/less tedious for many producers. Thanks for tuning in! 💯
