@@annikan42 That's because since feminism succeeded in giving women equal rights, the feminist movement got co-opted by sexist authoritarian extremists who worshiped femininity and hated men due to daddy issues. Most people ignored them for decades, until the whole TERF movement started and new age feminism exposed it's true nature to the world: sexist man haters which also includes trans women in their eyes. They literally worship the female sex and it's disgusting, and any deviation of their sacred order is met with their judgement. (doxxing, swatting, and death+r-word threats) Feminism has literally become a cult and it's scary, when only 40-60 years ago it was all about providing equal rights and opportunity for women and all other other minorities. Now it's about the glorification of the "divine feminine" or some other pseudo religious occult new age crap and the purging of all dissenters who dare mess with the "natural order." They are (cis) female supremacists and must me stopped at all costs.
@@annikan42 exactly! I saw someone give the definition of "men can fertilize women cannot" and it completely excludes anyone that is infertile, like they have lost their manlyhood/womanhood. I will never understand how people don't get that there can't be a definition of gender without excluding people. Like, if you have a similar definition but are ok with trans people, I guess that's fine. But people suddenly try to define what was never meant to be defined, unless you're a fan of the patriarchy, is wild to me.

“Men can’t lactate.” That part of her speach on biology bothered me because they absolutely can! Cis men have mammary glans just like cis women, however undeveloped. Cis men with higher estrogen can lactate, and after enough stimulation, you can even get cis men with average hormones to lactate. I’ve heard of cis men stimulating their chests to be able to breast feed their children before! It’s absolutely false and really just extrapolates the fact that she doesn’t know anything about what she is talking about.

Promoting the idea that males can lactate enough to breastfeed their children as long as they have enough stimulation will only lead to disappointment for most individuals. While male lactation does happen, if they’re producing amounts plentiful enough to nourish a child, that’s usually a sign of an underlying condition.
Edit: So, I looked it up, and a male with milk production indicates an underlying medical problem, such as pituitary tumors, cirrhosis of the liver, or a side-effect from medication.

Right?! I had the same reaction as you!! Kids should be taught to be unabashedly curious about our world, not afraid of it. But that is what frightened parents do - teach fear. All it does is cripple their children’s potential, limit their brain capacity, and box them irrevocably into an echo chamber few escape from unscathed.

It is basically the same as these conservatives that get up in arms over the "horror" of an idea of having to explain a same-sex marriage to their small children. There's no problem explaining it to the children themselves, the problem is they are unable to get over their own bigotry to do it.
I'm 14 and my parents are both LGBTQ+, and most of my friends are LGBTQ+, and I'm not in the LGBTQ+ community, so I have no idea why these conservatives are so bothered by LGBTQ+. It's not like some epidemic, you can't "catch the gay."

Same I never saw a problem with trans people growing up ? My parents are a bit transphobic too and I just never understood why it bothered them . I don’t care and never did why people cared about it .
I remember seeing this documentary about a young trans girl when I was a child. I had no clue what being trans was and all I could think was „ok so she’s happy now? Cool.“ and that was it. It’s literally that simple. And that example she mentioned (if I’m not mistaken) was literally when she was an adult? It’s baffling to me

I really think it depends on how you get "introduced" to it as a child. You are very vurnerable to anything as a kid and if you see a newspaper article with shocking photos etc, that might go into your subconsious and manifest a different opinion to it. I remember reading articles about trans women as a child and I was just like "Well, there are different kinds of people I guess, huh", nothing more or less.

the thing is though, hormones DOMINATE your body. it changes your primary and secondary sex traits and your gross morphology and your mental state. in my opinion it is the single most influential factor in practical sex.
There have been plenty of trans females on TikTok and Twitter saying that they have a cycle, similar to a menstrual cycle and experience cramps exactly like menstrual cramps, just bevause they are on estrogen. This is categorically false. They dont have a uterus and therefor dont experience uterine cramping, or shed uterine lining or have mentruation. Im all for people doing whatever they want and identifying however they want,... but thats doesnt erase physiology.
And the cramping they are experiencing is gas.

I'm a year older than Bethany. I remember the story of the pregnant man on the cover of a magazine. I was at first like wtf?? I'm so confused. I looked into it and then I just wasn't that blown away. I was more intrigued by the dynamics of him and his wife's relationship and thought it was really cool. It was eye-opening and gave a glimpse into how different other people's lives can be. No judgment, just thought it was really rad.
Same! I was about nine when the story came out and I remember seeing an advert for a documentary about it. I was confused, because I had always thought only women could have babies (didn't know what transgender was at the time), but it didn't upset or bother me at all.
It's interesting how she claimed she was a "kid" when she saw the magazine cover - implying that children are instinctively disturbed by transgender people - when in actuality she was an adult, with years of bigoted indoctrination under her belt.
I heard about it from a friend during Sunday school when I was six or so, and I thought it was really cool, because I thought men having babies was impossible. I didn’t even really know how babies were born at that point so it was essentially just “people with mustaches and short hair are men”….lmao and I was much younger than her. It didn’t disturb me in the slightest. She’s just trying to put up this argument that “trans people are scary/harmful to children” when she’s just a shitty person who spreads “loving” beliefs by devaluing others

I haven’t menstruated in two years due to cancer treatment. I find inclusive terms like “people who get pregnant” or “people who menstruate” to be more specific and more useful.

I know as a woman I don’t want to be called my body functions, everyone says we have to stand up for women so they’re equal but as soon as a bio woman wants to be called a woman they’re called transphobic, a bigot, rude, evil, gross, not inclusive, etc. so now real women are just things that give birth and bleed? I've actually known men can lactate for a while now because my mom is a psychiatrist and some anti-depressants can actually induce this as a side effect in males. That was her "shovel talk" jokes to me when my sisters and I started dating guys. "If they break your heart, I'll prescribe a med to make them lactate!" It was obviously a joke but still stuck with me and makes me even more pissed about breasts being sexualized when it's LITERALLY THAT SAME TISSUE WITH THE SAME POSSIBLE FUNCTION IN ALL HUMANS REGARDLESS OF SEX!
So yeah, if a cis man wanted to breastfeed, he probably could with the right hormone therapy. Not sure how those hormones would affect the quality of milk but it's promising to me that trans women/non-binary folk are being offered this option now instead of being laughed at or made fun of for wanting this close connection with their child.
A man's body doesn't create the the nutritional value of a woman's. It's not the same thing it's like shooting blanks there's something there but it's not the entire thing.
That’s so awesome! From what I’ve read trans women’s milk tends to be just as high quality as a cis women’s, the fat levels are on average a bit higher, but that’s in no way bad for the baby :)
As a cis gal, I've never felt "erased" by inclusive language. Calling people "people," is not this outrageous thing. People give birth, people menstruate, people have pen15s. I was very Christian as a child and I remember that headline and the dateline interview about the pregnant man. I was 9 at the time and didn’t understand it at all, but I vividly remember thinking about it a lot and the conclusion I came to as a child was ‘Mary had a child without a man, so this must be a miracle. He wouldn’t have gotten pregnant if god didn’t want him to.’
It’s so interesting to me that she jumped straight to disgust. I felt no repulsion. I thought it was beautiful because I believed god was kind and loved every man woman and child. It feels clear to me that she doesn’t believe in an objectively benevolent and loving god. Why would a kind and loving god give us free will if they would condemn us for using it in the pursuit of our own happiness and love?

I'm only two years younger than her and my dad told me about trans people when I was super young, it never shocked me 😅 And we didn't talk that much about it in the 90s, he just told me that people are born a certain sex and change it because that's who they truly are (he didn't use the term "gender" because again, we didn't talk about this much and certain things were still less known). I was like "oh okay" 🤷🏼♀️

Usually that's basically all their "brand" exists for. It's the same with some political parties who decided to attack trans people or even worse, trans children: they don't want to tackle actual problems, they want to be able to spread fear, hate and rile up their voters so much that it will have real-world consequences, like banning healthcare, but also probably causing more physical violence towards trans people, because some people will reason: "That person in government is hateful of you, so now I can be to, right?"
It's eh, weirdly enough their trademark: they accuse us of being overly obsessed with gender and our sexual identity, accusing us of wanting more rights than them, or upon a law change request requesting that laws that exist for cis-people to be a thing of the past.
They can't comprehend (and don't want to, because it would mean they admit they were wrong earlier) that we don't want extra rights, but just the same rights as some cis-people unknowingly had for years, along with basically this: "We only request society to take people who do not fit "Male" or "Female" as a box to tick into account more."
It does though its being taught to our kids and being forced down our throats and if we just even have questions about it we get called phobes. People are trying to make it a law to misgender someone where you can literally go to jail for accidently doing it yea I'd say that affects her me and you.

As a Christian (and LGBTQ+ ally) it really upsets me when other christians try to use our religion to mistreat trans people, non-binary people, etc. like she said, we’re specifically taught to love, treat others how we want to be treated, and to never judge others (because that’s God’s job not ours). Even if the Bible says being LGBTQ+ is a sin (only the white-washed versions say that) who cares! It doesn’t affect you or me! Its no wonder why so many young adults today who were raised religious are now athiest/agnostic… 🤦♀️

I remember seeing that pregnant man in the news back then. I would have been younger than Benthany, but I specifically remember seeing the news and being like "Oh, cool" and went on with my life. Not trying to pat myself on the back or anything, but its really not hard at all to just be a decent, non bigoted person.
I actually remember when the pregnant trans man was in the news (I believe he was Canadian? Sth like that). My extremist religious family didn't even blink an eye at it, saying "How is that possible? Oh, cause its a transgender man, that's boring, i thought science was advancing". We kids just agreed

When I was little I found out one of my camp counselors was trans. My mom tried to explain but I freaked out and started crying. This is because I was under the impression that my camp counselor was a boy who one day suddenly became a girl. I thought it was a full transformation that could happen over night to anyone. Once my mom calmly explained that she didn’t just transform into a girl one day out of nowhere I calmed down and was cool with it.

i remember the “pregnant man” headlines, and i grew up in a small town in the bible belt so it’s not like it was explained to me in the most appropriate terms. but i’m 7 years younger than bethy and i understood the concept of what was going on, mostly because it’s literally the only plausible explanation? weird to me that one of these people who go on and on about the “denial of basic biology” could still believe at age 19 that pregnancy without a uterus is possible.
I (nonbinary) first learned about being transgender by the TV show catfish. In one episode, a woman finds out the person she was talking to was actually a trans man and not the woman he was pretending to be because he wasn't fully out yet and everyone was so cool with it even back in the early 2000s.
As a kid watching that it wasn't hard to conceptualize that people are happy outside of the gender they were assigned, and I now consider that a pillar of me being trans today.

When I was a kid, my brother who was 2 years younger than me told me about a man getting pregnant (because I’ve had an avid interest in obstetrics since I was 2) and I was super confused and intrigued, I asked if they were biologically female and my brother said yes and then my only response was “oh I thought you meant a male and I was confused, that’s really cool” I was about 11. If we’re really gonna talk about chest feeding, how can she explain how biological and even cis man lactic after witnessing cis women go thru that after child birth? Lactation isn’t ONLY present in women, it can be present in anyone even biological men.
I'm pretty sure you need a high amount of estrogen + other hormones in your system to lactate. Normally, men or just people with more testosterone than estrogen don't typically have the ability to lactate. I'm AMAB and I've never lactated once even when watching people give birth in movies and anime. Maybe than will change once I'm on estrogen but as of now that isn't the case even though the drugs I take (prescribed, anti psychotics for my autism and general insanity) puts me at risk for it. Trans men who give birth also risk birthing a child with a multitude of defects due to insufficient hormones needed for a healthy body, and almost always have to use formula which is far less healthy than breast milk from the birther and made in a lab. (breast milk is 100% geneticly compatible with the child for their maximum nutrition, while formula often isn't.) Feeding infants properly is EXTREMELY important for their later health and you need to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL with developing bodies and minds so that they grow up healthy.
Yea I remember seeing something awhile back about how some people are trying to find ways to encourage more lactation in cis men or trans women. It would be awesome if it became normal considering it would increase the supply of milk for babies

I remember that magazine cover! I was in middle school and effing stoked to see a man get pregnant. Then I read the article and was disappointed a uterus donation procedure hadn’t been developed yet. Felt like the article was a bait and switch to my hopeful teen mind (I always wanted to donate mine to someone who would use it) but it was a pretty cool story. Managing hormones while carrying to term is an understated challenge! He and his partner were pioneers.

Yep, though of course they don't know that; they think "biological" is a synonym for cis. The use of the terms "biological men" and "biological male" show a clear lack of understanding of human sex. Any notion of truly binary, immutable sex is completely refuted by the existence of intersex people; therefore, these sorts of people view intersex people as simply having defects that must be "fixed" at birth and refuse to think about the implications of these "defects" any deeper than that. This is one of the main reasons why the "biological male" and "biological female" shit is so bad; not only is it inaccurate, but it leads to the continued allowance of mutilation of intersex infants.

I would say they don’t know anything about biology, but in school, they don’t tell you about intersex people, so they really do just know basic biology and never learned anything past that.

Yes. Men, even those who have NEVER transitioned, do have breast tissue and, can lactate under the right circumstances. There is a condition called "gynecomastia" that certain medications can cause where men grow breasts and sometimes they can lactate in certain instances, too.
I remember an episode of American dad where Stan just lactated on the spot.
One of the interesting things I learned before about biological men that can happen
Before I realized I was non-binary/trans, I was taking risperdall. I think it was adhd medication. Well, I started developing breasts because of it. Mom stopped the medication immediately. Now, I kinda wish I kept taking that risperdall... it would've helped with the breast growth after I started hrt. Wait, should I start taking risperdall? Eh, idk if that's a great idea, but it did help with breast growth. Maybe if I combine that with hrt it'll boost the growth? I mean, I'm already on estradiol and progesterone already helps boost breast growth and was just taken off of my spironolactone/testosterone blockers.
Edit* I looked up Risperdal and the gynocomastia controversy as well as what risperdal was actually for. I am not bipolar or schizophrenic, so I was already prescribed the wrong medication for my adhd and autism. On second thought, I think I'll stick to progesterone. Risperdal can go f-u-c-k itself.
Gynecomastia is even something that happens to some boys when boy puberty hits....

The conflict in my mind of feeling "OMG what is this!! This is not supposed to happen!" along with "OMG, is this what it feels like getting breasts?"
And then, right after that, feeling shit-scared you'd be able to see it through clothing, and right after that thought feeling sad you didn't see any of it through clothing.
When it subsided (in my mind that took about 3 months, but it might have been shorter just because of the imprint it left in my mind due to how shook up I was about it) there was a new wave of confusion: Being glad it went away because of the earlier stresses about it possibly being visible through clothing, and feeling sad because it went away because it apparently meant my body was not on the road to womanhood just on it's own...

Teacher here!! I was a toddler teacher in childcare centers for about five years. I taught toddlers and preschoolers art classes for three. I was working in a two year old room when I medically transitioned. I was very open with the students, families, and staff. The families and staff were very supportive. Conversations in my room were simple. Something like: covering what they know: when babies are born, the doctor looks at their body and says it's a boy or girl. As people get older, some people like Teacher Eryc feel different in their heart and head. Some feel the opposite, some feel like both, some neither. Then as the kids age up, the conversation develops with them.
Never did any teacher say there's no such thing as boys and girls.
Will this conversation evolve some? Possibly, if we stop singing gender with sex. Do I think it will while to there are no boys/men, and no girls/women? Oh hell no, she's on some other ish.
They always teaching that though there are teachers and regular people too saying biology doesn't exist. They are already saying that maybe look into what people are saying. I don't give a shit if an adult is teans but kids shouldn't be exposed to it the way they are and laments shouldn't be transing their kids at age 3. Just look up the family with 2 trans kids the youngest one is trams because his sister is I would put money on it. The older one is 12 I think and on puberty blockers already saying they don't want kids amd they don't care what it does to their body. That absolutely should not be done to a kid at all they can't make that decision yet they aren't mature enough.

I'm a Dutch trans guy, and when I was about 10 I first saw trans people on tv. It was a reality show about a couple who were both trans. I remember being intrested, and also relating so much to their experiences (but that's just me being trans haha). Anyways, neither me or my sibling were confused or discusted, because it was explained properly.
I now recognise this show as the first time I realised I was trans. So naturally I did the most logical thing, I totally suppressed it for years. So no, even an actual trans kid wil not 'become' trans after seeing trans people on tv
You were sort of lucky in the sense that there actually was something on TV that sort of explained it: I was born in 1988 so the information on the subject was incredibly limited, and the small amounts of times media did make a portrayal bordering on transgenderism, it was mostly for laughs.
I was 19 when I found out what was up (I'm Dutch as well by the way, though going the other way :P :D ) and while I did let my hair grow out as a first step, I was pretty much clueless for quite some time on what to do (which is pretty odd, I was just about to finish school when 2 girls there from a completely different class and educational direction mistook me for a girl for the very first time ever, and it felt soooo good.
A more "funny" thing for me is experiencing people who think "girly toys" is what makes boys transgender: I can always immediately shut them down and ask them why my identical twin brother did not become trans then because we basically played with the same toys...

A more accurate term would be that "people with wombs can get pregnant." While "some men can get pregnant" is technically correct, it ignores the biological aspect all of this which upsets transphobes. My version is both respectful towards trans men and nonbinary people while also acknowledging physical biology. A best of both worlds.

I know, (transphobic rhetoric follows this, beware) The whole transphobic "YOU HAVE TO SAY WOMEN have periods" talking point seems really redundant. In a belief system that claims that only women have uteruses and periods, it necessarily means that you don't have to say that a woman is the one having the period. It would be like "a creation requires a creator" argument.
Also when they get angry about "people with" (biological trait like ovaries, periods), imply that women aren't people, they really expose their true colors.
I like to lampoon this terf talk with "AHHH only FEMALE VAGINAWOMEN can have FEMININE PERIODS from their WOMANLY WOMBS" to take it to the absurd conclusion.
It's pretty fucked up that she's latching onto menstruation being a defining factor of womanhood when her sister has struggled with infertility.
There are people who regret back surgery. It ends up making their issues worse. Should we take away the option to have back surgery just because SOME people regret it? It’s the same logic.
Just because some people regret the decisions they made for themselves does not mean we should take away the option that could help so many other people.
Actually a trans woman who was on HRT long enough (a few years) is in the exact same position to induce lactation as a cis woman who did not get pregnant. Like it is the same in ALL aspects and with the right medicine/protocol, it can works in most cases as far as I know
