From tragedy to triumph, YOB’s incredible 8th full-length recording was conceived amidst dire circumstances that nearly left frontman Mike Scheidt dead. Suffering from an extremely painful and potentially fatal intestinal disease, Scheidt miraculously recovered and reinvigorated the Oregon trio with a new sense of purpose for Our Raw Heart, an album informed by the will to survive. More exposed than ever both physically and emotionally, YOB bleed out seven riveting tracks of enormous volume and pensive, transcendental beauty across 75 minutes of ultimate doom. A brilliant musical progression in the YOB continuum, Our Raw Heart is the band at their most aggressive, impassioned and eclectic. The riffs are massive, the vocals captivating and the songwriting sublime. Existing in its own organic universe, Our Raw Heart is truly the band’s finest work to date and the apex achievement of what heavy music can accomplish. Our Raw Heart was co-produced by the band and longtime collaborator Billy Barnett at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene, Ore., with mastering handled by Heba Kadry (The Mars Volta, Diamanda Galas, Slowdive).
10 years ago I was comatose, then dead. I have been listening to strength and inspiration from Mike's words for 6 years now as I work to overcome a body left wracked and wrecked. Seldom do you find a song so meaningful to you to start tears of joy to be alive whenever you hear it. Ashes within clay Shaped upon an earthen wheel Pour into this vessel Drained and filled again Temple to a nameless soul Beckoning my restless ghost
Absolutely beautiful song, hits even deeper than Marrow from Clearing the Path to Ascend. Lyrics: Sent unto the shore Every grain of sand Rivers quicken remembrance Carried by a grace Running in our veins Ashes within clay Shaped upon an earthen wheel Pour into this vessel Drained and filled again Temple to a nameless soul Beckoning my restless ghost From holes in my gut To love from miracles Silver climbed the walls Eyeless looking on It’s looking still Drawn by a mortal thread To an ever shifting weave Known better by my bones Than my eyes can see Shrine to a silent call Beckoning my restless ghost Leaving Nothing left behind Breathing Through my dark inside The raw within Ayni Sent reverence For what has been given In this shared life The raw within
Like all great art, this stirs the soul...a few simple chord changes, passion and power and you've entered a world of hope, love, regret, nostalgia and a bit of 'fuck-you' all within the space of 15 minutes depending on your mood. Lots of subtlety within the repetition if you listen closely but basically it's just something that hits you on a primal and emotional level. The title says it all...Music for people with raw hearts who feel all the emotions that make being alive worth the rollercoaster ride.
I'm speechless. There's no-one else in music that captures power, warmth, dark and light as good as Yob do right now. The fucking closing riff on this!!
@Muzician Zero so i guess u heard the album leak already? i looked for it just now and its been removed but i found another place to listen to it.. i actually preordered a cd-shirt bundle(first time in a while) but i cant resist listening to it which i am right now :)
I love YOB since always , Marrow was for me heaven , i could not think they could create more beauty because this song is the perfection for me . Then i discover few days ago this song, i can t stop to listen it and i have it all the time on my mind, i am totally devasted by this song, i feel something so strong in my heart. Thank you, it was exactly what i needed to stand up again. Yob , you give us an incredible gift, thank you for so much generosity . lOVE YOU.
I love what you have said as it exactly how I feel about this. A very close friend of mine recently passed away at 39. I sat and thought about him and listened to this song as I felt it was fitting in its celebration of tragedy and victory! So powerful.
I really love the use of sacred geometry (such as Metatron's Cube and various Mandalas) in the video, and the song was just a stream of both soul-crushing heaviness and extremely spacey sound. Loved every part of it, I'm so ready for the album!
Wow. I can't wait to get my physical copy. This band has gotten better with each album imho. I might like this song more than Marrow. Not sure. I actually can't believe YOB has been around for so long and so many people still have yet to pick up on them. The Screen was a killer song as well. It kinda reminded me of the song ATMA. God bless you Mike for continuing to make epic heavy music!
I saw the pure beauty of this masterpiece on the first listen, but somehow just now at the I-don't-know-what spin it's power really gripped the weaves of my essence and left me in a carthated state of pure marvel. So many relatable feelings and raw power and beauty. YOB IS LOVE!
After all these years we're finally listening to something Cliff Burton would pen. Bar Marrow I can't help but think this is the greatest song since Orion.
This song is incredibly beautiful - BUT THE COMMERCIAL BREAK IN THE MIDDLE RUINS IT EVERY TIME!!! Couldn‘t you put the commercial at the end or the beginning of the video? Thanks in advance…🤞
Great song, i sense some JESU in there. I always loved the "singing Mike" more than the "screaming Mike" but hey: without uglyness there is no beauty :)
I can't help but compare 'The Screen' and this to 'Clearing the Path to Ascend.' Especially 'Marrow.' This song is still in the process of sinking in for me, but 'Marrow' has an ethereal quality to it. I can't wait for this to drop. Neurosis brought me to them.
I can't fathom a band like Tool being praised as the Be All End All of Genius in music with Worldwide fame and unending Accolades and this Total Badassery that is YOB is still barely known in comparison That is the definition of Injustice in my ever so humble opinion my friends
Tool is at best mediocre. They have some good songs, but nothing that stands out as technically or musically superior to even half the metal acts from the 70s-90s.
It's funny you say that, given Tool took Yob out on tour with them. I assume because someone in Tool likes what these guys do. Tool has some mastercraft work out there definitely, they do so much with such simple, crushing riffs.
I love the vocals and the melody that's sung. This song sounds a lot different than the music on the one Yob album I own, at least from the vocal standpoint. I'll be buying the album because of this song. I've been listening to doom so long that it wasn't called doom when I started (i.e., with the song Black Sabbath off the Sabs 1st album).
The fact that people are judging this song pisses me off. Mike could have died and there would have been no more Yob. And you wanna sit at home and complain about how this song isn’t doom enough or it’s like Marrow. Piss off. Enjoy this music because we still have Yob and Mike.
Up Your Arsenal I hear it too. Totally different sounding bands but I still hear it, especially the last riff through the end of the song. Sounds like a heavier songs of farewell and departure
Now we don’t have to pretend that this was the closest to new Hum

I`d love a bit of Devin Townsend harmony on this because I think both vocals have a distant relation and that`s my opinion which as most of us know is no longer allowed these days.

Thank you all🎉

Ashes within clay
Shaped upon an earthen wheel
Pour into this vessel
Drained and filled again
Temple to a nameless soul
Beckoning my restless ghost
Most beautiful song I've ever heard
Absolutely beautiful song, hits even deeper than Marrow from Clearing the Path to Ascend.
Lyrics:
Sent unto the shore
Every grain of sand
Rivers quicken remembrance
Carried by a grace
Running in our veins
Ashes within clay
Shaped upon an earthen wheel
Pour into this vessel
Drained and filled again
Temple to a nameless soul
Beckoning my restless ghost
From holes in my gut
To love from miracles
Silver climbed the walls
Eyeless looking on
It’s looking still
Drawn by a mortal thread
To an ever shifting weave
Known better by my bones
Than my eyes can see
Shrine to a silent call
Beckoning my restless ghost
Leaving
Nothing left behind
Breathing
Through my dark inside
The raw within
Ayni
Sent reverence
For what has been given
In this shared life
The raw within
The only track to match Orion.. I often find it hard to listen to it. God bless you Mike.
I seen YOB and AMENRA, and VOIVOD,,that night was special because it was the last concert i went too before Covid 19
Is there any band that got higher than this? We bend the knee before YOB, one of the greatest bands in metal history.
This song brings me to tears. I love it so much.
I like how this song starts off sad then as it progresses becomes more happier sounding.
This song is out of this world. The album is a masterpiece. Just let it flow and you'll reconnect with the deepest and raw part of yourself.
This song pulls on so many heart strings. I am so grateful Mike survived to bless us with this song.
How are they ever gonna kick this albums ass it's gonna be tough to top some of these songs
I can't think of anyone else putting more heart into their music then the fellows at camp YOB.
Barry Fitz.....devin townsend
Buckethead.
@@postrockforthemind128 absolutely.he's from an another world
Agreed. But it always feels like music Cliff would have written, had he still been alive!!
Narrow head

I hope I will listen to this a few hundred times before I die. It is beautiful. It is raw - well named.
Have you reached the teens yet...this is my first...however Windhand is another story...
I THINK IM IN LOVE
Tiffanie Yob is love
First time in my life that a song took my breath away. Absolutely out of this world. YOB is love
this song is pure energy
Thanks Mike and Travis and Aaron. Thanks.
Okay YOB gonna make me shed a tear right now 😟
This song relieved a lot of my worries. Much more grandiose and powerful than the screen was in my opinion
I like the screen tho. Clearing the Path had the same kind of variety. I cannot wait until the full record is out
kabukiman69 I guess I could’ve worded that better. I didn’t dislike the screen at all. It was just a bit bare for me. This song is enormous
Just wait till you hear "Beauty in Falling Leaves"...
@Muzician Zero so i guess u heard the album leak already? i looked for it just now and its been removed but i found another place to listen to it.. i actually preordered a cd-shirt bundle(first time in a while) but i cant resist listening to it which i am right now :)
@bunglebee Actually it leaked a week ago, been on heavy rotation since then :) It's so good, I guess I need a vinyl copy
I love YOB since always , Marrow was for me heaven , i could not think they could create more beauty because this song is the perfection for me . Then i discover few days ago this song, i can t stop to listen it and i have it all the time on my mind, i am totally devasted by this song, i feel something so strong in my heart. Album of the year, kids.
Without any doubts 💜
Have you listen to elder's new album?
Easily.
Yob is Love!
indeed
All you need is Yob
I don't know of any other band that makes a 14 minute song seem short.
Swans!
Because you want them to continue until...
Tool
disagree!!
opeth
Lotta talent in this band.
Beautiful melodic Power!
I really love the use of sacred geometry (such as Metatron's Cube and various Mandalas) in the video, and the song was just a stream of both soul-crushing heaviness and extremely spacey sound. Loved every part of it, I'm so ready for the album!
I remember seeing Yob at The Garage when they last toured the UK and they closed with this monster. Am such a brilliant track.
Majestic and humble at the same time, talk about balance!
This is like the ever and ever repeated end credit song of everything
One of the best sounds ever! Yob all over the world! LOVE!
Greatness. The lyrics of one song can tell about the whole life.
Beautiful song
Best band in the World. Love, emotion, energy and what a wonderful voice!!!
The heart is a bloody fist raised high. Glad you're back, Mike.
I just cried listening to this...
I saw the pure beauty of this masterpiece on the first listen, but somehow just now at the I-don't-know-what spin it's power really gripped the weaves of my essence and left me in a carthated state of pure marvel. So many relatable feelings and raw power and beauty. YOB IS LOVE!
This is absolutely beautiful.
Beautiful. Welcome back YOB. Cheers to Mike, glad you made it ok. Looking forward to the Ottawa show.
Absolutely incredible!
I wonder why we have to compare everything. YOB is great, TOOL are masterful, and Jesu is it's own thing entirely. This sounds like an epic YOB song.
After all these years we're finally listening to something Cliff Burton would pen. Bar Marrow I can't help but think this is the greatest song since Orion.
Finally I understand...
TY from my heart to yours
L&R
This song is incredibly beautiful - BUT THE COMMERCIAL BREAK IN THE MIDDLE RUINS IT EVERY TIME!!! Couldn‘t you put the commercial at the end or the beginning of the video? Thanks in advance…🤞
Love it
Reminds me of neurosis, thanks for the rec UA-cam!
Epic, simply EPIC! This brings a storm of emotions in my chest...
THANK YOU, YOB!
YOB IS LOVE!
Great song, i sense some JESU in there. I always loved the "singing Mike" more than the "screaming Mike" but hey: without uglyness there is no beauty :)
JESU! :)
Definitely some Jesu in there.....
Drawn by a mortal thread
To an ever shifting weave
Known better by my bones
Than my eyes can see..
SO AMAZING. THANKS YOB. LOVE THIS BAND.
Beautiful
This song lifts your consciousness.
The outro……..
Yob is love
I love this song
Beautiful!
This is fantastic! Love it and I'm absolutely stoked for the album!
The Rush of doom!! 🎶🤘🎶
Wow... idk what to say... i just going to hear, relax and enjoy this masterpiece.
Hypnotic as always
I can't help but compare 'The Screen' and this to 'Clearing the Path to Ascend.' Especially 'Marrow.' This song is still in the process of sinking in for me, but 'Marrow' has an ethereal quality to it. I can't wait for this to drop. Neurosis brought me to them.
Dreams the universe I wish I could play guitar like Mike scheidt
Just stumbled over this. His voice reminds me sometimes of Chris Cornell. Great tune.
Holy smack... What an awarding feeling for my senses. Great as fucking ever YOB
Gorgeous.
I can't fathom a band like Tool being praised as the Be All End All of Genius in music with Worldwide fame and unending Accolades and this Total Badassery that is YOB is still barely known in comparison That is the definition of Injustice in my ever so humble opinion my friends
yes sir!
they're both amazing, for different reasons
Tool is at best mediocre. They have some good songs, but nothing that stands out as technically or musically superior to even half the metal acts from the 70s-90s.
It's funny you say that, given Tool took Yob out on tour with them. I assume because someone in Tool likes what these guys do. Tool has some mastercraft work out there definitely, they do so much with such simple, crushing riffs.
I like some Tool mostly Undertow but to me they can't touch the Greatness of YOB Midian or Pallbearer but that's just me i reckon
Highlight of yesterday gig in London with Godflesh and Neurosis.
Cancel life if you don't get the beauty of this. Thank you Yob for the album of the year.
i keep listening to this. cant wait for the album
Sublime!
Another jewel.
I didn't want this to end.
Brilliant
GREAT !!!!!
Wow! Fenomenal song!
I love it
Life before finding Yob < Life after finding Yob
Songs so long they have commercials. Loving this though T_T
😃suuuuuupeeeeeerrrr ,espectaculaaaaarrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!Es genial
The fact that people are judging this song pisses me off. Mike could have died and there would have been no more Yob. And you wanna sit at home and complain about how this song isn’t doom enough or it’s like Marrow. Piss off. Enjoy this music because we still have Yob and Mike.
uh, I'm not seeing comments here to that effect. Seems people are digging it here...
Chad Wells preemptive strike!
Marrow rules!!
Does anyone feel a Hum infuence on this albúm? I feel it so much, and it makes this album mean much more to me
Up Your Arsenal I hear it too. Totally different sounding bands but I still hear it, especially the last riff through the end of the song. Sounds like a heavier songs of farewell and departure
Oh thank jesus, I though I was crazy or something! It has that mellow, slow heavy riffing like Hum had. I love Yob, but man, I miss Hum so much
Up Your Arsenal same here. Still beating myself over missing one of their reunion shows. Failure was there as well
Absolutely I hear it. Has more of a Downward is Heavenward sound to it a la Afternoon with Axolotls
Now we don’t have to pretend that this was the closest to new Hum
I`d love a bit of Devin Townsend harmony on this because I think both vocals have a distant relation and that`s my opinion which as most of us know is no longer allowed these days.
The will to survive, right here.
The Word of Yob
Now this is superb! I have to admit I was a tad underwhelmed by The Screen but Our Raw Heart is just sublime
This is AMAZING !!!
Sped up to 1.25x and 1.5x this sounds more like HUM and I can't help but think this album influenced HUM's latest album "Inlet"
Monumental.
amazing
I order it. Right Now!
Damn.
I love YOB.
❤
Just learned yob is from my home town eugene oregon
Brutal
this is tooo good
Whistling the last 7 minutes of this song proves the Tibetan Monks have missed a trick.
this has like a pallbearer vibe in it i love both bands though
jose jorge granados Yob came first. Pallbearer can thank Yob.
They both put out great records in 2014
2014 was probably the greatest year for modern doom metal ever.
🖤🖤🖤🖤
I love the fucking outro to this wonderful song!!
Yes! It's epic
It beats Marrow. And it now beats Orion.
