In BATB 12, Aurelien over Joslin (12.55%) and Koston over Mike Mo (18.11%) were bigger upsets (likelihood of winning) than Dashawn's victory against Cody (30.96%)
ELO will never have any legitimate use with these tiny sample sizes and the revolving door of new competitors that might play only one match and vary in skill drastically. The fact all first time entrants are created equal makes ELO even more useless as a stat. Apart from a much much larger sample size of matches, having first time competitors pre-qualify to a certain standard or do a test that adjusts their entry level score would make this system worth more. Unless we had these skaters playing in dozens of SKATE tournaments per year, ELO is nothing but a gimmick.
A good example of how statistics are meaningless without context is Mikemo vs Koston. His stats are presumably almost all pre-injury. The guy literally has a paralyzed foot. So expecting Koston to only have an 18% chance of beating a guy who can't lift his foot up without a specialized boot is insane.
@@dob7138911 High-Elo Mike Mo (1231) made it to round 3 in season 11, almost beating Tom Asta (1139) post injury, whereas low elo Koston (992) got relatively spanked by even lower elo Malto (949) in season 11. It's true Elo doesn't take into account context like whether or not someone decides to stop skating enough to be competitive, but Koston's poor performance in season 11 and Mike Mo's good performance in season 11 make a strong case for Eric having little chance of winning in season 12.
