Nice reaction. My favorite part of this is Avi's smile at Tim's last note.
I believe this collaboration with Avi was to promote Home Free after winning the sing off. PTX was better known, so Avi wanted to help out his friends anyway he could. Fun reaction, cheers!
I've read (and found it to be true) and Avi Kaplan was underused in PTX - you can see the light come back in his eyes while singing with Home Free. The arrangement of the song, the singing, harmonies, beatboxing and - wow- the bass is terrific. Avi was still in town and does cameos in their video "Champagne Taste". Thanks for playing this & your insights.
Tim and Avi sound so damn good singing together. I wish they could do something else together. They are both so busy I don't really see how it could happen but a gal can dream right?
Nice reaction Cole.
It is pretty epic. Chris Rupp did a video about the making of this that is fun (the fire kind of got away from them when they first lit it for starters 🙂). Pentatonix was really at the height of their popularity 2 years after the SingOff so Avi was put on the song to drive sales of Homefree's first L.P. after Homefree won their season.
Champagne Taste On a Beer Budget, an original by Tim Foust, was filmed on that same weekend.
This song is done in a country reggae beat. It showcases the higher & lower ranges of both Tim Foust & Avi Kaplan. That last note of Tim is impressive with how low he goes, but more impressive is how long he sustains the note. On the "Sing Off Show" that Home Free won in 2013 Tim goes even lower on this song "Ring Of Fire" & he impressed the judges so much that they gave them a standing ovation. And Adam Rupp once again was stellar in his vocal percussion.
Not a collab because Avi does nothing more than walk across the set in front of the guys, give a "hi there" look to the camera, and keep going, only to go to the far back, behind everyone else, and sit up on the mechanical bull. Home Free started filming on the Tim Foust original song Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget almost immediately after Ring of Fire, and since he was still hanging out with his buddies, Avi thought he'd make a cameo. I love the look on some of the reactors' faces when they realize who that guy in the cowboy hat is.
I originally never heard of HomeFree, but found this video because of Avi. I was very impressed with the group, the low bass, the high tenor, and the incredible beat boxing. So, I listened to more of Home Free afterwards. Being an Avi Kaplan fan, it cracks me up every time when Avi puts that cowboy hat on at the end. I love it!
Great reaction. Thank you!
There's only one other "collab" (not really) with Avi. It's in the "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget). Avi walks through the "tavern" where the guys are singing, near the end. It's fun. 😀
Hey Cole, I am sorry to hear you were under the weather again. Seems summer may not have been kind to your health. Really glad to see you and hope that you stay well. As for the song, never get tired of hearing it or Tim's jaw dropping last note. Everyday is a good day for Home Free!! EOVC
I love this cover with Avi, I love Home Free and really mostly listen to them, but Avi is definitely great! I really found HF much later than the sing-off, but have watched all of their performances, including the judge’s comments the season they won and continue to do so occasionally! Always enjoy watching your reactions! ❤❤
These guys love collaborations as you have seen.
Ring of Fire in a more modern, somewhat reggea-like version, but still respecting the original. More than 4½ years ago this was the first video I saw/heard from Home Free. I got there because I was listening to Pentatonix at the time and Avi was my favorite. Immediately there was something that drew me to Home Free. From then on I followed them and after I think 2 videos I was a real Home Fry. I hardly follow PTX anymore. Avi still does, because Avi Kaplan and Home Free let me feel music and not just hear it. Their great harmonies, the unbelievably good beatboxing/vocal percussion and of course that incredible deep bass that makes the ground vibrate and your speakers explode.
Personally, I thought Avi fit better with Home Free than with PTX. But that's my opinion 😊
I love the moment at the end when Avi puts in the cowboy hat. His smile is so sweet.
Avi seemed very comfortable singing with Home Free.
I loved seeing him smile.
You are right about the popularity of this video is because of Avi’s collaboration, but the cover is still wonderful.
I will politely disagree with you on that. I like Avi but I had never heard of him before this video.
@@carolburnett190 Avi met those guys during their Sing-Off competition season and they all became friends, before Home Free were known and PTX was on their rise a year earlier. I think Ring of Fire was one of their earlier video releases.
Though they are two VERY LOW basses, they have two very different sounds.. Avi Kaplan has the perfect voice for this song because his voice is very warm like a fire toasting marshmallows. Tim Foust has the most INCREDIBLE RANGE! I have heard Tim sing as low as a G'1 which is the last DEEP note Tim sings at the end of the song. Tim can sing as HIGH as an A1 in the tenor range! Amazing! What I love about these Acapela groups like Homefree, Voice Play, and former Pentatonix and now solo artist Avi Kaplan is that there is NO COMPETITION between the groups. They frequently collaborate each other not only making cameos in each other's videos but they also help each other behind the scenes with music arrangements, lyrics, and video production as well.
Love this song, you cant go wrong with Avi! Thank you for the video and commentary
Excellent, Cole! Thank you.
At this time Avi was going out on his own. Home Free is generous with featured singers. Here they were introducing Avi to their audience
🎉
Avi put in a surprise cameo while HF was filing Champagne Taste. When you watch Champagne, watch Tim’s face when Avi walks past the camera. 😂
I enjoyed your reaction, thank you! It’s a wonder that these two basses didn’t make the globe implode😉 As an Avi-cionado I have a thing for Avi’s smooth, soulful voice that’s like golden syrup, and I hope you will find the time to react to more of his own outstanding music.
This was so very awesome! Two basses is incredible! Love your reaction!
Great reaction, as usual! I was glad to see that you finally changed your setup so that you appear to be looking AT the artist's video rather than off-screen, away from it. I hope you'll keep that configuration. It makes a big difference to the viewer.
Avi obviously enjoyed his time with Home Free, and while this arrangement is all about the bass, Austin's beautiful voice needs a shout-out. His perfectly sustained notes in that intro are just that -- perfect! It's difficult to compare the 2 versions, but in the end I got a bigger thrill from the Sing Off performance. Maybe because I was hearing it new in 2013, on TV, the studio version was more of a production remake for me. But, WOW, double bass is something else again! Hope you are back on your feet by now -- your other videos are missed!
Such a good rendition. Avi has a beautiful voice although I love Tim’s ending. Goodness, he can hold that low note. Good one Cole!😄
Appreciate your reactions. I think you’re right on about the number of views on this video. This is very well done but honestly prefer the Sing Off version. Perhaps it’s because it was the first time we heard that low low bass! It was a treat then and a treat now. Much ❤️ for your channel.
Thanks for your comments.
Re-Visits??? Not often enough, esp after "learning" ( = more appreciation) --- NOT AGAINST AT ALL!!!! The LIVE on the SingOff is my fav - the 1st time they performed it, nerves and unsure of how response would be! It's RAW!!! To me, there was a change in the beatboxing and the obvious, Tim's low was lower and so EPIC!!! Be Safe
They sing this on their live show with Chance singing the verse Avi did. Great reaction.
They still use basically this same arrangement in their live shows. They do showcase Chance's bass in part, now.
Watch "champagne taste on a beer budget".
I perfer the Sing-Off version. Tim's sub-basement note during the Sing-Off version was an F#1 while he dropped a G1 in this version. I think I just enjoyed the reactions of the HF guys, the judges, and the audience. EVOC
I love the Sing off version better
Avi is a great singer, but I prefer the version from The Sing-Off.
