One of the best helicopters ever made. I love the 725, it's performance is amazing and the amount of roles it can fulfill are equally as impressive. True definition of what a utility helicopter should be.
They need to align the helicopter with the target. You can't direct gunpods by elevating or spinning them in the desired direction. But a nose-mounted machinegun/chaingun can move and turn without having to lign up the helicopter.
Oops--Let me clarify, lol! In fact, I would actually RATHER see more of what other countries have because I seen what America has so many times already. It's really cool to see what other people come up with and to learn how those machines fit the unique mission sets and environments they were designed for. Sorry, I accidentally left a couple of words out of my last post that I meant to put in it, LOL!
Why not add gunpods and rockets to a lighter helicopter, such as the EC120 Colibri? Is it for defense in extraction situations, or as a support/attack helicopter?
thank you for saying that nicely -- I was fighting an urge to say similar comment with less tact. -- I am always amazed that you get these folks trying to claim the moral high ground by impeding tools that are used to protect their right to act against any sort of societal survival instinct. Its as if they have all been insulated for so long they need to be in touch with how truly rough the world is so they get context. anyway Cheers.
The tech is nice and all, but anybody else notice the close proximity to the large concentration of residences? I'd be pissed if I had a helicopter testing its weaponry that close to my house.
I didn't notice any large population centers, just rural stuff. I don't think you could find any where in europe with less population in it than that. It is either over water or weapons ranges cramped in between villages. It isn't like we got wast area of previous unclaimed land as deserts to play around in over here. If we do find large areas without people it will more likely be made into protected wildlife reservation rather than a weapons range.
Yes, I am just stating that if there a military arm has a dedicated attack helicopter, this conversion is pointless. But, this would be efficient for smaller military budgets that cannot afford a dedicated attack helicopter but still need support capabilities. =P
***** Any Hind, even the oldest variant has very decent crew protection (basically anything smaller then a heavy machinegun will just piss it off), this has...nothing... even small fire arms can injure/kill the pilots, which is very bad if they are expected to fly the damn thing...also, the crew in the Hind is separated, so even if the cabin receives a penetrating hit, there will still be someone capable of flying it to safety... Most Mi-24s have the machinegun in a turret, so you don't need to turn the entire craft to aim it (that kinda' helps if you want to return fire instead of being shot at)... Mi-24s don't need fucking gun pods which are famed for all but accuracy and reliability... An Mi-24 actually has a passenger compartment that can fit 8 combat-ready troops, also with the capability of being equipped with armor for protection, this offers the protective capabilities of a tin bucket... An Mi-24 is built from the beginning to take some serious damage and still stay in the air, this is a transport helicopter, it's not designed to take hits... An Mi-24 can carry a wide range of weaponry, even bombs and anti-aircraft missiles, the most destructive thing the EC can mount are a few 68mm rockets...
This is interesting, and I am sure it works great. BUT. Using such expensive helicopter as a platform for unguided rockets and a gunpod, which are point and shoot weapons, is a fiscal overkill. A force is better off getting second or third hand UH-1's, MI-8's, on used helicopter market and sticking those weapons on them. EC725 is best used for force insertion, air assault, or high priority helicopter missions. This is akin to delivering pizza in a Bentley.
***** door gunners with a mini gun or .50 HBMG, is more effective and quicker reacting then forward firing pods. Turrets just add weight and complexity to a non-dedicated attack platform. Cost in weight and fuel is not worth it. For a force insertion platform, it is better to be lighter and carry more fuel, for route flexibility , safety, and to maintain mission security, then carying direct attack weapons. Just my opinion. When I was on active duty, I prefered to plan missions with maneuvers, rather then engagement. Sadly that did cost me respect from my peers, and points from my commanders, who prefered more aggressively minded officers.
you sir are correct, but alas welcome to the public sector where things are overpriced and employees are underworked thus companies are not self-sustaining. bold statement, i know.
I struggle to comprehend why do they put wheels on helicopters....wheels just add weights. ellipsoidal springs could the job if they're meants to absorb shocks with lateral displacements
They're used on larger, more powerful helicopters to make ground transportation easier. This comes in handy when they need to be wheeled into hangers for maintenance, for example.
I agree you are taking a big risk sending in such a heavy machine for such a little combat load. Only use would be to protect troops you are dropping off or picking up. then it might be worth it.
The Super Cougar is not a bad helo, but it lacks some firepower to be considered as a valuable multimission combat helicopter... Choppers as the S-70 Battlehawk from Sikorsky are so far better, because they are not just a transport and VIP helicopter, but also can be configured to heavy attack helicopter missions, armed with laser guided ATGM, GAU gatlings, 20 or 30mm cannon, napalm bombs, and more!
so it can carry a full payload of troops along with the machine gun/rocket pods or what? Kind of useless if it's troop-carrying(cargo) capacity is reduced, since it was the general role it was built for...
Quite an incredible machine. Regardless of the country or countries that make them, I am a HUGE fan of ALL things aviation. I can appreciate another country's contributions to aviation with their machines just as much as my own country's. In fact, I would actually see what OTHER countries have because I've seen so much of my own! At any rate, an AWESOME and BEAUTIFUL machine. One question, though. What caliber is that gun that's firing? No offense, it sounded like popcorn! Great, though.
It's HIND, with variants HIND through HIND-F. MI-24, MI-25 and the MI-35 variants. Although the HIND is an older platform than what you see here. They look alike because they were both built with cargo/troop transport in mind, and feature twin turbines close together at the top. I'm not an expert on either, but would rather have a true attack chopper, rather than throwing missiles on a troop transport. Either way, cool video.
The French finally succeeded in creating a 5 times more expensive Mi-8. All that some 40 years later and suffering from slight symptoms of anemia with just 2 weapon hard points instead of 6. Great Success :-)))
Its really gonna suck when this bird gets misidentified by LAAD as an Mi-17 or Mi-8... Here's hoping you have some super-sonic, secret, silent ninja IFF...
When I was in LAAD Bn (and FAAD Btry before that), we learned how to tell a Puma from an Mi-8. (Primarily the nacelles and cockpit.) Fast forward 25 years and here we are. On the other hand, remembering how dumb some of the gunners I trained with were, they will probably need the super-sonic, secret, silent ninja IFF and some crazy flare launchers and IR disrupters, too.
Hey David, i'm nt a hippie :) please stay objectively :D . i just think its wrong to build helicopters for the military. but without mentioning all morally things, everything is based on money :( i love helicopters, espacielly eurocopters' and i dont say this cougar is a bad heicopter, i only say that i dont like military helicopters with gunsand so on.
Yeah, but that means no war, no war means no weapons... And we all know the American love to spend money on weapons... PS: Don't take this comment serious...
Not a great sell as an attack helicopter. Search/rescue is fine but I would prefer H-60 series modified attack specs if I wanted a multi-role acft or a Boeing AH-64 if I was going all out attack. EC725 is a "jack of most trades" but not like this.
Airbus Helicopters Then I would suggest a new selling point as this video is implying otherwise. Most of it shows nothing but rocket and 20mm strafing runs with a few "acrobatic" maneuvers but nothing on CSAR. Failed marketing video.
Beautiful machine from the first batch delivered to Mexico.
One of the best helicopters ever made. I love the 725, it's performance is amazing and the amount of roles it can fulfill are equally as impressive.
True definition of what a utility helicopter should be.
For gun lovers: the pods are FN Herstal 0,50 cal with an 1100 rpm rate of fire
*Airwhale - the new action tv series coming to your station soon.*
So much improvement since I last work on this aircraft family type (Technician of Cougar aircraft AS332M1, 1991-1997)

eurocopter has excellent stability, and very reliable, but so does the NH-90 and I find it much better in combat.
this helicopter looks pretty awesome
but are you able to aim with these gun pods or do you have to move the whole helicopter?
They need to align the helicopter with the target. You can't direct gunpods by elevating or spinning them in the desired direction. But a nose-mounted machinegun/chaingun can move and turn without having to lign up the helicopter.
To start remodeling its air fleet, the Mexican air force needs these helicopter gunships, literally.
garry it clearly states in the description that it is a medium lift helicopter, not an attack helicopter.
its just a super puma ?
Upgraded Super Puma with 5 rotors and slightly longer fuselage
SuperCougar
And what's better, it can be rapidly reconfigured to meet other missions as CSAR, VIP transport, MEDEVAC and so on
Mexican Airforce just love it :D
Bien !
Op bro thanks for sharing 🤗

Is this the BMW R1200 GS of helicopters? This thing is huge!
Why not add gunpods and rockets to a lighter helicopter, such as the EC120 Colibri? Is it for defense in extraction situations, or as a support/attack helicopter?
Y'all teaming up with the army?
Formidable weapon. Assuming the opponent has no weapons whatsoever.

Mexican Air Force helicopter??
yep the third of 10, in testing before delivery.
Is this a wannabe Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low?
More like Mi-24 Hind wanna-be, except worse in all aspects :D

Mexican Air Force Ec-725 Very Nice ;)
The cugars in Mexico are equipped with m134 minigun
Nice copter but the weapons only for video games please.
or selfdefence if attacked while picking up allies in need.
mariano castro For selfdefence maybe we should invest more in shields.....that requires.......further development in electronics.......i guess.....
Actually it's not the Cougar, it's a Caracal
and those helicopters you've seen can they transport 28 people?
Indeed !
Impressive
What are them doing?
1003 FAM before delivering :)

yeah. Rules of Engagement for Beginners: never outsmart your Commander :)
VFX3D this boy currently carry two M134´s mounted on doors.

They're for ground taxi and running takeoffs.

Just came here to confirm if Gunship battle Puma's weapon system is accurate where it can carry Sidewinder missle, mavericks etc.
The caracals can carry an exocet anti ship missile if it wants
How much each one?
In fact theres a Eurocopter factory in México, and this one is now from the Mexican Air Force (FAM) ando others like this.

One WORD ...................Beautiful
so can it survive an RPG? alot of ch-47 were brought down in afghanistan.
Beat of machine
Puma and super Puma, Ecureuil, Gazelle, Alouette was imagined and made far before 2000, by French Aerospatiale.
No FLIR?

doesn't look menacing enough!
This is not a fighting helicopter
+reagan jury It's a special configuration for commando (special force) who need to fly and be deploy behind ennemi front without air support
Are they really trying to make this thing an attack helicopters"
the backup is coming
Looks like and updated version of the old Hine-D. The Hine is still a better platform than this from what I see here.

lol, its like a bit of everything rolled into one unit.....
An EC725 is a CH-47 on steroids.
Use MI-17 or Mi-8, better load capacity and firepower
why it looks so expensive??
Kostja08a is just the looks.......its a old and heavy helicopter......their just testing...............
Chyba chujowo wypadło, bo ani jednego ujęcia jak trafiają w cel. :)

I don't understand why you would make an attack helicopter or of this. It moves like a brick.
I meant "out of this"
This is made for the spécial force squad who must be able to operate on battleground without air support...

It's MILITARY helicopters...MILITARY!
the future flying tank
Not Eurocopter, but French Aerospatiale Super Puma.
COUGAR DE LA FUERZA AEREA MEXICANA :)
its just an inflated old super puma come on pft
Más bien el que sale es el de la FAM
All that helicopter just for one machine gun and a few rockets!
I've seen smaller, lighter helicopters better armed.
Looks like a flying washing machine
I don't think so... Sikorsky and the russians like Mil OKB and Kamov OKB are the best helicopter builders and designers worldwide
wie heisst das Lied das bei 0:42 Anfängt

Combat Search and Rescue
Awesome! They finaly did something russian choppers do for decades :-P
Better then the Hind in rang speed and performance.
Not a bad platform but farther limited
Albanian helicopters EC725
Yeah, but that means no war, no war means no weapons...
And we all know the American love to spend money on weapons...
PS: Don't take this comment serious...
Compro 20.000 unidades para a marinha do Brasil e a tecnologia para a helibras.
ok! it's me or the ec725 is just the french's PUMA with 2 rocket launcher!!!!!!!
