They look really great for your first time, Will. I bought some firemen and drivers. I think these are really great and detailed, and there is such a good variety of Australian based steam and diesel crews.

Great result mate 👍 I’d b happy with them.
If you don’t already have one an ‘Optivisor’ (that may be a generic name) magnifying glasses thingy is really useful for figures, regardless how young your eyes are ! Especially for facial and clothing details.
Also that ‘crate’ you mentioned is a traditional steam drivers (fireman’s) tucker box or crib box. Basically their work bags. Made of metal they were the only thing strong enough to survive in a shift in a steam loco. Often swung up on the side of the tender out of harms way.

Thanks Gary! I reckon I’ll have to invest in one! Thank you for the suggestion and the history of the box!

Hi will. Good to see you starting you starting to have a go at painting miniatures. As well as my model trains I’m also a warhammer 40k player, and have been painting miniatures for that for around 2 years now. I was certainly scared at first. I wanted to do the miniature’s justice. But like my friends said, the only way to get confident is to keep painting. Your first few minatures will look not the best, but as you progress your skills will improve. Even after only 2 years I can see huge improvements in what I can do. Also always keep your first few painted miniatures around. You can always look back on them and see how far you have come. Good luck and I hope to see you painting more miniatures into the future.

Hi Will, I’m Tim from the West Coast of the US. Oregon to be exact. I’ve been subscribed for a while now and really enjoy your videos. About the painting, it personally think you’ve done an excellent job. I’d love to see a live stream while chatting and painting. You do a great job and admire your work. Keep it up and I’m always looking forward to the next video. Later buddy.
    Tim

Hi Will. I did hundreds of Games Workshop figures back in the 90's for my boys. We worked together :). You did a good job mate. Simply put, I used to steady the hand holding the figure with one of my fingers on the painting hand and had good eyesite. Now, forget it hehe.

Will, I think you did a great job for a first time.
Adding figures to my Locos and cars, trucks, and into the general scenery is something on my list.
I did get a 3D printed figure from Australianh Modeller, Andian, but cutting off the supports, I boched it, so I need practice there.
Please keep the tips and tricks, and cool stuff coming.
    Cheers, and stay safe Michael

Will, you are right, there are plenty of "how to's" out there, but it is nice to see someone else taking the plunge and giving something new a go, and coming up with reasonable results. I've yet to get into doing most of this kind of stuff, and the thought of cracking out an airbrush is at best, daunting. It's nice too see someone else in this space doing a reasonable job!

Thanks mate! Yeah I’m now pretty keen to get some more mini figures, I’ve seen was possible to do with them and I’d love to be able to keep getting better at painting!

I do some minitures for my HO/OO set and can give you some advise. But first I watch SquidmarMiniatures to see how they do things and have been a great resource. Looking at you modles the black of the resin showed through so would suggest a bit more primer next time will help. The block colouring that you did was great but see if you can pick up some more colours that are simular to the main colour so you can do shadowed areas and highlights i.e Blue - main, Lighter blue - highlight, darker blue - shadowed areas. This next step will help you get experence shadding and working hopefully with a wet pallet.
One other peice of advise where possible start with light colours and move to the darker ones as lighter colours are easier to cover than darker ones.
    Oh and finally, Have fun.

I think its a great video Will. Perhaps a little variety in the colours? Anyway if you come up to the Epping model railway show you might meed some of the scanned originals.

G'day mate, good on you for taking the plunge. My hobby wall is soldering. Just seems too easy to mess up and electric is scary.
Have you tried Citadel Contrast paints or Army Painter Speed Paints? They make painting well sculpted minis a breeze. Still takes a steady hand and attention to detail, but the learning curve isn't as steep and the end results can be amazing. Especially for the time spent.

Yeah I totally understand that! I’m still very much at the beginning of soldering as well. I see people wiring locos and just throw that straight in the to hard basket!
Yeah I’m keen to look into the speed paints, they look pretty handy!

I have just started to paint my first loco drivers yesterday, so yes I would like to see a live stream of painting HO/00 scale figures. Holding them securely seems to be a battle I haven’t mastered yet
