Poor Reid ends up getting a whole lot more than some of the others. At least once per season Reid gets captured and tortured.

Hey Kofi hope you’re having a great day today! I just wanted to stop in and say, you should definitely watch the 4 episodes where , “THE REAPER.” appears he has to be one of the scariest villains yet, dude is completely ruthless and some of the BAU is actually in risk. I think you’d really enjoy those episodes for sure teaches you more about the leader Aaron Hotchner. Also I absolutely LOVE your reactions, keep up the amazing work!!

Loved your reaction to this episode! One of my favorite episodes, aside from perhaps Mosley Lane.
Your confusion about the test run of the mass poison is completely understandable, as someone who would never join a cult. But it's a common tactic in charismatic personality lead religious cults to break down followers to be reshaped into the idea that their leader will grant them protection or, if they die, ensure they will reach the promised afterlife. The most famous example of this, you already mentioned- Jonestown.
They too held test runs, which where treated as loyalty tests. Jim Jones would hold so-called White Nights to indoctrinate his followers into the idea that the government would come after them with violence. They would wake up the compound with floodlights and sirens and Jim Jones would hold all night preaching and have long rants. He would call up members and tell them to profess their faith in him or accuse others of lacking belief, often verbally abusing them to make his followers fearful and broken down mentally. He and his inner circle would then give them choices and see who would stay and fight, who would flee and who would die for him. They would be given cups of red liquid and be told they ingested poison. However those cups were harmless and in fact helped prime the idea of taking part.
Of course when the actual event came, there was a core group of believers who took the poison willingly but then when the affects took place, so many of the other followers balked at it. It became less of a mass suicide and more of a mass murder situation with the poison being forced on many people, a third of whom were minors. It was a terribly tragic situation.
In addition, the idea of the pyramid of followers, die hards and the leader/inner circle is a real power structure theory used by governments, cult de-programers and academics to explain the leadership and control found in a cult. It was developed after other cult raids and deaths. I think the episode was mainly based off Jonestown and the Branch Davidians.

Yes. I like how CM gets inspiration from real life events. A lot of Jonestown parallels. Thanks for the info
