I love your story. I too was a young man in my 20’s wishing I could purchase an M-1 Garand, but monthly bills of a young family would not allow. It wasn’t until I was a grandfather that I could afford to buy one from the CMP. Of all the vids I’ve seen about the M-1 Garand yours is the best. Thanks.

I have a French Mas49/56 from them that will be getting a review in the future. Im not normally a "review" guy, there are far better people out their for that, but my experience with Royal Tiger has been... as expected... which is to say: disappointing. Need more ammo before I do shoot the gun, but long story short: dont buy a gun because of the picture and the paragraph below it when it comes to RTI LOL!!!!

@@boltforward3611 No kidding. I've only purchased two things from RTI on the same order. I got an 1886 Lebel and a modified MG mag for a G43. The lebel is by far the ugliest rifle in my collection but I got a good bore so it doesn't key hole. The modified MG mag doesn't feed well in my G43 ( as was expected ) but it looks cool.

So beautiful story and rifle. My Dad depended his life on this rifle in the last days of WWII and Korea. I have an Italian Breda and a WWII Winchester M1 Garand. An infantryman will trust his rifle to save his life. My Dad's M1 Garand saved himself in combat knowing how to use it. I have true respect for his rifle.

Beautiful rifle, I got two service grade rifles last year, a 1943 springfield and a 1955 HR, both in great condition. The CMP is awesome.

I snagged one at a gun show from a Garand dealer, his rifles came from the CMP and mine is lovely. It is service grade and in a brand new stock with CMP marking but damn, nothing like a Springfield M1.
Not to be on a soapbox opera but I did not plan to purchase a Garand, however the one I bought was made in April of 1944. Last year in April my father passed away. I took the Mfg date as a sign from him and so I bought the rifle without hesitation.
      Thanks Dad.

What an amazing story I feel the biggest issue as to why so many people avoid the CMP is the paperwork process. Let’s just say a lot of people’s Kryptonite is paperwork. Really enjoyed the story of your dad and instructor. Subbed by the way, have a good day.

Great video! I have a 1953 H&R M1 Garand that is absolutely beautiful, bought it for 1k a few years ago. I’ve only shot it a couple times, but it’s something every American should own if they can.

You could sell it at gunshow for 5k these days! H&R Rifles used to not receive a lot of praise since they werent used in WW2, but they are probably the most gorgeous and cleanest of the M1s out there!

That is a great story and a great video. I have owned a m1 since I was 15 years old. Over the years I have sold and traded to get better ones. My last one I got from the cmp is a 1954 H&R. I asked the good folks at the cmp for a 50s era rifle and they indulged me. I wanted one from that era because my dad who I also lost to cancer served in the coast guard then. Thanks for the video. Great rifle.

The CMP is a gem and its a shame those guys dont get more recognition from the gun community. They preserve history while also engaging their audience. I know of others who have gone to the CMP and asked for help finding rifles, asking what markings meant, asking for gauges and those guys do it all... You wont get that kind of service from big box gun store. ALSO! Thank you for your Father's service --> Veterans helped pay for my college degree.

Awesome story. I've got a rebuilt one on mail order (new stock/new barrel), but I had a strong desire to make the 6hr drive to the North Store to pick up something with a little more character. This makes me want to do that even more.

Cool story. I bought my h&r reciever 1954 from gun broker than sourced every part h&r. Long story short i had it reparked and new linseed oil stock. Thing is a tack driver. Spent more money in doing all that but love the satisfaction of reserecting an old m1.

Restoring an M1 is like fixing up an old truck (you know... back when a Truck wasnt a toy!) --> always great to see these old girls being brought back to their full glory

Its funny you mentioned RTI! LOL I have made a few purchases from there for specific rifles and other accessories. But even as much as they sell their M1s for i have done a lot of looking and research and RTI's prices are not crazy compared so some, while compared to the CMP program ,then of course they are over prices. I have wanted an M1 since i was a kid and im now almost 60yrs old and can buy one ,finally. If i could get past my wife, hehe because its too much cash at once. I am working my arse off these days for a decent pay check and I can buy most firearms i want, pretty quickly and easily. But if its over a grand i gotta hit the bank ,and that involves the wife. She dont care for my hobby so i cant just buy on a whim! LOL Wish i could, because id have an M1 LOL

The reason why the person don’t want to sell you the first one M1 Garand ! Because that is the original world war ll M1 Garand . The one you have now is copy not the original part . but still a good shooting rifle. but it is a history of winning war rifle 👍 good taste !

So I dont think you understand what happened lol --> The first rifle I picked up off the rack was an H&R rifle with a beachwood stock (replacement) and it was mostly mix-matched. The rifle you see here in the video is leaps-n-bounds nicer. Thank you for watching though.
