Riverside Fly Shop - Sipsey Fork River

Join Molly and I as we paddle Riverside Fly Shop's 11-mile trip down the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River. It's open year round and is a flat, easy paddle down a beautiful and remote stretch of river.

Nice video. I’m a big fan of the sipsey, paddled and fished it many times. A little unsolicited advice from an old paddler-learn the “J” stroke. It will change your paddling life in the bow OR stern.😄👍🏼

The Sipsey is fantastic, for sure! Yes, I've been working on the J stroke...a lot! I now have an Old Town Saranac 160 and it handles MUCH better! :-D

Man what a relaxing trip. It is always fun when you can sit back and relax floating down the river but nobody around and enjoying the Wild animals. That was cool seeing the deer swimming across the river. That is awesome you got a good partner to take trips with on the river. The time wasn't bad either for the mileage you did. I'm glad you had fun man.

What kind of canoe you have there?
I drive over this river every day. Work in jasper and live in Cullman. Fixing to buy my first kayak or canoe. Trying to figure out which one to buy!? I like the Old Town 119 canoe but not sure if maybe I should go with a sit on top? Want to use it for overnight river trips and hunting and fishing as well..

Hey Mark- I apologize for the delay. This video was a Rogue River 14ft Canoe. I now have an Old Town Saranac 16ft that I like much better. Old Town makes great boats, for sure. Most any canoe will give you more capacity and space than a kayak. But it just depends on how (and where) you want to use it. I have several videos from this exact trip in different boats including one a few weeks ago in a sit-inside kayak.
