I certainly do! I was 10 years old when this song came out. There were such good artists in the 1970's. The Statler Brothers, Oak Ridge Boys, John Denver, Conway Twitty, Glenn Campbell, Barbara Mandrel, just to name a few. What they call country music now I dont consider country. My car stereo stays on a station that only plays 1960's to 1980's country music.
Vicki Hackeman Baker, one of the original voices of Dave & Sugar, was my sister. Sadly, she passed away last month on July 25, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. I thought all her fans should know. I was her caregiver for the past 7 years.
Pamela, I am just now seeing this (on the day Dave Rowland passed away, no less!), and I am truly sorry for your loss. I was a fan of this group back in the day.
@@gregtreadway3142 Know whats crazy? I knew he was in my family. But today i just now realized he was Dave from Dave and Sugar. I never knew it. We werent close or anything, but we used to spend holidays together when i was younger. Also, i found out that his big break was when he opened and toured with Elvis. Can't believe my family never told me this.
I just read that Vicki Hackeman died last summer and Dave Rowland died just a couple of months ago. I had not heard or read it until now. Rest In Peace both Vicki and Dave. We loved your music and your harmonies were fantastic!
WOW memories come pouring back to this beautiful song by Dave and Sugar. A beautiful 🌹 Song that I used to listen to in my youth and I Still Love it today. Thanks for sharing this Wonderful Song
I still have their original vinyl albums. Still playing them. For me represents a precious time in my youth. Great group. Love the music & the memories.
Country Music's Abba! Those harmonies are amazing. Saw that Dave sadly has recently passed away. Miss those years but listening to groups like this sure helps to bring back some good memories
I was a kid when this was out. Never heard of them. Recently found their album at Goodwill for $.59 and never looked back. From one Dave to another, RIP brotha. Be assured we won’t let it die, ever.
I was in my early 20s when this song was on the radio. Oh what memories come back when i hear it. 70s music, regardless of the genre will never go away.
Pamela, very sorry to hear of Vicki's passing and offer you my sincerest condolences! I saw Dave and Sugar when they toured with Charlie Pride in the 70's and came to Adelaide South Australia! I've never seen a better harmonious group in all my life, they were simply amazing and I knew then that they would branch out on their own and reach stardom! I still sing most of their songs at karaoke entertaining our senior citizens ! I don't know if Vicki was your daughter or sister but she was a beautiful talented singer and the group basically fell apart when Vicki and Jackie left ! What a crying shame ,Vicki is in heaven and a better place now but I'll endeavour to keep singing and keeping her memories alive here in Adelaide ! I never got to meet her but I wish I did ! I'm getting on in my age (72 years young) but singing keeps me going , no family or relatives and I was an only child ! All my best and sincerest wishes and Kindest Regards!❤
Dave Rowland sang with the Stamps quartet in the mid 70s and actually performed with Elvis. It looks like Dave took a little of The King's stage mannerisms with him and made them his own.
Marty Duncan Yes he did look a little "Elvis-ish" there. Not only in hair and sideburns but the little moves he was making. It's funny, Elvis borrowed things from others and others borrowed from Elvis! Interesting!
Their harmony was unrivaled.👑 I always thought they were underrated. Dave once said that they had no smoke machines or special effects.....just great county-pop music that stood on it's own merit. How true! They pulled it off well.👏👍 I remember Rosie O'Grady's Emporium at Church Street Station, downtown Orlando, where their performance was videoed (not this pic). What a fun, eclectic place with so much variety! 5 music showrooms with different music genres, a midway, restaurants, shops, etc. By the 1990s, Disney and Universal developed their own entertainment districts, drawing people away from Church Street Station. By 2001, many of the businesses were failing or closed. The property was foreclosed in 2009.🙁 I have fond memories of Church Street Station and Dave and Sugar. 💞 I prefer the authentic, eclectic mix of Church Street vs slick, staged, canned Disney/Universal. Thanks for keeping us informed. ❤
I went to the Jamey Johnson concert last night. It was a great Show! He did a good version of this song. I always liked it...Made me wonder how many there knew who sang it originally?
I just discovered how great they were LIVE while watching an old Hee Haw last night backed by the Charlie Pride band. I always liked them but assumed they were just another group that could only nail it in the studio. I'm impressed !
I thought one of those girls was from Soddy Daisy Tenn., just outside of Chattanooga. Would love to see this group join up with the legends of country music.
I tend to like the studio recordings better also. But it doesn't hurt that the 2 Sugars shown here are the original ones (Jackie Frantz & Vicki Hackeman).
+Bobby Buser I agree Bobby. I think the original Dave and Sugar should reunite once to sing for a Christian fund raising say to send Christian kids to camp, or raise money for a church bus, or money for missionaries in Christian outreach. Alabama did the same thing for a fire truck in their home town. Although it was not a Christian fire truck.
+William Snapp It's unlikely ever to happen, but if it did, Vicki & esp. Jackie would need to memorize the hits of their successors, as Jackie was around for only one album. Her successor Sue sang on most of the group's hits, & Vicki's successor Melissa (Etta) was on some of them.
+Collins Crapo I agree but stranger things have happened before. Someone who knows someone who knows someone may just read what we are talking about here and WHO KNOWS. Anyway the IDEA is out there floating around and it may take on a life of it's own. Hope so. When you say Sue was on most of the groups hits are you talking No.1's top 10 top 40 because I don't think after Jackie they had any No.1's (although I may be wrong here).
+Collins Crapo I don't know about that Collins. The original Dave and Sugar could do their hits and maybe a few of the later hits and then straight into Gospel for the rest of the show. They would not have to be a perfect sound from the past only get close and I think the listeners would forgive them particularly if the show was interlaced with each singer giving a brief history of where they have been since their beginning. It would make it some what of a down home kind of thing.
William Snapp "Golden Tears" (Vicki's last recording with Dave & Sue) may have reached #1, or if not, another Top 10 pos'n. And if you look at the Anthology CD, only 5 of 23 tracks feature Jackie; Sue is on the rest.
Ha ha ha! LOLLL. Herb Tarlek! When he asked "Jennifer" Lonnie Anderson's character...."do you have anything for me?" She replied...."Just the mail Herb....that's all I'll ever have for you".
With the deaths of Vicki & Dave in July & Nov 2018 respectively, Jackie is the only one left among the trio shown in this vid (though later Sugars also survive).
From what little of her FB profile is visible to the public, she used to attend Palm Beach State College, which hints that she either lives in Florida or at least has lived there in the past.
I am sorry to hear about your sister. Your sister and Jackie really got Dave off on the charts. He could not replace your sister and Jackie. What he could not replace was more than singing. It was a certain stage presence that he lost with your sister and Jackie and he never got it back. I wish your sister well.
I'm really confused as to who is who on this video. Lot's of conflicting comments. I'll go at it at a different angle. Who is the one with the pronounced teeth on the left in this video? And her hair is longer than the one on the right. Please someone straighten me out. I loved this group back in the day and this song was my favorite by them.
Anyone else miss the good ole days of country music???
I certainly do! I was 10 years old when this song came out. There were such good artists in the 1970's. Hell yesssss, I wish I could turn back the clock in so many different ways 😪
🙋♀️😢
you mean when the singers could actually sing??
Brings Back Really Really Good Memories
The '70s was the greatest decade of country music...fantastic.
My thought too.

I haven't heard this song in years but it popped into my head this morning.
My dad used to sing "door is always open " from this song
Just goes to show ya, singers THIS good do not need "auto-tune" on their recording session! What a great band they were...
i dont find this good at all...........sad......
Dave passed away earlier this week. I went to high school with him. RIP Dave
I loved Dave and Sugar then and love coming to You Tube and enjoying their music now.
These blended together so beautifully so sad good music isn't recorded anymore 💔
There's still lots of great music. You just have to look a bit harder to find it.

Miss you David my cousin we all love you from the family
I really enjoyed their music! I think I have a 45 record of them! Loved their music!!
We loved this trio. They did well in the UK, Snape Maltings featured them with a fantastic show in the 70s. Just brilliant singers and harmonies!
God Bless. You both, Honey.
I saw them when I was a young teen, and got Sue Powell's autograph. She was mesmerizing.

REAL country.
Yes
Those ladies have great voices 💗
So many greats got their start backing the great Charlie Pride on stage. Dave Rolwand and Sugar, Ronnie Millsap, and even Gary Stewart.
THIS is country music!

Great harmony wow 👍
Loved this group of singers
Dave reminds me of Marlowe Tackett. Another good singer that surrounded himself with the ladies.
Saw them first when they sang and toured with CHARLEY PRIDE.Great singers and Charley helped them get started
One of my favourite songs, although Dickey Lee’s is my go to version ❤️
Excellent live performance of their big hit .

Thank God!
They need to thank Waylon Jennings for writing that song
I know one girl is Vicki Hackerman. Is the other girl Jackie Frantz
Yes, She is.
This is the original lineup: Jackie Frantz, Dave Rowland and Vicki Hagemann. There were several Sugars between 1976 and '82.
+RJ McAllister Hackeman, actually. After leaving the group, Vicki married; her current last name is Baker.
+Collins Crapo Hey Collins do you know where Vicki is today? Or the general area?
