    Aren't you suppose to lossen the cable adjusting nut so the handbrake cable allows the caliper parking brake arms to rest back on the starting point ?

    I noticed with my car before doing the diy that when the ebrake was all the way down there would still be a slight drag on the rotors from the brake pads. I tried loosening the nut a bit to see if it would let off with the ebrake being down but no change. Then I loosened it as much as possible without the nut falling off (to the point where the ebrake has very little resistance when pulling) and the brakes continued to have the slight drag. Also my brake pads have almost no wear so I'm assuming it would have to be somewhat of a factor in this. Any help or recommendations would be much appreciated, I'm a big fan of this channel!

      I’m currently having the same issue. Did you ever figure out what it was?

    Do the clutch interlock bypass next, I have a feeling as these cars start to age more and more people are going to end up with random no start conditions, and this is usually the culprit.

      +Rolando Tillit Its on my list. I currently don't have a garage and won't for another couple weeks so it will be a while 😕

    "until the parking brakes drag slightly when the rear wheels are turned" what do you mean when you say "parking brakes drag slightly"?

    Sorry for stupid comment, but if I jack up the rear , wouldn't car roll forward?

    My parking brake is fully applied between 9-13 clicks, but it has zero tension on it before the first few clicks. When it is down all the way, it can flop it up and down with zero resistance. Does that need adjusting?

    • @DIYGuysvideo
      @DIYGuysvideo  7 років тому

      +solitarycheese Your parking brake should add some resistance to the rear wheels even with one click. Jack up the rear of the car and test it out by spinning the wheels yourself.

    How did you measure 44 lb of force through feel?

    • @DIYGuysvideo
      @DIYGuysvideo  7 років тому

      +hypno159753 Estimation really :)
      In all honesty my car had started rolling backwards after releasing the car back down to the ground in the past so I knew the parking brake could be a bit tighter for my own safety.

      A 5 gallon jug of water is just about the perfect weight to practice pulling 'up' on. Lift one a few times and you should get a pretty good feel for the force needed to lift the water and/or parking brake handle.

    what happens if you over tighten the parking brake? I am at 13 notches exact.. but I didn't raise the car up to check the drag on the wheel?

    • @DIYGuysvideo
      @DIYGuysvideo  6 років тому

      If you overtighten it, it will drag the wheel all the time which is no good.

    • @jamshaidmasood
      @jamshaidmasood 6 років тому

      Thanks for the response. I jacked my car up to adjust per your instructions. However even after adjusting it to what I would consider less than ideal slack (still at 13 clicks to lock), my wheels drag (a tiny bit )when the handbrake is complete disengaged. I can only tun the wheel freely a few inches before they stop moving. Someone said it is because the differential causes resistance.

    • @DIYGuysvideo
      @DIYGuysvideo  6 років тому

      There will be a noticeable difference between drag and no drag. With some force you should be able to turn the wheels a bit even with the drivetrain resistance.

      Thanks for the suggestion. Likely won't happen though given that I daily my AP1 with a soft top in sunny CA. The CR has no soft top so :(
