DISCLAIMER* it's best to begin this process with the car in neutral, when applying grease into the transmission linkage try, if the linkage is moved such that any gear would be engaged, to reset the linkage to the neutral position or you'll have a hard time trying to reinstall the spring and shifter assembly as it only sits in one position
Just wanted to give you a huge thanks for all of your amazing DIY videos. Because of you I've been able to do all of the maintenance on my wife's S2K confidently and successfully.
Urea grease isn't used here because its high temp. It has the correct NLGI viscosity, and it won't harm the plastic. Other greases may work as a substitute, but make sure it meets the requirements. Anyone that works on their own S2000 should have Urea grease on hand. So using tbat you'll know it meets the requirements. Yes, I know this is two years old, posting for those that find this diy in the future.
Thanks for all your videos! The last one with really helped with my loose power socket. Could you make a video on replacing the rectifier in the alternator? I haven't been able to find a video on how to do that job.
+alex santiago You're welcome Alex! I just sold my spare alternator unfortunately. If you send me an alternator I would be willing to film the job for you.
Great video as always, very detailed and easy to follow. Please keep making videos on your awesome CR! my 2000 ap1 has 90k miles, so I might be doing this very very soon. Much appreciated. thanks you.
When I did this in my car I also replaced the two plastic pieces that attach to the bottom of the shifter as well as the spring. Only a few bucks more and it probably helped the shifter feel.
+Ryan Murray I have seen that mentioned in the forums and in other videos but I'm skeptical how much it really helps so I didn't include it. I can see the spring helping tho.
while having at all apart I would recommend replacing the $30 worth of parts this spring into plastic pieces. its well work the little $$ for a great feel. you can get the OE parts on eBay or Amazon
I am skeptical replacing the plastics makes a difference. It would have to be tested on its own instead of with the regrease. When I’ve taken out the shifter the plastics have all looked perfectly fine.
hey I have a question and in need of help, I removed the three bolts but the shifter refuses to come out. I tried everything and I can’t get it out. Any suggestions?
You mentioned a few times you dont see much benefit in changing the plastic parts for new ones. But the spring might you wrote. What does the spring do? How does it improve shifting? Just curious thnx.
Great video, Soviet. So many things to grease on s2k. How about greasing steering torque sensor, slave cylinder ball and clutch fork fingers for future videos? (Brush holder/rectifier of aternator too) Thanks!!!
+Gi Yoon haven't heard of greasing the steering torque sensor but definitely will do a video on the slave cylinder ball and try to do the clutch form. I'll have to look into the brush holder
I did my yesterday and it help a little bit. The most exciting part was being able to clean the center counsel because it looks like someone spilled coffee along time ago.
Ive seen videos where they not only regrease, but also replace all the "white plastic" and the spring with new parts. Is it worth it? I ordered it just incase, but might just regrease only as statedin video
+Steven Lu I have a set of them sitting in my garage. Before my next set of tires i. Will isn't all them since I'll need an alignment. I'm not sure if it will improve handling but it will ensure my alignment doesn't change which is helpful.
+Jeff Collop I don't. I have been contemplating it considering that the tracks here can get over 100F. However I am a pretty data driven person and I'd love to get some oil temp readings first so I can be sure that it is necessary.
I would really apprechiate a how-to on oil temp sensor and gauge :) But I'd like to keep my S as stock as possible, any way to get temp reading without a gauge? Via smartphone maybe? :P
+niikon I just a quick search and I don't see any wireless sensors. I'm guessing you might be able to plump it into an aftermarket ECU and the use a smartphone app from there possibly?
I don’t see the point in replacing parts that are not broken. I think most of the folks that blindly replace all the plastics are just feeling the benefits of the new grease. With the grease you can clearly see where it has dried up and is no longer doing its job.

+Jael Nava good point Jael! I'll pin this when I get home.
Just wanted to give you a huge thanks for all of your amazing DIY videos. Because of you I've been able to do all of the maintenance on my wife's S2K confidently and successfully.
Thanks Jack! That made my day. I won't disappoint you!
I AM SO HAPPY I DISCOVERED THIS CHANNEL!
+John Stork 😍
Glad to see a high miles CR. I know it's a rare and limited car, but it was made to be driven and glad to see a CR owner enjoying their car :)
Thank you. I will continue to use and ab(use) it :)
Well done video. i am a 1951 model and my S2000 is a 2003 and after watching this, i believe i could do this!
Haha haha! Happy to help
Regrease completed! Thanks for your fantastic video walk-throughs! I would be lost without you 🤗
Greatly appreciate these videos! I recently purchased a 2004 S2000 and I've used several of them to get it up to snuff. Thank you!
+Jeff Collop You're welcome!
Great video but for anyone asking, most standard grease will work just fine. Its not a very high temperature area.
Lithium grease?
@@yungsnoop47 yea i guess that'll do fine. I used moly i think.

DIYGuys I might be able to do that, what is your contact email
+alex santiago PMed
Thanks for the videos very helpful picked up my S2000 in January of this year
+Neil Bascherini You're welcome!

+Daniel Farooqi You're welcome. Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see a video on ofcourse.

I can imagine the spring making a difference though.

Hey do you know where to buy an extra bushing and spring ? Just to replace the old ones fully.
Going to do my starter next weekend it would be great if you did a vid on that!
+Teresa E I have to admit that would be a good DIY but honestly that is not something I would want to do for fun right now 😕
Did this help your notchy shifting? billman said he never did this to any of his s2000.
Great, this is on my list to do real soon! thanks

Me again :) Did you feel a difference afterwards? Where would you recommend getting the grease at? Thank you as always.
I generally don’t feel much of a difference when I do this to be honest. Get the grease from Honda, Amazon is easiest
I did my yesterday and it help a little bit. The most exciting part was being able to clean the center counsel because it looks like someone spilled coffee along time ago.

any input on how long the grease lasts as far as time vs mileage? my AP1 is 15 years old now but only has 30k miles and has been garage kept.
Unfortunately no. I feel like mileage is a bigger factor just due to the heat the transmission produces.
When you change the shifter plastic do you have to have it in neutral or in gear
Not sure if it matters.
Great video man. Have you ever consider getting a Rigid Collar for the car? Do you think it will improve the handling?
+Steven Lu I have a set of them sitting in my garage. Before my next set of tires i. Will isn't all them since I'll need an alignment. I'm not sure if it will improve handling but it will ensure my alignment doesn't change which is helpful.
Did you buy that grease from Honda? Also do I need to replace the spring? Great video by the way.
Yes purchase the grease from Honda. No need to replace the spring.
If i smash that subscribe button will you do a diy video on removing and replacing that button? 😊
Good video by the way always informative ✌️
Darren Walsh smh lol
do you also have to grease the hole where the bushing goes into or just upper hole where the bigger plastic piece make contact with?
I grease everything that makes contact with the plastic to be safe.
Thanks for this man ill be doing it if i have more time
+John Pascual Takes less than an hour! No excuses!
You can also put the shifter into reverse and it will stay in that position while you put the three bolts in.
+MrRevto9k Oh interesting. Is it still easy to get the bottom bolt in? I move the shifter around to make it easy to access every bolt.
Do you have an Oil Cooler install video? That is my next mod for tracking the S2000 in the Texas heat safely as possible.
+Jeff Collop I don't. I have been contemplating it considering that the tracks here can get over 100F. However I am a pretty data driven person and I'd love to get some oil temp readings first so I can be sure that it is necessary.
+DIYGuys I'm actually thinking of getting a sandwich plate adapter.
I would really apprechiate a how-to on oil temp sensor and gauge :)

thank you. another great video!
+themikepotter You're welcome!
Genuine question: What exactly is the benefit of doing this?
Go back and LISTEN to the first few seconds of the video.
I am going to do this but I will be using white lithium grease instead for my Honda Civic 1992
This is perfect!
How often should you re-grease?
Not sure I would do it by feel but I can’t imagine it more often that 50-100k Miles.
the best
+Ray vs. the World 😍
Interesting, this is the only guide that doesn’t have you replace the spring or all the plastics.
I don’t see the point in replacing parts that are not broken. I think most of the folks that blindly replace all the plastics are just feeling the benefits of the new grease. With the grease you can clearly see where it has dried up and is no longer doing its job.
I did that but now 1st Gear is Reverse and 3rd Gear is 5th
See if you installed the shifter backwards.
Smash like, but no slap?! I am calling the police
