Strictly speaking the Trabant was not a failure as it was the only car available in East Germany for regular people. It was terrible but not a failure. Aging wheels did a great series of videos restoring one imported into the US

The problem with the "Coolest" cooler is primarily that the guy screwed over the people who financed him through Kickstarter, and most of them never received their cooler or a reimbursement. The secondary issue is that none of the attachments are very good quality, and the wheels are poorly designed. It's one of those "seems" cool but isn't IRL.

If Blockbuster has purchased Netflix, we’d all be watching Blockbuster Original Films and Series.

The Spruce Goose was designed to be a heavy transport plane for use in WWII, but the war ended before it was finished.

Cuecat, Blockbuster of course, Virtual Boy, and the freaking mask, lol. Virtual Boy systems have come a long way since the system officially shut down. There is a vibrant Homebrew community with a download cart to use. I actually have two of the systems and use them every now and then. They are pretty rare these days. Radio Shack probably had millions of Cuecat's lying around they were trying to give me one every time I bought something from 1999-2000.

I play a lot of emulated games but VB is one I've skipped. Although I should check out Jack Bros. because I like SMT games

16:00 My parents bought one of these, there was a rental store near our house
To play the video, you inserted the disc and cover into the player, it would grab the disc and spit out the cover!

I remember trying that different colored ketchup growing up.... I was maybe 9 or so and I even couldnt bring myself to have purple or green ketchup. Tasted fine but I couldnt do it after i saw the color.

We had "Lawn Darts" (I guessing late 60s early 70s) and it was fun. However, I see it's danger if used improperly.

I like that some of these are just straight up failures or the vision was failed to be seen by the masses. A few of these are really cool and would absolutely work today some of these are literally limited to people being small minded, lack of creativity or a want for change. Most shit on here was abysmal but some of it had no right to fail people are just small-minded.

I'd have added Daikatana and Duke Nukem Forever to that museum's collection of failed videogames instead of No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077. The latter ones have been receiving a lot of updates to fix what was wrong with them and they're actually pretty decent now. The former were also hyped to death, but took ages to be developed and never really lived up to the expectations.

They could have an entire stupid design museum based solely on sneakers. Theres some in the stores right now that would make it in.

You hardly seem like the one anyone would wanna take fashion advice from anyway, Sister Grimace 😂
Some of us like to wear other shoes and clothes that aren't just athletic wear and church clothes. Get a grip. Get them New Balances on and run your mile to the church and shut up 😂

I don't get some of these "failures" - The Trabant or Trabbi was not a failure, it was the only car in the DDR (east Germany) and the waiting list for it was years long. There were a lot of them sold. When the border opened up they drove all the way to Italy with these cars, they might have been terrible, but there are still (!!) enthusiasts to this day and I would not consider them a failure.
Same with blockbuster video - video rentals are obsolete now, but back in the 90s they were HUGE. So no failure here! If something is obsolete, it doesn't make it a failure. We could call every obsolete product and technology a failure then.

  • @malcolmdrake6137

Most of these weren't "failures". Lacking funds for pursuit, or pursuing a different path is not the definition of failure.

Trabants were in production for over 40 years and sold 3.5 million.

I laughed when I saw the Trabi as a ‘failed’ product in this museum 😂 there’s still a lot of them being driven around Eastern Europe - mostly as tourist attractions - but you don’t see anything like the number of cars from the same period that were built elsewhere in the World. Seems pretty successful to exist alongside these other products.
That said it’s an awesome video, thanks Ray.

    • @RayOutThere

Are Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky actually failures though? Both games have made a pretty decent turnaround.

Never knew this museum exsisted. Guess at some point i have another reason to go to NY. Tried crystal pepsi when re released it for a short time, i liked it but it wasn't anything super special imo. Tried new coke when coke did a promo with stranger things, thought it was pretty good.

6:00 Colgate should have made a toothpaste meal-replacement paste instead. I bet that would have done well with those who workout and stuff. Imagine a strawberry paste with whey protein and creatine and it would be really convenient too, because you could throw the paste into your workout bag. They could also have a special edition one with fluoride, which will lower your IQ but will make your teeth clean while you're working out.
