- how much aluminium from melting down 654 aluminium cans in one pour.
smelted all of the cans I've saved over 2 years this is the last 650 odd so last can smelting video for a while as I've ran out and wont melt more till I have a few thousand again.
thanks for watching
hiya Shane, could never get sick of watching you mate,I think you foundry what you built from scratch is outstanding.like your videos as you show your frustrations at times and that's what's so real about your uploads. i look forward to any content you produce and will be using some of y
had phone call and didn't fish comment.but I will use some of your ideas.im messing with waste motor oil for my generator and have had a centrifuge made off a metal spring freind of mine.have built it and I'm in the testing process just perfecting it now.ibwill be having a couple more made soon and I'd like to send you one so I'll be in touch.keep up the good work, take care mate
Thanks for watching. It's nice to know people find it entertaining makes it worthwhile. Take it easy
Love the little pouring spout very neat. Congrats on 1K subs 😀
It dose have some drawbacks, from atmospheric contact and cooling to contamination from the metal its self. Thanks btw it was a nice new years gift making 1k
@@smithbuilt It does mean you owe us a video on making the mini oil burner tho 🤣
Most definitely! 🤪
Thanks mate for the video. I feel like I have to say mate I'd love to see more content of yours but by the way your breathing on this vid you need to look after yourself better my man. Good to see your using a respirator in this one. Keep it up and look after your health brother.
Yeah I always forget to take care of myself. I've been trying to keep sets of the needed ppe by each machine or tooling areas. Thanks for watching 😁
It fairly swallows those cans up, it's a hungry beast!
It worked well, I have a new design in mind for when I have to rebuild it, for now i need to reline it with actual refractory as the perlite and cement has worn badly
@@smithbuilt I purchased all the stuff quite a few years back as I was going to build a furnace for making knives.
I was going to make refractory brick myself as to purchase them is expensive.
The Sodium Silicate - Water Glass making ingredients I have sitting in my shed but I got a bit concerned because of the risks associated with Lye, I read up on the risks lol and with the children and pets running around at the time I didn't bother.
Even that will degrade over time too though.
I read in one of the comments (I usually read most comments) That you might go with graphite for a crucible.
Yep I'm thinking could I make a graphite insert like the steel one I have. I'll find out eventually but for now its belt grinder build time again... once I finish the video on my new toy.... big new toy
@@smithbuilt 👍
i think i can smell roast beef
Hmm roast beef with Yorkshire puddings, num num
I use a lot of cans do I want me to save them and give them to Erin and Jordon
Yeah sure. I'll melt them down. Erin is ment to be saving hers too
that's a big crucible , how many liter of aluminum can you do with it ? and i am wondering if you do copper, or even iron with this foundry ? or maybe not hot enough for it, can you process the slag again ? or maybe again foundry is not hot enough to burn all of things ?
It holds around 15 litres I believe. Yeah I can melt copper, brass and bronze, the burner will melt iron but the crucible is only steel. I will eventually make a graphite type crucible insert but for now it's fine. The slag I'm producing looks to be a very low aluminium content but I'm saving it all to have a try at a later date. Thanks for watching
