You have one of the best Channels.. You show everything at the perfect pace, speed and makes it so freaking easy to follow you and learn.. Woww. I'm pressed..
Your enthusiasm when teaching what this DAW can do is so genuine that it's infectious. With every tutorial, I'm further convinced that Studio One is the right choice for me. The price, plus the depth of the application coupled with the unwavering support provided (yeah, Gregor's pretty 😎 cool, as well), makes this entire experience in recording a winner.
Dear Joe Gilder you are always there when I need your help. Since S1V2 I have finally got my Studio Still on S1V4 and using everything I can you taught me. Thank YOU !
After scores of views on other channels - you are 'hands-down' - the best. You said, "Time is one of the biggest currencies we have...". I love your articulate, informative and to the point approach. If I miss a concept - I just rewind. I purchased your mixing lessons at Home Studio Corner - anticipating the same. Peace
Thanks again for another great video! I'm working my way through this course/series and learning SO MUCH!! Studio One is my first DAW beyond Garageband. Wow. These features are blowing my mind. Love love love. Sometimes I still have to stop and google some lingo (ie: normalize, render, etc) but I'm getting it and so grateful. Feeling empowered. Thanks so much for all of this!! Now I'm back to work! :)
'Now, imagine doing that with any other system....' Well, that was me in the past, mixing-exporting-importing, repeating. After watching this video I decided to use the Project Page. Talk about simplifying the process! And the Digital Release is icing on the cake. Thanks, Studio One, and thank you, Joe!
So, after watching Joe's numerous tutorials I think I have it: Put an effect on a track while you're recording so that it sounds just right. Then add an effect to the track while you're mixing; then send that track to a bus and add an effect to the buss; then add an effect to the master output; send that to the project page and add an effect on that one song; and then add an effect of the entire mix. Damn, was I wrong the first five times...
This was a tour of the very basic functions.. Would love to see an advanced demo of mastering in S1. E.g. how do those three plugin sections work together. And the volume sliders? How do they work? How to we integrate something like Izotope Tonal Balance 2 or Insight? What does the 2Buss look like in your songs before mastering? What plugins are best to leave for mastering only, even though it's really tempting to put them on 2Buss to hear what it would sound like with a chain of master plug ins (e.g. avoiding the trap of 'fixing in the 2Buss with mastering plugins). Thanks.
Super dope super informative video Joe. I would love to see a version where you show examples of a final mastering chain done in the project page. Keep up the good works. 💯
I have a problem. My song sounds complete in the mix, but playing it on the project page does not hear the first few seconds of the bass line, how can I fix that?
Thank you Joe! I do not have studio one pro yet. In fact I do not even have a desktop DAW yet. My studio is based on a Tascam DA#2 and a AKAI MPC Live. However, I'll be in the market for one soon. The tutorials help me get prepped and get up to speed.with what to expect and how to manage and use studio one..
This is great, thanks for your teaching expertise. I am a new user, on my 3rd week and i am amazed at all the features this tool has. I am steadily learning. quick question, I followed your video, yet why can't you hear the sound on the project page, yet the song page will play back the song just fine?
Thanks, Joe! Sounds a bit harsh, but the last example is real world use case for the Project feature, which I never used because of the lack of automaton both faders and plugins. You may ask why I'm so specific. Well, it's a question of mindset. You should not have to go back and forth between mixing and mastering. Do the mixing first and use mastering techniques afterwards, if you have to matter your own songs. And opening up a song to control some guitars with a de-esser in the bridge and turning it off or controlling the threshold afterwards should not require opening up 10 songs to master an LP.
@@presonus Currently looking at switching to Studio 1 for all my mixing and mastering work. I'm really enjoying the Project page but the lack of automation is the only thing currently in my way. Glad to know you guys are working on it - Cheers Adrian
I know this post is a couple of years old, but I've still a valid question. My projects are almost 100% VST libraries. Some are quite large - gigs in size, and take a while just to load the song. If I add these songs to a project, and it sees they've been modified, it will want to update them - but will it open the song and automatically start to render the new wave files or does it know to wait until all libraries are fully loaded before it renders. Thanks
I'm looking forward to the time when S1 feels as you describe helps me stay in the music, because so far it feels like it is 'the other stuff' to me going through learning curve. Thanks for the videos Joe
I got a question for anyone reading this... My tracks are mixed and "mastered" in the songpage. Would it make sense to "undo" this before inserting them in a project page (removing some plug-ins) or just insert them "as is" and fix ik with the amateur mastering on top?
Okay I have been using the project for songs in the same album. While the mix and reviewing process is good, there are some features that don't work well or is missing to allow me to export the master from here directly. First is the fade in and out envelope, you should be able to draw this like using the volume envelope. When I try using the volume envelope for this purpose it does not preview with the fade so it is not useful. Also, this is where Ozone UI is really great you define the start and fade in and the end and fade out and it exports it as so. The next feature is to be able to specify some amount of silence at the beginning of the track. For example, it is common to have 200ms of silence before the track starts so it avoids the fade in on streaming services that makes the beginning of the song sound different sometimes. So for the "Digital Release" option there should be input for a specified amount of silence to prepend to the track. So it would be nice to have these features, with out it the work flow is: 1 Export all the tracks from the project. Put the tracks into a tool like Ozone or some wave editor to edit the ends in a precise manor. Then use yet another tool or the same wave editor if it has the feature to prepend silence. This project page is a great idea, it would be truly useful if one can simply export the master tracks from here.
Joe, thank you so much for producing these videos. I have been using Studio One Pro for over 8 years. I recently upgrade to Version 5. So far, I've only watched a few of these sessions but I love them. Already, i have learned a bunch. Yes, the Project Page is definitely, Super cool and a huge time save. Nice delivery. I intend to watch the whole series. Glad you joined Presonus. The best!

Nice tutorial on using the Project Folder in Studio One... What is your process however in using the Project Page to Save various mixes of the same song? Different Mixes, Edits etc...
Hi Joe, once more a great vidéo ! Your explanations and your cander (about what you don't use) are great ! I own a summing amp (Dangerous D-Box+). Could you explain how to work with it in studio one : change the rendering output to a mix track connected to the sum out, be able to send the actual recorded (not the stereo input 1 pair) files to project with ease and so on ? I think people like me dont need to know how to connect it and make it work but rather the Studio One specific workflow. Thanks a lot ! :-)
He Joe, Great Video and Great Feature. Decided to try it today and I feel this workflow could be very useful however I did encounter one difficulty. I can not seem to be able to use a reference track and route it to a listen bus (the way I can in the mix). This is causing me to disable the limiter plugin every time I want to compare a commercial reference. Have I missed something here ? Sorry if it's a stupid question :-) Cheers Dave
Thanks for the video. Is there a way to see, from within a song, whether I have already added that song to a project? I am trying to avoid losing track of where I might have put something earlier without having to open all projects that just might contain that song I'm working on. It would be helpful if, when I come to add the song to a project, it had a tick next to the project it was already in, or any of the projects it's in.
When I make changes to mg song, I don't get a "Red Wrench" or update message in the Projecg Page. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have Studio One 5 Pro. Ty ahead of time.
I find no way to open my song and then go to the project for that song in studio one 4. If I make changes and say add to project it puts in as a new project. If I choose update master file for this song it may update it i don’t know. the project page never opens.
Great job Joe, and I am a new convert from Cubase. Used to listen to your podcast with another chap, Home recording some....a few years ago so remember you from then :-)
hey Joe, after updating the song and mastering file @8:16, the waveform on the Project Page looks like the changes got updated, but does the updated file play back correctly? Whenever I update the mastering file, the waveform looks like it was updated, but the changes are not reflected in the audio when I play the track. It's really noticeable when making a big change to the song file such as lowering the master fader significantly or removing the limiter as you did. I and others have noticed this problem since 4.6. Several months ago, PreSonus said they are aware of the bug and would fix it in a future release. We're now on 5.0 and the problem still persists. How can you export a project as one song? Is it even possible? I may create a 5-song backing track (medley) for a live performance but I usually put it together inside the song page in order to save it as a single MP3. I'd prefer to do it in the project page.
Joe I've been asking studio one to do a video showing how to split files. for example I'm using backing tracks for practice and also record stuff for other ppl. I don't want to have those mixed on one list. how to do like second list ?
@@presonus Sorry , is there a way to seperate files on a main list when I open my studio ? so I could divide them by current work: practice live and record ? It would be nice to do sub folders or something ...
It would be nice if when you click on a song title on the list, and the cursor would be at the beginning of the song, Also- using a shortcut key is a fast way to do the update while in the song page-😃
Man Joe you really are a life saver. I just have one question: Let’s say I’m trying to add a song that’s over 5 minutes, how exactly do I get around that process to make it happen? It keeps shortening one track I have that’s 30 sec. over the 5 minute mark.
You can add songs as long as you want. You must be making a mistake when adding it. Are you adding it from the Song Page? if so, make sure the Start/End markers are in the right place.
Hey Joe, I'm having awful issues with the project page. Instead of updating files, the project page is playing me the same old mix every time, not any of the mixes that I updated. Any solutions, it's killing my creativity and buzz
What if we mastered a few songs, starting with the PROJECT page, and THEN wanted to send THOSE to a new SONG PAGE, so we can make EDITS to the MASTERS. seems VERY inconvenient to not allow us to do some easy edits in the project page! (a good example is wanting to create a before and after for your web site demo purposes). recently i wanted to import the original unmastered song and create a NEW SONG that goes back and forth between the two. (pls don't tell me i have to start from song mode, i didn't make these songs, and that's not what i wanna do.)
Im trying to figure out how to drag the files from left to right to fit the wav file. I have alot of space "around" each file that I want to shorten to fit if that makes since. For the life of me I can't get it lol. I can get it to drag over and squash the file or make some of it dissapear but thats it

i love how you spam the save shortcut. I do the same :)
I totally broke the Cmd button on my laptop doing this. - Joe Gilder
Do you know how to put the artist info in the project page so it doesn’t save as (Unknown Artist)?
Great Video Joe!
Thanks Tony - Joe Gilder
How can you export a project as one song? Is it even possible? I may create a 5-song backing track (medley) for a live performance but I usually put it together inside the song page in order to save it as a single MP3. I'd prefer to do it in the project page.
Joe I've been asking studio one to do a video showing how to split files. for example I'm using backing tracks for practice and also record stuff for other ppl. I don't want to have those mixed on one list. how to do like second list ?
Sorry I don't understand your question. - Joe Gilder
Thank you Joe, I love it!!
Man Joe you really are a life saver. I just have one question:
Let’s say I’m trying to add a song that’s over 5 minutes, how exactly do I get around that process to make it happen? It keeps shortening one track I have that’s 30 sec. over the 5 minute mark.
You can add songs as long as you want. You must be making a mistake when adding it. Are you adding it from the Song Page? if so, make sure the Start/End markers are in the right place.
Hey Joe, I'm having awful issues with the project page. Instead of updating files, the project page is playing me the same old mix every time, not any of the mixes that I updated. Any solutions, it's killing my creativity and buzz
when i open up the project page theres nothing there??/
Thank you Joe
What if we mastered a few songs, starting with the PROJECT page, and THEN wanted to send THOSE to a new SONG PAGE, so we can make EDITS to the MASTERS. seems VERY inconvenient to not allow us to do some easy edits in the project page! (a good example is wanting to create a before and after for your web site demo purposes). recently i wanted to import the original unmastered song and create a NEW SONG that goes back and forth between the two. (pls don't tell me i have to start from song mode, i didn't make these songs, and that's not what i wanna do.)
Does this no longer work? following your directions, i'm left with a 32 second track in the project.
How is adding a limiter in the project page any different than adding a limiter on the Main track on the song page?
It's not different, but the Project page lets you master multiple songs at once.
Im trying to figure out how to drag the files from left to right to fit the wav file. I have alot of space "around" each file that I want to shorten to fit if that makes since. For the life of me I can't get it lol. I can get it to drag over and squash the file or make some of it dissapear but thats it
Great video. Quick question: what's the drum pad looking device you have on the top left corner of your StudioLive console?
Can mastering be accomplished with S1 Artist?
Good video, very clear and yep, it helped...thanks.
