Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 чер 2019
- In this video the Dude and the owner of ReptileKages.com, Zach talk about our unique line of PVC caging, how to assemble them and what expectations you should have when utilizing these Kages. This cage is a 4' x 2' x 2' kage with an extended 7" substrate lip to accommodate burrowing animals such as Blue Tongue Skinks, Ball Pythons and young dwarf monitors. The Dude is pleased to finally offer Kages that are an acceptable size for your large herps!

You're making reptile keeping much easier and safe; I thank you for that :)
Great video on a great product. It would've been cheaper for me to buy this Kage from the start. Big box store brands ran me well over 600 dollars between light fixtures and a cage not even close to this size.
I own this Kage and can say that Zach is customer focused on providing a quality product. The engineering on this Kage is excellent. I have about 150 lbs of substrate in mine and it holds up with no issue.
Highly recommend for those that are looking at the long term solution over the lifetime of their pets well being.
What a great review thank you!
Thank you. I didn’t understand the instructions and someone from Kages directed me to this video. I should be able to figure it out with a visual guide:)
I went with a different company due to pricing. That being said Kages looks like a great product. Most people don't realize what it cost in materials, tools and equipment to make these. Very happy with the 4X2X2 PVC enclosure I decided to go with and it was $200 less than the one in this video.
Thanks for sharing!
Cant believe after randomly watching terrarium videos Id stumble across this guy. Swimming in a "sea of envy" my dude. You're officially livin the dream. -Ruby
Could it be, the infamous Zach Ruby from TFP?! I hope you and your family are doing great man, its been years!
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter the one and only dude. Glad to see the company is growing and you're doing well!
That is awesome dude. You inspired to me to get Pug, I remember Lilly vividly. lol - Thank you for your support and take care brother!
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter may they snort together forever. You too man.
Nice, it really ties the room together.
It sure does Dude, it sure does.
Great combo video!! Two really great companies, I appreciate his backstory that lead to helping others.
Thank you : )
@Josh - These enclosures are good, but it would be a lot better if you and Zach figured out a better light setup with UVB and grow light fixtures pre-installed. I don't really like the modification for the grow light option. The light does not look that secure and you need to drill holes in the enclosure to make it work. Pre-drilled holes with more secure fixtures would be much better. When working with lighting, I would rather see a more solid solution than this. Other than that it seems pretty good. Some more natural wood exterior finishes would be a nice touch, but not a deal breaker. The lights are kind of a deal breaker for me though.
That is something I will pass to Zach and start brainstorming.
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter Thanks Josh, that's pretty cool that you are taking the time to listen to feedback so you can continue to improve the product! Right on
I agree I use 36" florescent fixture in my setups and if there were a couple of retention bars to mount a florescent fixture to the inside would be great.
Just put mine together and it looks great! Can’t wait to get it set up and ready for my ball python!
Thats what we LOVE to hear. Thank you for your support

I want to see one with radiant heat panels in it for a bearded dragon
I have been a carpenter/ furniture maker for over 20 years and use pvc material often. I can give an absolute guarantee that with all the weight added to these cages they will not hold up over the long run with the way they are screwed together. I'm going to guess that if you put moderate sideways pressure on the cage it would just start pulling threads and become wobbly. I would bet that if I pushed sideways on cage with some strength I could probably collapse the entire cage in seconds. The cam locks that said "unnamed swedish company" uses would definitely benefit the cages structurally. Or an extra small piece of material in all corners to act as a mounting rail for screws would help as well. Not to mention that beardies have sharp nails. They will scratch the PVC. Leaving tiny little bits of PVC in the cage potentially causing harm to your little friend if injested.
In my opinion he should adjust the base design if necessary to allow add on purchases to make the tank bigger, for when the pet gets bigger. such as a thin strip with smaller screws to change the direction of how you screw it together, so you could purchase one more and add on items and connect multiple together. could connect two side by side or front to back or both.
You should mention that to him. He is always looking for ways to grow and improve!
Well shit, he told me how he did it.. et hes got a warning label on the enclosures now🤣🤣
I would definitely silicone all the edges because they do leak.
Silicone doesnt stick to PVC.
@@cyberlocc yes it does its a pvc foam board and there are specific types of silicone that works with plastic
@@aiyannajeremschuk3041 The Silicon that sticks to PVC is harsh chemicals which is what your supposed to Not use lol.

I’m a machinist/programmer, I think I’m gonna just try and machine the panels and build one on my own. Looks simple enough.

Hey man I’m super nervous about about drilling custom holes into my new Kages enclosure that’s coming.(for an Arcadia PROT5) any tips on not cracking the top?
This kage looks amazing! Can it be used for an adult ball python? Is there a way to add a heat mat?
Absolutely! I do recommend something slightly larger and taller which we do have available. I don't recommend using a UTH with this type of enclosure. The over head heat source would be better. The manufacturer of these enclosures have cages to put over the heat source to prevent burns.
Just bought some springtails from ur booth at Repticon and seeded them in my tank hope they do well
We do too! Keep us posted ; )
Looks great!
Appreciate that ;)
so if u buy a pvc enclosure how do you get the uvb light on there arcadia 18"+
I have an arcadia fixture t5 and a kages enclosure on the way. I'm thinking I should screw the brackets for it right before the top is attached to the back so I can put the cord through before it is attached. Is this right?
Can you do a Chinese water dragon bio active? And when will you be shipping out isopods and springtails?
We are working on more videos! Isopods should be available soon! Around Fall as it's too hot to ship here in Houston.
Would love to see a video of a ball python setup in one of those 4x2x2. Considering picking one up.
We will be doing one very shortly!
Interesting video on these huge cages,
-off subject are you going to do a Pygmy chameleon & Eurydactylode setup ?
Hey Bob! More vids will be coming soon with the expanded property :)
The only problem I have with this is cleaning the glass tracks it’s a big problem I have bought one of these and if you plan on using substrate you will be cleaning the tracks every time you slide the panel open you will have to clean the tracks
Try making a bioactive setup for a mossy tree frog. That would be interesting
I have a few paludariums setup up with a 100% water base. Thriving - Ill do an update video here at some point on them (Cinnamons)
The Bio Dude Josh Halter yay!
What size screws .5” ?? I don’t have this one I got a different company
Guy looks like Everlast
Do these come in different sizes?
Paulette Perez they sure do!
Thank you.
When will you go international shipping?! I'm in Canada and am patiently waiting for you to go international!
Working on it! We are applying for exportation certificates as I type this.
I want to know how the belly heat works in there.
Planning to upgrade my Ball python to this terrarium with as a Bio enclosure. I plan to do UTH and was wondering what you would recommend for light setup? Planning to be making many future purchases from your website for all our needs.
ua-cam.com/video/cOVwC4FKAdQ/v-deo.html check this out!
That's the perfect size for my ball python. My only concern is will it stay below 75% humidity if I put the Tera Firma in there?
You need to monitor the humidity and provide dry out periods if you have too much water.
Can this size be used for an adult blue tongue skink
I’m confused how do you attach the lights? I am not a big fan of putting the lights inside.
You should make videos weekly because I’ll be waiting a month like damn when is a new video gonna come out 😂😂
Im working on it!
What light features would you recommend for my beardy?
Question: wouldn't the black walls absorb the heat too much and get too hot? Most reptile enclosures I see that are like that have white walls.
thats why there are vents this is also will not over heat thats i recmend adding mor of thoose over head heat things used for the lamps so mre heat escapes
Hey man! I’m super interested in one of these (maybe a bigger one) for my ball python. I want to use insulating foam to be able to carve out a background. Would that be possible on these pvc sheets?
I’m also wondering How I would add grow lights to the enclosure, for my plants.
what're the dimensions of the doors, top piece (the one with the logo), and the substrate lip? I'm building an enclosure and I'm lost on what size materials to buy for a 4x2x2
Would the 20 gallon leopard gecko kit work in a 15 gallon tank or should I just switch to a 20 gallon?
Use the 20.
thanks
If doing for a python, how would you heat? I have an mat heater and ceramic heaters currently. Also would love to see these modified to hold biodude lights for the plants....
We have recessed bottoms for UTH - I will try and get some pictures up for you!
Do you need two lights for one skink
Hey hey! for the bioactive set up theres typically three light sources needed, LED for the plants, UVB for the reptiles health and then a heating element- this can be a bulb such as a light bulb or a CHE , ceramic heat emitter, heat panel. etc. Skinks are a species that requires a higher basking area and UVB so they would need the UVB and heating element for basking. it is dependent on the species what specific light they require. Hope this helps!
Which pvc enclosure was this? And how do I get the 7 in substrate board?
Hey man new subscriber I love ur stuff I was just wondering if the vents make it difficult to keep it humid for reptiles requiring more humidity than others
PVC is amazing for humidity retention. I added more vents so that way the Kages have the ability to "breathe" so to speak.
Hi! So I was curious if this is water proof? I want to make this into a semi-paludarium for my FWC. I would want a water lake area similar to your Palludarium video. Is that type of this possible with this cage? So basically is it good for standing water XD Thank you!
What size cage would I nead for a manegrove monitor it slightly large but thin it spends it time in water treas and land
You need a room or the largest he offers. Id still recommend a room lol
Have you ever done a natural habitat for tailess whip scorpions. I've tried to find a pic of their natural home but can't find one
It's hard to find. There are quite a few tailess whips, do you happen to have the scientific name? Our Customer Care Specialist Amber is well versed in arachnids and scorpions. You're welcome to reach her at customercare@thebiodude.com She would be happy to help with a naturalistic set up for your scorpion.
hey what would you recommend for a praying mantis terrarium? what I'm using for the adult is 1x1x2 feet I think
Hi Cuddy Jake. I would go with our Terra Aranea. It's designed for all inverts. You're welcome to view it here: www.thebiodude.com/pages/search-results-page?q=aranea
We also have kit for Tarantulas that would be well suited for your Mantid:
www.thebiodude.com/collections/tarantula-bioactive-kit
Hey josh I know this is off topic but how deep are the layers in an 18x18x24 from the bottom of the drainage layer to the top with leaf litter if you use a Terra flora bioacitve kit? like total depth from top to bottom?
For Flora, since it is much more humid with more water being passed through the substrate, about 2.5-3" for both.
Roughly 5-6" unless you want a deeper substrate layer for large root systems on your plants.
Will this be available for ball pythons too?
There are many sizes available on thebiodude.com
what heat bulb wattage will you use?
Can you please help me the internet and UA-cam won't give me a straight answer I have a 18 x 18 x 24 EXO Terraria and two anoles, what size ubv light should I get? Please help.
What species of Anoles? Most likely an Arcadia 6% UVB with heat.

I can never find any pvc panels to buy.
it is very hard to find, the good stuff anyway!
When by chance will your springtails and isopod be back in stock or are they gone?
Springtails are available now! Isopods not for a while until it cooooooooools...Its so hot right now!
Would this be a good size for a boa?
Are the polycarbonate doors more rigid than the plexiglass doors in your original Kages video?
Deb Schramm they are a significant improvement
How many uploads my dude
I added the springtails I bought from you guys and added leaf litter and did nothing wrong and im pretty sure they are all dead I have not seen a single one since I put them in there feel totally ripped off like I just bout 15$ 2oz dirt
Hey man, I am sure you will you see some activity soon. Keep in mind, especially when you have deep substrate, the springs will want to stay hidden, especially if it is a large enclosure it will take time for them to get seeded and established. For microfauna, it is their entire instinctual niche to hide- Trust me, I wouldn't be as successful as I am if I ripped people off.
Is there ever going to be a bio kit bigger then 75 gallon. I will be in the market for a 125 gallon kit as soon as I figure out what I want :D
Yes! They are in the works with the new Kage line The Dude will be offering. If you ever have questions on what you need, you're always welcome to r4each out to our customer care team. Customercare@thebiodude.com or give us a call (717)305-0684
Can you use a head pad for pvc enclosures
no
The light fixtures seem like the weakest part of these enclosures. I feel like that should be wired together. Plus you obviously can't have exposed ceramic heat lamps, so they should be covered somehow.
Kages does offer the covers etc. You want two different plugs in the event you need two different heat sources at different times.
Can you stack these cages?
Hey there, while some of them can be stacked, the weight they have inside along with the weight of the enclosure itself can hurt the integrity of the enclosures below. Just be extremely careful! -the dude abides!
Any update on your ackie enclosure.
Its coming soon!
Picture of instructions
Which of your soils would you recommend for a 55gallon bioactive tank for a ball python
I would recommend the Terra Firma for a BP
The Bio Dude Josh Halter also on one of those PVC tanks would you put a heat mat?
I wouldn't. I recommend an over head heat source as it will be easier to regulate their warm area.
I have a 72x24x18 tank so how much of your product will I need
Depends on what you are doing it for. Go ahead and contact us so we can help you : )
How does the heatmat work on those
you cant use heat mats on this
Which enclosure size would you recommend for a ackie monitor?
Huge! For an adult, at least a 6 x 2 x 2 with at least 12" of substrate.
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter thanks....i am considering one...i knew 4x2x2 was way too small for a adult so...thanks!!
So you’re telling me I’m paying a bunch extra for that 2$ light fixture ? I just looked at your options and I can’t believe it adds like 30$ to the price for that cheap light
Papa Smurf please tell me where I can find quality UL certified ceramic heat fixtures - I’ll buy them all if they are only $2.00!!! Manufacturing them in China costs almost 7.65 a unit
I think the kage is really cool, but for 649.99 I can get a 6 foot aquarium at PetSmart with a stand. Only 18 inches of depth but depending on the resident I don't know if I can justify this one. Looks really cool though.
Yeah, its the quality of the components, craftsmanship and being made 100% in the USA (No Cheap China here) with these Kages, hence the price point : )
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter copy that. Yeah I'll definitely give it another look. Didn't know about all that. Thanks
Isopods and springtails for the beardies?
Id recommend Powder Blue Isopods and Arid Springs. Collembola and Folsomia will not work you need like a large silver type of springtail.
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter bias asking whether you'll have them in stock on your website soon. Been waiting for months. Unless you can give me another source where I could obtain them so I can just get the bio kit from you
We will not have the bugs until Fall as it's too hot to ship here. You can get started with your bioactive enclosure. All of our kits come with The BioShot which does everything the bugs do on a microscopic level. You can add the bugs at anytime if you like, but they are not a necessity when utilizing the BioShot.
Where have the videos gone dude? :)
Working on them! I have a new one uploading today but I have been busy getting ready for my move etc. After the move Il have my own studio!
Im wondering how to start a business similar to yours
Hard work, dedication, risk and love for what you do
No truer words have been spoken😢
There is a lot more cheaper options out there
Could you tell me a few options to look into? Companies that sell 4x2x2
@@1976mcfarlane animal plastic is one of them
That price tag though holy fck that is an excessive price, nice looking enclosures but for that price they should have a better front access door setup and come with silicone. Though i like how they are slightly insulated due to the PVC board. PVC board is not exactly cheap at .5" thickness. rather use wood at that point with the added weight.
Be nice if you had white ones

These enclosures are extremely pricey for non-glass enclosures that require assembly.
Nice clean look, but given the absolute barebones simplicity and what those materials cost at Lowes, this is very expensive. Nothing even to stop pets from getting burned by the bulbs. That doesn't work for me. Dang. I don't think partnering with Kages was a great idea... he's way overpriced for what he's doing.
thats why you buy safty cage for the bulbs no enlsure can perset reptiles form getting burned its not there job there job is to bulid the cage
400 bucks and no uvb set up
Aj Capone then you didn’t watch the video because we used an Arcadia bulb
Sorry but that enclosure is too expensive at $405.00. I will stick with a 75 gallon aquarium.
That's literally a fish tank though so I don't think you can compare. And then being able to support someone you're learning from makes sense.
@@MrGarciaJr I bought from him several times. Also About to set up a new 75 gallon tanks for breeding pair of painted agamas so he will get more money
Really not digging that you have to watch your critter through the tiny little slot window in the front. A definite pass for me.
I just spent 700 on this cage and I'm pretty bummed to see there's that the panels are not recessed to fit with each other like APC.... that means its relying on screw strength. hmmmm. may need to cancel. that's disappointing.
