    Something else I didn’t mention in the video, the customer support was an absolute joke. Getting the car into service was a nightmare on an app that wouldn’t let me submit all the issues. Followed by an hour wait to drop off the car since there’s only 1 human at the service center. Also no loaners, a $50/day Uber credit is all that’s offered while the car is there for issues from the factory.
    You spend $150,000 for a car and get worse customer service than a $25k Toyota.
    Again I think Tesla is a great company and the cars are pretty clever. But they’re not ready for the $100k+ market in my opinion 🙃

    Great vid. Some things I want to correct. All Teslas come with autopilot for free, which is adaptive cruise control. Full self driving is the $12,000 software. The safety score can’t kick you out of the beta it can only accept you in, the requirement is 90. Only way for you to get kicked out is for you to be on your phone or not touch the wheel for 30secs-1min on 6 different occasions.

      That would be the same Audi company responsible for sudden acceleration and causing deaths and injuries and whom never took responsibility for their faulty idle control unit. Fun fact. I had the Audi 5 cylinder 2.2 liter engine in my VW Quantum. I experienced sudden acceleration in which the car tried to force me into a brick wall, and then tried to drive me through an intersection. In both cases I quickly moved the gear into neutral and then shut down the car. The mechanic at VW acknowledged it as a recall on the idle control unit. But the company never accepted blame. Ergo it’s tough for some of us to wish to patronize Audi.

    Just spent 10 days with a 2023 Model S on a 14 hour road trip. This was my first longer experience with a Tesla other than test drives. I’ve driven all kinds of cars from normal cars to McLaren’s and Lamborghini’s…and I was not sure what to expect road tripping in an EV. Range anxiety went away pretty quickly and stopping for 15 or 20 min a few times along the way was not a big deal, and actually enjoyable. The autopilot was phenomenal. The only gripe was that once I got to the destination the closest supercharger was 30 min away. If I was able to charge at the place I was staying that would have been much easier. All that said, I took this road trip to help me decide whether to buy my own, and I will 100% be buying my own plaid in the near future.
    I think the value you get for a 90k plaid is unmatched. Wickedly fast. Amazing tech, and just a lot of fun.

Honda would fire the entire manufacturing line if their $25K Civics have these basic rudimentary fit and finish issues. And I see many commenters saying "mine if fine" but they cannot deny the number of "mine is not fine" buyers out there. For the thousands of Nobel and PhD genius Tesla hires, maybe they should hire some good manufacturing people. I love my Model S despite some minor flaws. I came from an Audi to my Model S and the build quality and material quality is lower. However, my Model S doesn't rattle and maybe since my version is a 2020, i don't experience the yoke issues nor missing turning signals. My model has the older interior which after almost a decade of production, has a little better fit and finish. Also, one KEY cog in my perspective, i bought my Model S used... 35k miles, practically brand new... but half the price of new. Evaluating my car as a 55k car drastically changes your expectations. Great video quality as always Joe! Nice job.
    Don’t really understand the complaints regarding value. Joe is totally ok to have his own opinion of course. I’m 24,000 miles in on my Plaid. The Porsche I have is definitely a better build quality. That said, for $140,000 it’s faster than everything on the road, drives itself, has a full entertainment suite UA-cam, Disney, Netflix. Has great range, etc… I just drove to LA Friday and back Sunday and my passengers couldn’t shut up about it being the best road-tripping car they’ve ever been in. Literally never had an issue road-tripping. Bay Area to LA, one stop at a supercharger for lunch or dinner and by the time you are done eating, you’re car is ready to go.
    Definitely agree that the brakes should be stronger.
    Loved my McLaren 600lt and my current 911, but the Plaid is such an amazing value in my eyes.
    Saying the ford lanekeeping system is in the same hemisphere as autopilot is painfully wrong. Really? Come on man. autopilot takes exits, predicts collisions, can handle stop signs, red lights, etc… I’ve driven my buddy’s f150 platinum many times and the tech is just not in the same hemisphere.
    Anyways… not trying to convince anyone that Joe made a bad decision. He should love the car he buys and it’s clearly not for him. S class def has better build quality and luxury. But it drinks gas, doesn’t drive itself, is slow by comparison, has far less entertainment features, a much worse infotainment system in general, less storage space. The EQS is, of course, a joke.
    If you value speed, technology, safety, and entertainment over luxury and build quality, the Tesla is a great value.

    Current price for a model S with round steering wheel in any color is $89,990. The yoke is now an extra cost option. The long range model S is now $74,990. I paid $60k for my Y and it has basically every feature of the S Plaid, except is a bit slower. Like a lot of people have said, how often am I really going to use the 0-60 speed that beyond the 4.0sec 0-60 in my Y? The 3/Y are absolutely worth it and will continue buying them as long as the price doesn't keep going up. The S/X aren't on the radar.

    Fair enough, sounds like you got a Friday build, it happens. Rattles and squeaks would drive me crazy. My experience has been very different. I got my Plaid at the end of August and the only car I’d realistically consider trading it in for is the Roadster if it comes out. There is one minor rattle with a plate under the movable display screen, barely hear it over the radio, I’m not in a great hurry to get it fixed. I think the yoke is fine, the only issue I have is I think the horn should be in the center. I have a house in Oregon, bought the Plaid there (no sales tax!) and I already drove it over 2,000 miles to my other house in San Antonio. I thought the Plaid offered a better driving experience than my diesel SUV that gets over 700 miles on a full tank. There were lots of superchargers along the route and I really didn’t need more than 20 minutes of charge to get me to the next supercharger. Autopilot makes a huge difference in a long drive. In the end it was $100 cheaper to drive the Plaid compared to my SUV which gets 31 mpg. The Plaid’s driver’s seat is very comfortable to me. It’s my daily driver and like you said the one pedal driving is great. Exterior build quality could be more precise in a few spots. I found no fault with the interior.

I can do mileage deprecation, that played a big role in me keeping the car, car also has free supercharging for life. My E60 is much better car, personally the basic things are what disappoint my in the Tesla ex. headlights, switchgear, dimming side view mirrors (this actually pisses me off the most, they are so bad). The suspension and braking is atrocious compared to my E60. IMO the only Tesla model someone should consider is Model Y, all of the engineering effort is being spent on that car and it shows. The single piece castings, make a huge difference in build quality. The pricing is still kinda wack, but it’ll come down fast next year as the Austin factory ramps production and EV tax credit. The flagship EV Sedan is the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, EV SUV is the BMW iX. BMW iX is arguably a better EV than the Taycan, they did an incredible job.

    I'm sorry that this car didn't work out for you. Aside from the car not living up to your expectations for the price point, it sounds like the car didn't fit your lifestyle. I regularly drive 160 - 200 miles in a given day and drop and pick up my 2 kids from school - my Model S Plaid has been perfect for that. I need storage space (to carry the kids' bikes, etc.) but don't like the high center of gravity of an SUV, so a sporty sedan is really the only daily driver that fits what I'm looking for. I've had a Lexus IS-F, Panamera GTS, Guilia Quadrifoglio, BMW M3 (F80) as daily drivers and the Model S Plaid has been my favorite. I had a Model 3 Performance prior to the Plaid and while I don't think the Plaid is worth the money over the Model 3 Performance (I don't think it is 2x as good), I think the Plaid is a much better car (faster, more range, nicer interior, roomier with a hatch, air suspension, more exclusive, nicer exterior with the 21" wheels, etc.) and I wouldn't go back to a Model 3 unless I needed to for financial reasons. For my commute, I can comfortably do a round trip without supercharging. I've only charged the Model S Plaid on a supercharger two times in the 11k miles that I've driven it whereas with the Model 3 Performance, I had to supercharge several times a week (the real world range on my Model S Plaid is 270 miles, it was 200 miles on my Model 3 Performance). With that being said, I don't consider the Model S Plaid to be a luxury car and recognize that I paid for technology, which really can't be compared in an apples to apples manner with an ICE vehicle. It is not a car that I've taken to cars and coffee or car meets as I don't see it as that type of car. However, I've commuted in my 911s and will take the Plaid for daily duty any day over them. I look forward to seeing your new car! I always look forward to your videos!

      This makes sense. I’m currently in a position where I own a Model 3 Performance and have a Model S Plaid with 19’s on order (EDD is currently 11/16 - 12/28). My Model 3 recently made involuntary contact with a deer at a high rate of speed and will be out of commission until at least January. However, I’ve been driving an Infiniti Q50S over the past week since I hit the deer, and I must say, it’s such a relief not having to worry about charging. when going to see my business partner, who lives about 75 miles away, I usually have to charge the 3 at least once at a supercharger and it sometimes feels like a real inconvenience. I went with the 19’s specifically for durability and range (I live in Maine, the roads suck and the winters are cold) hoping to avoid that supercharging stop. I’ve owned Tesla’s for the past 3 years. Anyway, I can go on, but the bottom line is, I’m very conflicted. Not sure if I want to cancel and go with a Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid.

    • @TheLifeofJoeLee
      @TheLifeofJoeLee Рік тому

      @@j.r.f8381 Sorry to hear about your Model 3. For what it is worth, my Model S Plaid has the 21" wheels and even with driving faster on the highway than I did with my Model 3 Performance (15 mph+ faster cruising speed), I'm getting 70 miles more real world range. The Model S Plaid encourages higher speed driving on the highway. For my 160 mile round trip commute, the Model S Plaid is perfect for me and is one of the few cars that I actually want to keep because there is nothing I want to replace it with (I have other cars for other purposes). With that being said, I'm a fan of the Panamera and the E-Hybrid variant and think you'd enjoy that as well. Are you ok with buying a used car? Pricing of used Model S Plaids sold by Tesla (and in general) have come down significantly in the past 2 months. If I were in the market now, I would go used and save some money. If you buy from Tesla, you get an extra year of warranty after the factory bumper to bumper warranty expires.

    • @j.r.f8381
      @j.r.f8381 Рік тому

      @@TheLifeofJoeLee thank you! It’s funny you mention purchasing used, as I was thinking about it today and saw one with the white interior/19” wheels which are my two non-negotiables. I thought about it briefly and quickly abandoned the idea, as it had 20K miles on it and was only about $15K less than my current configuration. I mean, it’s nice to save that money, but 20K miles is also 20K miles. And I really like the new taillights and headlights. My personal experience with Tesla covering anything under warranty is 0 for 2 right now so their warranty is meaningless to me as they have not stood behind it for me. It doesn’t help that my nearest service center in Massachusetts seems to be staffed by mostly really young kids (late teens/early 20’s). That wouldn’t be a problem if they were properly trained but it gives me the impression they’re all just winging it. Okay, despite all my grievances, I really do love Teslas. Similar to you, I have owned tons of cars and nothing really tops the Tesla. So many things about it are just easy and make sense. Ultimately, I do not think I will regret toughing it out with the Infiniti for the next few months and take delivery of a brand new MSP. For me, the other factor in owning a Tesla is autopilot. I never realize how much work it does until I have to drive the old fashioned way, especially for any significant distance. Again, Tesla making life easier. I am curious, though, what SOC to you usually arrive home at after your round trip commute? Also, have you noticed any uneven tread wear on the inside of the rear tires with the 21”s? Thanks in advance, you’re very helpful!

    • @TheLifeofJoeLee

      @@j.r.f8381 I too have found autopilot (I'm currently running FSD beta) to be very helpful, especially when I'm sleepy or distracted - it has allowed me to be more productive in my car without having to worry about being a risk to those around me. I also enjoy listening to music in Teslas more than any other car that I've owned. For my commute, I typically use 30% charge each way (80 miles) and lose 3 - 4% during the day. I leave the house with 90% charge and return about 12 - 13 hours later with around 26% charge, 23% if I drive to get lunch during the day. I drive pretty fast and don't mind that I'm using more energy to get to my destination faster. I drove in the pouring rain today which used more energy that usual and also did 30 miles of local driving with multiple stops after I had arrived at my office for a total of 190 miles. I started my day with 90% charge, got to the office with 56% charge, left the office (accounting for 30 miles of local driving and usual drain from sitting) with 45% charge and got home with 14% charge left (13 hours later).
