At 70 years of age, I can say that Muse is one of the best bands I have heard, and I have heard thousands. Their music, lyrics and performance hits my heart, soul and spirit like few others.
Only 15 here, yet i couldn't agree more.
Crazy how music can unite the different generations
Age 18, almost 19. I can agree that muse is definitely one of the best bands I ever heard in my life. They have made me feel all type of emotions. Sadness, happiness, trust, forgiveness.
They also have an astonishing variety in their repertoire of songs.
I am 50 and still adore their songs like 28 years ago 🎸📀
You took the words right out of my mouth….couldnt agree more. Muse are a universe of talent !
The 5/4 is hypnotizing.
it's like a descending repeating loop
You came from that video too?
@Dahlan Drinkwater The time signature, it means there are five beats in a measure.
@@taskeen777 how would they have came from the video, if the video was made 2 months ago, and the comment is from 5 years ago?
/nm
@Dahlan Drinkwater To further clarify on the other response given, most music is created in 4/4, meaning it's split into musical chunks with 4 beats that usually loops or continues a pattern. This however is 5/4, so there are five beats to each part. So, try this: for the beat of the song, count to 4 and see if it's off rythme.(which it will be). Then try again but to five.
Totally underrated song, honestly this is a piece of art :)
Yes it is, the meaning,...and the music, the latter is superbe!!

Totally underrated song. They use 5/4 time signature on instruments, but drums 4/4 time signature. As a fan, it seems to me this is the only Muse song with this rythm.
In general, I truly believe Muse is a such underrated band.
The music video and the lyrics have so much sense. That's so beautiful. The sequence at 03:11 shows very well the fact that we're destroying each other. This is surely one of my favorite music video from muse with Aftermath's.

@Grobo Slazly Sadly not many people notice Matt's genius at guitar, vocals and lyricism.
Well, the whole album is based on the book "1984" by George Orwell, which depicts a future dystopia...
Guess Orwell was just off by a few decades.
Love this song cause its basically one long buildup. Extremely gradual change of emphasis and volume until the very end. Theres a saying in musicals that you talk until the emotions get so strong you break into song, and when it gets even more so you break into dance. This song reminds me of that idea because it increases until the vocals intensify, and before the singer is screaming, it breaks into a breakdown and solo. Very good song
it's not just a music,it's reality

This song basically explains what every government in every country is doing. Corrupt, corrupt, corrupt, corrupt. While we're sleeping, they are living the life.
This video has done it justice as well. Great stuff!
Of course it has done justice as well. It was made bý a group of Portuguese youngs and we understand exactly the message of the music here. Portugal is rotten with corruption and social problems and the government only cares about the big companies and their friends, share holders and profit. That is why the vídeo has become amazing, because it shows a message too. (sorry if there is any error)
The problem is not the governments only but the people that voted for also!
you're so right! :)

5/4 time signature
+Stratcat For the most part, but the ending section is polymetric; the guitar and bass play in 5/4 (or more accurately, 5/8,) whilst the drums play in 4/4 or 4/8.
All i can say is that it sounds good :)
Stratcat Also, forgot to add, there are two bars of 6/8 in the guitar solo.
You'd be damn right to say so; all of the clever bits aside, this song is powerful. Seeing it played live is incredible.
+Stratcat it's 10/8 i would say!
5/7 actually ;)
Too bad we all agree about the meaning of this song (and the awesome video!), but we don't stand up against the powers. People want a revolution, but nobody starts it.
Revolution has already happened in many countries, but what after revolution ? More corruption and even more greed !
مصطفى الرويني
Thats true, unfortunately. If I look at Egypt and Syria, it doesn't look like something good comes out of a revolution. But then again, if you travel back in time to like 1700, there were all kind of revolutions going on and they all did something to chance the world. Hopefully one day we can do the same, and live in harmony and peach with eachother.
It's rather difficult when a social contract is in place so that people remain complacent to work under the yoke of the system by the rich. The haves will concede what the general have nots want to the margins, while the have nots fight amongst themselves.

1:53 thats the most important scene for me. All of these sad and suffering people come and voluntary hand over their limbs, for some less greedy people, so they get more money. Maybe because they are feared or they are used to it, that fears me alot. Good reference to many situations these days. Most people just voluntary bear the most stupid and unlogical laws and tax increases in a materialistic world, which harm them in the end, for just a few people which get so rich they could literally buy the whole world.

People have done things. USSR, Cuba, Vietnam. All of these revolutions have just killed on one 1% and installed another ruling class. Communism is impossible and stupid until we reach post-scarcity.
Because it isn't actually a good idea. To completely dismantle the class system you need to remove co-dependency. In anarchy, you can't rely on farmers to provide you with food. You can't rely on law enforcement to protect you. You can't rely on the military to protect you from foreign threats. You can't rely on construction workers to build the house you live in.
The process by which food makes it onto your plate is an incredibly complex one that isn't sustainable if you ONLY rely on trusting that people will do everything correctly and not be selfish. It is literally impossible to rid the world of selfish people, but governments at least MOSTLY nullify the effects of it.
So much truth, it's overwhelming.

+joao vitor Arruda that makes no sense.
+joao vitor Arruda are they supposed to eat the money?
no, its capitalism, do you know why companies use 3rd world children as labour? because there cheaper. capitalism was made to make the middle class richer through the exploitation of the poor. do you know why Africa has more resources than any other continent but is one of the poorest? because companies own thoughs resources, not the people or the state. 1st world people live off the exploitation of the 3rd. capitalism is to blame. capitalism is based on greed, all it is is fascism in decay, thats why the Nazi's and Mussolini did not fear capitalists, they embraced them, but what happened to communists and socialists? they were one of the many killed in the holocaust, allong with jews. and thoughs millionaires, lets talk about them, shall we? lets talk about how they got there money, they either A, inherited it, B, one the lottery, or C own a company, a company that gives its staff minimum wage and makes its products through the exploitation.
capitalism was doomed from the start, it has too many contradictions. the existence of private land and credit alone could topple it, thats why they can't last 5 mins without quantitative easing, and even that is only delaying the inevitable. why do you think the USA invaded Iraq? why do you think they killed 1m iraqis? oil, why did they need it though? they already had enough and were getting it cheaply? its simple, asset bubbles, the price of oil was getting too high, so if they mass killed people and took the oil, then they could get more, that way they could deflate oil prices and avoid a recession. and before you say "but Venezuela and the USSR show socialism doesn't work" no they dont, the USSR had a political collapse as Gorbachev was an idiot, and then that lead to an economic one, all my friends and relatives who lived in the USSR have told me that life was great until Gorbachev came into power. it was only when he started trying to change things that it started to suck. also read this.

sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes, im am dyslexic, hope you understand that.
not exactly, you have become one of its victims, the real victims of capitalism and imperialism are the 3rd world, though there are some victims in the 1st world (minimum wage ppl) but their not massively affected, if they were they would pick up a gun and start to fight against it in the form of revolution. capitalism can't exist without mass damage though, thus why the 3rd world is so exploited.

"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels…upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!" - Mario Savio
"To save face, how low can you go? Talk lotta game, but yet you don't know. Static on the way makes us all say whoa. The people on top push the people down low. Get down and obey every word.
